Description

Linings of amalgam electrolytic cells are known to be used in facilities for the electrolytic production of caustic alkali solutions using the amalgam process Parts that come into contact with the liquids and gases that occur in the process, lined with natural or synthetic rubber. Especially the hypochlorite, Salt solution containing hydrochloric acid and chlorate as well as the chlorine-containing gases take effect the rubber strongly, so that the linings are often repaired and renewed have to. This leads to a temporary shutdown of the facilities concerned, so that the economy of the lye production as a result of the repair costs and the generation failure is adversely affected. It has been found that this Can be avoided if the linings with at least one firmly adhering Film are covered against the liquids and in contact with it Is resistant to gases. Phenol-formaldehyde resins have proven particularly advantageous for the film or putty, water glass and putty from such and the like. In the simplest execution case the film is produced by the usual painting or spraying. But you can also thin foils made of the aforementioned resistant materials with the rubber of the Connect lining, e.g. B. by gluing, sintering, welding, etc. In each Case must be achieved that the film completely tight without Air pockets is connected to the rubber pad. It has been shown in technology that the according to the invention by a coating protected linings many times over have a longer shelf life; it even succeeds if it is repaired or renewed in good time of the film to virtually completely prevent destruction of the rubber coating in the long term.
