The invention relates to a waterproof covering for covering body parts against moisture or humidity penetrating into the passenger compartment from the outside, in particular for covering the inner metal surface of car doors, consisting of a cut-out adapted to the metal surface of the car door, which can be glued to the car door at its outer, peripheral edge.

Such water protection films are known in a wide variety of designs, with the differences between the various designs essentially relating to the type of bonding to the car door. It is known to attach adhesive-free water protection films to the edge of the door using adhesive tape. It is also known to apply adhesive to the edge of the door using a brush or similar and to press a water protection film onto this adhesive surface. In addition, the edges of water protection films were provided with a self-adhesive adhesive layer and covered with silicone paper to enable them to be stacked on top of each other during transport. Finally, it is known from DE-GM 78 04 040 to provide water protection films with a self-adhesive adhesive application on the edge on one side and an adhesive-repellent coating on the other. In all known designs, however, the films only have the function of water protection. Another disadvantage is that it is relatively difficult to ensure a precise fit with the thin waterproof films that are known to be used.

The invention is based on the object of creating a waterproof covering of the generic type which can be glued on in a convenient manner and which, in addition to the waterproofing, also provides sound insulation so that the passenger compartment is protected to a greater extent against engine noise, wind noise and the like.

To achieve this object, the invention provides that the waterproof cladding is a laminated layer consisting of a waterproof film and a plastic foam layer, and that the laminate cut is completely or almost completely compacted to solid plastic in the area of the edge to be glued.

The covering also has a relatively high inherent rigidity, which is why it is easy to handle and can be easily attached to the car door or similar when gluing. Finally, the compressed plastic layers have the advantage that they do not conduct water and thus prevent moisture from penetrating the uncompressed areas of the foam layer.

According to a special embodiment of the invention, the film can be provided with a self-adhesive adhesive layer on the compacted edges and with a release layer on the side of the plastic foam layer. The self-adhesive adhesive layer makes the installation of the waterproof clothing particularly easy. The release layer, in particular a silicone layer, nevertheless makes it possible to stack the films directly.

According to a further embodiment of the invention, the film can be provided with a thermo-activated adhesive layer on the compacted edges. The usual thermo-active adhesives are solid and non-adhesive at room temperature and only become sticky at temperatures between 90 and 160°C, especially at 110°C. Waterproof clothing provided with such thermo-active adhesive can therefore be cut to size very easily at room temperature.

compressed at their edges to be glued, stacked, transported and at the processing location, easily removed piece by piece, e.g. by machine, from the stack and placed on the body part or similar to be covered. Even if they slip within a stack, the cut pieces do not stick to one another. Thermal activation can be achieved either by means of a suitably heated pressure stamp or by irradiating the side of the waterproof clothing to be glued. After cooling down relatively quickly, the waterproof clothing adheres firmly to the body part or similar, so that in addition to the advantage of being easy to handle, perfect moisture protection and high noise insulation are also achieved.

In a further embodiment of the invention, a narrow, uncompressed foam strip can be left on the edge next to the compressed areas. This narrow strip is pressed together when the inner door panel is installed, but this does not lead to an overload of the installation elements and an accidental fall off of the door panel. If the bond between the door and the waterproof panel becomes leaky in individual places due to ageing, processing errors or the like, the circumferential, compressed foam strip provides additional sealing, which

The protective clothing 1 is a laminated material, which is made up of a plastic foam layer 7 and a water-impermeable film 8 laminated onto it, in particular a flame-laminated film. The film 8 of the protective clothing 1 reliably protects the passenger compartment of a vehicle from penetrating moisture or humidity; the plastic foam layer 7 ensures that driving noise is insulated. The plastic foam layer 7 is preferably provided on the circumferential outer edge 9 of the protective clothing 1 with an area 10 that is compressed almost to solid plastic, with the compression being carried out in the direction of the film 8 that is left flat. A self-adhesive adhesive layer is applied to the film 8 in the area of the edge 9, which enables the water-protection clothing 1 to be installed efficiently on the production line in just one single operation.

In the case of protruding mechanical parts 15 to be attached to the car door 3, e.g. ashtrays, the protective covering can be deformed into bulges or depressions 16, which can be implemented in a particularly simple manner if the plastic foam layer 7 is made of polyurethane.

In order to further increase the protection against the penetration of moisture, the plastic foam layer 7 according to Fig. 4 can also be provided on the edges 20 of recesses 4 with compacted areas 10, with an adhesive coating 11 and with a () release layer 12.

Fig. 5 shows a water protection covering 21 which is largely constructed identically to the embodiment according to Fig. 4. However, it is not provided with an adhesive or a dehesive layer in the area of its compacted edges 9, 20, so that it can be easily stacked and handled. In order to attach it, the inner metal surface 2 of a car door 3 must be provided with an appropriate adhesive, whereby the attachment of the water protection covering 21 is particularly simple due to its inherent rigidity.

The waterproof cladding 22 according to Fig. 6 has only a self-adhesive adhesive layer 11 in the area of its compacted edges 9, 20, but not a release layer. In order to enable stacking of such waterproof cladding 22, silicone masking paper can be placed in between in the usual way, but this is very uneconomical because extremely large amounts of waste are generated at the installation site. Due to the relatively high inherent rigidity of the waterproof cladding 22, it is sufficient to place very thin, silicone-coated plastic films in between, so that the waste problem is reduced.

The water protection lining 23 according to Fig. 7 has a thermo-activatable adhesive layer 24 in the area of its compacted edges 9, 20, whereby it can be easily stacked at room temperature and can be conveniently attached to a car door 3 by activating the adhesive layer 24.

ζ-. The water protection clothing 25 according to Fig. 8 is a laminated laminated material cut from a plastic foam layer 7 and a water-impermeable film 26 laminated thereon, which is thermally activated as a whole, so that the same advantages exist as in the embodiment according to Fig. 7.

Fig. 9 and 10 show a water protection clothing 27, which is a laminated sheet material cut from a plastic foam layer 28 and a water-impermeable film 29. The plastic foam layer 28 is provided on its outer edge 30 with an area 31 that is compressed almost to the point of solid plastic, to which an adhesive layer 32, e.g. a heat-activated adhesive, is assigned on the side of the film 29. The protective clothing 27 can thus be glued to a car door 33 in the manner already described. In the protective clothing 27, in addition to the compressed areas 31

In this state, the web 34 acts as a seal against drafts if the bonding of the cut-out 27 to the car door 33 is incomplete in certain places. In the remaining areas of the plastic foam layer 28 that are not to be compressed, the door panel 35 has a correspondingly adapted bulge 36.

The web 34 is interrupted by compacted zones 38 in the area of the mounting elements 37, which are indicated by dash-dotted lines, in order to facilitate the fastening of the door panel 35. Due to the mounting elements 37, there is no risk of the adhesive layer 32 coming off and therefore additional sealing is unnecessary.

The water protection cladding 27 can also have compressed areas 40 with uncompressed foam webs 41 on the edges in the area of inner recesses 3Θ in order to achieve reliable sealing against draughts here too.

Fig. 11 shows a water protection covering 42 which can be attached to a car door 43 with a large opening 44. The protective covering 42 consists of a plastic foam layer 45 with a laminated, water-impermeable film 46 and is completely or almost compacted to solid plastic in the area of the outer edge 47. can be pressed onto an adhesive layer 48 which is applied to the edge of the door-side recess 44. To facilitate assembly, the compacted edge 47 is set back slightly in the direction of the plastic mounting layer 45 compared to the surface of the film 48, so that the cut-out 42 can be attached with a precise fit by inserting it in the door-side recess 44.

Water-protective clothing according to claim 1, characterized in that the compacted edge (47) is set back from the surface of the film (46) in the direction of the plastic foam layer (45). 3. Water protection clothing according to claim 1, characterized in that the foam web (34) is interrupted by compacted zones (38) in the area of mounting elements (37) of the inner door panel (35). 4.
