Die bis jetzt bekannten Doppelbettcouches haben den Nachteil, daß sie bei der Verwendung als Betten vorerst im ganzen von der Stellwand abgerückt werden müssen. Außerdem haben die bekannten Doppelbettcouches zum Zwecke der Umwandlung in Betten zum Großteil komplizierte Schienen und Scharnierkonstruktionen, welche bereits nach kurzer Benutzungsdauer, teils durch Verbiegung oder Loslösen aus der Holzkonstruktion, die rasche Umwandlung zum Teil erschweren, wenn nicht gar unmöglich machen. Ihre Konstruktionen sind nicht stabil, so daß sie eine einwandfreie und sichere Liegemöglichkeit nicht bieten, im Verhältnis zu einem fest stehenden Bett. Der Raum für das notwendige Bettzeug war bisher zum Großteil unterhalb des Sitzrahmens der Couch untergebracht. Um den Bettraum benutzen zu können, war es nötig, den gesamten Sitzrahmen, meist einschließlich der Lehne, unter erheblichem Kraftaufwand hochzuheben.
