Description

These sensitizers are distinguished by a particularly steep drop in the sensitization curve after the longer waves. It has now been shown that dyes of this class are particularly suitable for this which contain the thiazoline ring on the other side of the polymethine chain. In addition to a very pronounced steep drop in the sensitization curve, these dyes also have good solubility in the photographic baths, so that the emulsion layers sensitized with such dyes do not have any troublesome colorations. Although some of the oxopseudocyanines known for optical sensitization show almost the same steep drop in the sensitization curve, they have the disadvantage of staining photographic layers in a disruptive manner. The new sensitizers, on the other hand, are considerably more soluble in water and can therefore be easily washed out of the photographic layers, in particular the photographic papers, for the sensitization of which they are preferably used. Disturbing coloring of the photographic material is therefore avoided. The following examples are given to illustrate the invention: Example I The dye from 1-ethyl-2-methyl-3-phenyl-6-chlorobenziimidazoliamethyl sulfate and ethylthiazolidine-2-methine-w-aldehyde sensitized from 45o to 533 mu with a maximum at 5Io m, u.
