Abstract

At a point (2) where the packaging material is doubled and forms the tubular package flaps where there is one of the two transverse sealing seams, a tubular package has a tab to aid in opening this transverse sealing seam. This tab may be formed by the end (7) of a fold (6) in the package material projecting from the package casing surface, the edge of a layer of the package material in the doubled region itself or an adhesive label (15) secured to this layer, whereby this doubled region (2) in the transverse sealing seam is advantageously wrapped with the label (15) over the end (18) of the package and the label (15) is secured to a region of the outer casing lying outside the doubled region (2) by a releasable adhesive or other seal within the area where it projects beyond the free edge of the doubled region (2) of the transverse sealing seam.
