Hierdurch wird erreicht, daß bei eingesetztem Gliederblock ein Teil der Heizgase aus dem Feuerraum in der üblichen Weise in die Züge der Seitenglieder übertritt, während der andere Teil die Heizkanäle des Gliederblockes durchzieht und erst am oberen Füllschachtende in die Kesselzüge gelangt. Auf diese Weise wird auch bei Gliederkesseln mit unterem Abbrand in einfacher Weise und kurzer Zeit eine Umstellung von einer Brennstoffart auf die andere ermöglicht und eine gute Ausnutzung der in den Heizgasen enthaltenen Wärme sichergestellt.
