Description
Alloys made of platinum metals, which are used in particular for the production of gold nibs. In the patent 437 173 , the inventor has protected alloys which are preferably used for the production of nib-tip alloys which, in addition to high hardness, have sufficient acid resistance. These alloys are characterized in that they have a content of 40 to 6o oo ruthenium, osmium and 35 to 5o% 5-1 5% platinum. It has now been found that the above-mentioned osmium content is expediently further reduced because, in addition to its high melting point, the osmium has a very high specific weight and the alloys are difficult to produce in a usable form due to these properties of the osmium. In addition, the extremely high oxidizing capacity of osmium easily causes the uptake of oxidic impurities in the alloy, which lead to brittleness.
It is therefore proposed, instead of the composition listed, to use alloys which have a ruthen content of more than 60%, preferably 60 to 80%, 10 to 35% osmium and 5 to a 5% of other platinum metals. In addition to the platinum mentioned in Patent 437 173 , the other platinum metals, in particular palladium or rhodium, can also be considered, since they make the alloy easy to manufacture. The increase in the ruthenium content is not only important in terms of melting technology, but also insofar as the ruthenium increases the cost-effectiveness of the alloy due to its low specific weight, since the metal weight falls for the same content with a lower specific weight.
