Es wird über denjenigen Fenstern, welche am leichtesten zugänglich sind, eine Rolle r angebracht, über welche entweder das Seil des Rettungsäpparates bei vorkommender Gefahr gelegt wird, oder an welcher der Rettungsapparat überhaupt angebracht ist. Letzterer besteht aus einem Sacke oder Korbe a, welcher oben mit einem Bügel b versehen ist. An letzterem befindet sich das Auge für das Seil und die Lager für die Welle w., auf welcher das Seil, wenn sich der Apparat oben befindet, aufgewunden ist. Das Seil ist durch verschiedene Oeffhungen des Bügels und durch eine Oeffnung an dem Drehzapfen ■{ derart geführt, dafs der Korb beim Herabgehen gebremst werden kann. Durch Drehen der Kurbel k wird das Seil nämlich um deren Zapfen \ herumgedreht, wodurch das Gleiten gehemmt oder auch, ganz aufgehoben werden kann. Damit der niedergelassene Rettungsapparat wieder aufgezogen und das Seil wieder aufgewunden wird, so dafs er zur Rettung weiterer Personen dienen kann, wurde das mit einliegender Feder versehene Federgehäuse g angebracht, dessen Zahnrad c in den Trieb e der Welle w eingreift. Die beim Niedergange aufgezogene Feder läuft, sobald der Sack oder dergleichen entleert ist, wieder ab und versetzt die Welle w in Umdrehung. Hierdurch wird das Seil aufgewickelt und der Rettungssack wieder aufgezogen. Damit letzterer auch von unten hochgezogen werden kann, wurde derselbe unten mit dem Seile s versehen. Wenn beim Einsteigen die Kurbel k nicht gleich gedreht und das Seil hierdurch gebremst werden kann, so wird, um das dann anfänglich zu schnelle Fallen zu verhüten, das Seil mit dem als Handhabe beim Einsteigen dienenden Bügel b zugleich erfafst und an denselben angedrückt.
