Abstract

Printing plate with a surface comprising inorganically bound silicon and bearing a pattern of hydrophilic and hydrophobic regions comprises hydrophobic regions in which the silicon atoms are bonded to organic terminal groups other than single methyl or methoxy groups. An Independent claim is also included for altering the wetting properties of a printing plate as above by putting part of the surface in a first chemical state with first wetting properties and putting part of the surface in a second chemical state with second wetting properties by altering the terminal groups.
