Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method for stabilizing compact deposits of pollutants of organic nature in the Ground. It concerns in particular the safe preservation Contaminated sites that cannot be removed from the ground, or cannot be removed immediately as well as landfill that is not or not economically degradable Fabrics. The field of application of the invention is environmental protection.
With increasing industrialization the danger of Soiling of soils by various substances, the so-called. Contaminated sites, always bigger. Soiling is particularly common through coal or lignite tars or pitches, through Mineral oils or residues from mineral oil processing Synthetic resins, plastic or elastic materials and stick organic substances containing substances, phosphorus or sulfur such as Plant protection products or explosives. The so contaminated Soils are gradually flushed out by rainwater Pollutants get into the soil through infiltration or directly Groundwater and are then further spread.
Attempts have been made to spread the contaminants through preventive building measures. The event with the Groundwater can either be cleaned in expensive and operator-intensive above-ground systems or by a Encapsulation of the deposit achieved with a dense wall become. These measures are very expensive and with one high technical effort.
The invention aims to overcome the disadvantages mentioned eliminate known environmental protection processes.
The essence of the invention is the compact present or deposited substances with a microorganism-containing To surround soil layer, in which the diffusion of Components of the deposits due to the microbial activity is intercepted, so that no further spread of these substances can be done.
In a simple variant of the invention naturally present in this soil layer Microorganisms activated by the addition of nutrients. That happens preferably by adding water, nutrients and / or Oxygen. In general, however, are bred externally Microorganisms introduced by means of selection isolated or under natural or anthropogenic environments Addition of the substances to be mined from the deposits were. Incorporation is preferably carried out in suspension form or mounted on solid supports. An example for Microorganisms used according to the invention is the mixture of Pseudomonas putida and Pseudomonas spec., Which are used to break down polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons is used.
The activity of the existing or introduced microorganisms is continuously monitored, as is the concentration of the diffusing pollutants in and outside the barrier layer. This control is achieved by means of sensor sets, which use mathematical programs are placed, e.g. B. based the fuzzy control technology, the evaluation of the obtained Data is computer-based. As soon as a possible Progress of the diffusing substances over the barrier layer Beyond that, the junction will be further or other externally grown microorganisms, nutrients, accessory substances and / or trace elements and / or Oxygen supplied. As accessory substances and For example, a mixture of trace elements is used Ammonium chloride, potassium dihydrogen phosphate, magnesium sulfate, Copper sulfate, yeast extract and peptone.

Fig. 1 shows the scheme of a contaminated with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons plot, which is conserved with a bioactive barrier layer.
According to these schemes, contamination site 1 with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) was located on a plot of land. An increased PAH concentration of 25 mg per liter in the groundwater outside the contamination source in the direction of the groundwater flow 2 was measured. For the purification of the outflowing water, the bioactive barrier layer 3 was installed in the form of a milled shaft which reached to the lowest limit of the contaminated groundwater layer and was filled with a bioactive PAH-reducing solid preparation. The thickness of layer 3 was chosen to be 0.6 m in order to ensure a dwell time of about 20 hours in the space of the ground water flowing at 0.6 m / d. The inner space of the barrier layer was ventilated via the compressed air line 4 . The degradation activity of microorganisms in the barrier layer was indirectly monitored by measuring the oxygen concentration in the water and by the CO 2 concentration in the exhaust air with the help of built-in sensors. A direct measurement of the PAH concentration in water samples was carried out using flow injection analysis. A maintenance-free, safe work of the barrier layer, in which a breakdown of PAH in the groundwater up to 3 mg per liter over several months was found.
Fig. 2 shows the formation of bioactive barrier layers to a contamination in the unsaturated soil region.
A soil area 1 ( FIG. 2) contaminated with mineral oil hydrocarbons (MKW) was 6 m below the surface of the earth. At the same time, its lower level was about 10 m above groundwater level 3 . The source of contamination gradually widened downwards, so that groundwater contamination had to be prevented. In this case, renovation and stabilization measures were carried out simultaneously. The air-water dispersion was introduced through the holes 2 in the lower and in the upper contamination area. A metered addition of moist air, which was coupled with the measured soil moisture, ensured that, on the one hand, no water ran downward from the area to be rehabilitated, and on the other hand that sufficient soil moisture was maintained to maintain the microorganism activity. The microorganisms present in the soil and activated by the humidification and ventilation formed bioactive barrier layers in the upper and lower contamination areas. The MKW concentration dropped slightly below the permissible limit value within the barrier layers and remained in this area for the entire renovation period. During the renovation, the upper barrier layer was aerated with the water-saturated and the lower barrier layer with the dry air. The MKW from the rising air was absorbed by the water in the upper barrier layer and broken down by the microorganisms. The air escaping from the earth showed hardly measurable MKW concentrations.
