Gegenstand der Erfindung ist eine Kalanderwalze, die insbesondere zum Glätten von Papier verwendet werden soll und von erheblicher Länge sein muß, Eine solche Walze muß möglichst dünn gehalten werden. Bei dem bisherigen, fast allgemein verwendeten Baustoff, nämlich Hartguß, war man aus Festigkeitsgründen an Grenzen gebunden, die durchaus als lästig empfunden wurden. Wollte man die Walze, wie es für die Glättwirkung günstig war,- dünn halten, so mußte man ihre Länge sehr stark beschränken. Man hat zwar auch Stahl als Baustoff -vorgeschlagen, war aber hiermit auch nicht zu wesentlich anderen Ergebnissen gekommen. Abhilfe wird erst gemäß der Erfindung dadurch geschaffen, daß bei Wahl des Stahls als Baustoff die Walze an der Oberfläche gehärtet wird. Man- ist nunmehr in der Lage, eine derart lange Walze und genügend dünn auszuführen, daß man Hochglanzpapiere, wie z. B. Pergamvn, in voller Papiermaschinenbreite glätten kann und doch nicht auf eine die Glättwirkung beeinträchtigende unzulässige Stärke der Walze gehen muß. Bisher hat man immer zu dem Umweg greifen müssen, Pergamvn und andere Hochglanzpapiere entweder auf der Papiermaschine oder auf einer besonderen Umrollmaschine in schmale Bahnen zu trennen, die man dann erst mit den erforderlichen dünnen, aber kurzen Walzen behandeln konnte, die dann auch den für die Glanzwirkung nötigen Schlupf haben.Patented in the German Empire on June 8, 1921.
