Abstract

The noise generated by an aircraft propeller is reduced if the rotational speed of the propeller is reduced. Many aircraft engines incorporate a speed reduction gear to achieve this result. For those engines which do not incorporate a speed reduction gear, there is a speed reduction gear (1) which is incorporated in the propeller hub. The speed reduction gear consists of a shaft with an attached flange which can be bolted to the engine flywheel. This shaft carries a pinion which meshes with an internally toothed gear which forms part of the propeller hub. Eingehende Studien über Propeller zeigen, daß die Drehzahl den größten Einfluß auf die Lärmentwicklung des Propeller ausübt.
