Abstract

U-shaped clips are crimped onto the bag or tube by a stamping tool acting against a fixed base part. The tool moves in such a way that it presses towards each other, and downward towards the base, the arms of a clip which is supported on the fixed base. A groove in the tool extends in the circumferential direction of the clip and corresponds with the shape of the clip during pressing. The width of this groove is the same as the width of the clip, and its depth is less than the thickness of the clip arms and decreases from the centre outwards. In the case of clips with tapering arms, the groove width corresponds with the reduced clip width. Pref. the base tool (1) contains a trough-shaped recess (2) to receive the clip (3) and to hold it during crimping. Ridges (4) hold the clip in place while it is cut off from a strip of clips by cutting edges (5,6).
