Abstract
A linearly driven sled carries a motor rotationally driving the honing head (6) with its honing stone. The motion of the sled is effected by a direct current motor (1) with servo control and solid state transistor adjustment, or other high efficiency variable speed drive system, having the capability of full speed reversal within one third of a second. The sled drive comprises the above motor together with a tachogenerator (2) and reducer (3). At the operating console a potentiometer delivers a tension linearly proportional to the adjustment angle, with a reed-relay, servo-amplifier, gradient generator, and internal current circuit for accurate regulation of the rotational momentum or kinetic energy.
