Auf Verpackungen von Waren oder auf Waren (Gegenständen) selbst mechanisch befestigtes oder aufgeklebtes Etikett zur Produktidentifikation mittels elektronischer Datenverarbeitung. Das Etikett trägt sichtbar eine EAN-Nummer in Klarschrift sowie die EAN-Nummer als Barcode. In dem Etikett ist integriert ein nicht sichtbarer Folientransponder (a. aktiv arbeitend mit integrierter Stromquelle als Folienbatterie; b. passiv arbeitend ohne integrierte Stromquelle als Folienbatterie). Der Folientransponder besteht aus einem Microchip und einer in das Etikett integrierten Antenne, welche die Produktidentifikation und Lokalisation der mit dem Etikett markierten Ware/Verpackung mittels drahtlosen Datentransfers ermöglicht. Die Größe des Etiketts ist variabel, beträgt jedoch sinnvollerweise ca. 2 × 5 × 0,2-0,3 cm.
