Description

The invention relates to an inner band in a hat made of a textile band material that is highly elastically stretchable in the longitudinal direction and inextensible in the transverse direction.

Inner bands in hats are usually made of materials that cannot be stretched in either direction, such as ribbed or taffeta. Inner bands made of leather or leather substitutes are also common, especially in men's hats, and ultimately offer little comfort. Hats with such non-stretchable, i.e. rigid, inner bands do not adapt to the shape of the head; such a non-stretchable inner band prevents a hat with the usual average hat size from being widened to fit a larger head, and adjusting it to fit a smaller head is completely impossible. A hat, if it is not made to measure, will usually either sit too high and, if it is not to be lost, uncomfortably tight, or slide too low down to the eyes, which not only detracts from the elegance but is generally uncomfortable and makes wearing the hat a disservice. Grosgrain or taffeta ribbons made of synthetic fibers are hard and, like inner ribbons made of leather substitutes, do not absorb sweat, so that

A lengthwise elastic band made of 100% polyester (elastane), which until then had been used primarily in the manufacture of underwear, was also used as an inner band for hats, but this was still unsatisfactory, even if it did provide a certain amount of flexibility for adjustment. The polyester band is relatively hard, it scratches the head and does not absorb sweat, is generally not comfortable enough and looks synthetic and therefore not very appealing.

The object of the invention is to create an inner band for hats or similar headgear that improves the wearing properties of hats, prevents the hat from slipping, adapts to different head sizes and gives the wearer a pleasant, non-disturbing feeling.

This is achieved according to the invention in that it consists of a known band material that is highly elastically stretchable in the longitudinal direction and inextensible in the transverse direction, and contains a proportion of highly elastic synthetic fibers and a proportion of natural fibers.

The natural fiber content can be at least 5% and at most 95%. A minimum of 5% elastic synthetic fiber is required to achieve the desired elasticity. By adding the natural fiber, you get a breathable, non-slip inner band for hats, which also has a beautiful

Preferably, the warp threads are made of elastic synthetic fiber and the weft thread of natural fiber. The surrounding fabric can be made of either polyester or a suitable natural fiber.

It is best to choose a band that is at least 20 mm and no more than 50 mm wide.

The natural fiber added can be cotton, viscose or silk.

The new inner band for a hat can be advantageously provided with a bead on one side, which makes it much easier to sew the band exactly on the entroe line of a hat or other head covering, because the bead provides a kind of guide for the sewing machine.

By sewing the band according to the invention into the hat with a slight pull, it forms an inner ring in the hat that narrows towards the top in the shape of a truncated cone and can thus reduce the original width of a hat by 1 to 4 cm. This means that one and the same hat can be worn for several head sizes and is therefore standardized. The hat no longer has to be made to measure to fit perfectly; it can be bought in department stores.

If the ring does not take on a conical shape, the original size of the hat is standardized upwards to accommodate larger head sizes.

In addition to being sold by the meter, the band according to the invention can also be manufactured in standardized, cut-to-length band pieces or as a closed ring band in standard dimensions for its special use as a hat inner band.

It is also possible to weave or weave a label into the band, e.g. a company or manufacturer logo or even print it on. This means that the manufacturer no longer needs to mark the hat with an inner sticker, as is currently the case, which can also be ironed on and which will eventually fall off, leaving behind traces of glue. The very laborious task of sewing in a label is also avoided.

The ribbon can be produced in the usual way as a narrow fabric on a needle loom, preferably in a twill weave; an additional jacquard head is used to weave in a marking.

The inventive, highly elastic hat inner band 1 in the longitudinal direction is sewn with a slight pull exactly on the hat 3's opening line 2, so that, as can be seen from Fig. 1 to 3, it forms an inner ring in the hat 3, which narrows slightly towards the top in the shape of a truncated cone and reduces the original opening width of the hat 3 by 1 to 4 cm. Due to its elasticity, the band can therefore adapt to different head sizes. For example, a woman's hat with an average hat size of 57 can also be worn by a head of 55 or 56. Three head sizes are therefore covered with one hat shape or standard hat size, with a perfect fit. A hat that is too big is reduced in size by the new hat inner band 1 and no longer slips over the wearer's eyes. In addition, the wearer can freely determine the height and type of fit of his hat, i.e. whether the hat should sit high or low, at an angle or straight on the head, in any case the hat will sit exactly as desired and without slipping, as the inventive hat inner band 1 nestles softly and non-slip against the head. Fashionably oversized, cylindrical hats can also be worn by smaller heads.

To ensure this good fit, the hat's inner band 1 should be at least 2 cm wide, but 5 cm is sufficient in any case.

According to the invention, the material of the band consists of a proportion of highly elastic synthetic fibers and a proportion of natural fibers, such as cotton, viscose or silk. The band can be

a narrow-weaving needle frame, preferably using a mixed technique, with the warp threads preferably made of elastic synthetic fiber, e.g. bare polyester, and the weft made of natural fiber. A third thread can also be used, which wraps around the warp and weft and can be made of synthetic fiber or a suitable natural fiber. Such ribbons are known, for example, as "crochet galloon ribbon." The synthetic fiber or polyester content ensures the desired elasticity, the natural fiber content can be 5% to 95%, it makes the ribbon non-slip, breathable, soft, sweat-absorbing and skin and hair-friendly and, together with the coarse-mesh and large-pored weave, ensures an optimal, breathable hat climate, which is also promoted by the fact that the hat no longer has to lie directly on the head to ensure a good fit. Instead, an air cushion is created between the hat and the head, which is good for the head and the hair.

This means that winter wool or fur felt hats do not have to be bothered by annoying itching, as the wool or felt no longer has to come into direct contact with the skin. Summer hats made of straw or raffia, which are already stretchy, retain their stretchability and remain airy thanks to the new, elastic, breathable inner hat band. For naturally soft, sewn fabric hats, the new inner hat band improves wearing comfort, as standardization can counteract slipping particularly well here.

An extension of the adjustment options to larger head sizes can be achieved, especially with the already stretchy hats made of straw or raffia and the soft fabric hats, by sewing in the new inner hat band loosely, i.e. without tension.

Sewing the band into the hat can be made considerably easier by providing the band material according to the invention for use as an inner band for the hat with a bead on one side, which then forms a guide for the sewing machine.

Normally, the strip material is manufactured in the traditional way as meter goods, but it is also possible to manufacture it in standardized, cut-to-length strip pieces or as a closed ring in standardized sizes, which eliminates a potentially annoying undercut.

An identification mark, e.g. a company or manufacturer logo, can be woven, knitted or printed into the band material. This means that the manufacturer does not need to identify the hat with an internal sticker, which will eventually fall off and always leave traces of glue.

The hat's inner band can also be colour-coordinated with the hat, whereby a millet-like colour mix of warp and weft allows the same band to be adapted to several colour nuances of the hat.
