Manche von ihnen besitzen gleichzeitig mehrere dieser ihre Verwendung erschwerenden Eigenschaften.ίο others are difficult to get along with at all Mix the varnish and form viscous ones, especially not very suitable for printing Masses, etc. Some of them have several of these uses at the same time aggravating properties.
The deficiencies in question are probably due to the fact that the common Methods for soot production not pure carbon is obtained, but next to it Compounds of carbon of an unspecified kind arise, be it through Polymerization of the starting materials or by other means of which it appears even extremely small amounts are sufficient to remove the aforementioned bad properties of soot to cause. At least some carbon blacks show such properties without a quantitative detection of foreign substances would be possible with them.
Brom, Eisenchlorid usw., gaben brauchbare Resultate.
Many attempts have been made to improve such carbon blacks by treating them with all kinds of solvents commonly used in organic chemistry, in the hope that it would be possible to extract the foreign substances contained in them in this way. In particular, alcohol, benzene, caustic soda, concentrated sulfuric acid, etc., have been used for this purpose and, in some cases, an improvement, even if only imperfect, has been achieved. Attempts have been made to achieve the same purpose by calcining the carbon blacks in special ovens, but this treatment has not had the desired effect either.
In attempts to find a more perfect method of removing the troublesome foreign substances, the discovery was made that this is possible through the action of the most varied of oxidizing agents. The hypochlorite of sodium and calcium, as well as permanganate, chromic acid, manganese dioxide and sulfuric acid or higher sulphates of manganese, have proven to be particularly suitable. But other oxidizing agents, such as chlorine, bromine, ferric chloride, etc., gave useful results. A destruction of free carbon could not be determined with correct application of the mentioned and other oxidizing agents.
Die praktische Ausführung des Reinigungs-Verfahrens gestaltet sich zweckmäßig so, daßv man den Ruß mit den in hinreichendenThe practical execution of the cleaning process is expediently designed in such a way that v the soot with the in sufficient
