Der Gegenstand der Erfindung ist ein Backofen, welcher eine Feuerung hat, die sowohl für mittelbare als auch unmittelbare Heizung bzw. für eine teilweise mittelbare und unmittelbare Heizung dienen kann. Fig. 3 ist die Vorderansicht der Feuerung. Der vertieft liegende Rost α ist in einem Kasten k eingebaut, der in einer entsprechenden Kammer m im Backofenmauerwerk auf und ab verschiebbar ist. Dieser Kasten k ist oben durch eine Decke η (Brustplatte) abgeschlossen und besitzt nur oben an seiner Hinterwand unterhalb der Decke η eine spaltförmige öffnung b, durch welche die Heizgase austreten können. Unterhalb des Rostes a ist der Kasten k ebenfalls geschlossen, und der Raum 0, der dadurch unter dem Rost a entsteht, dient als Ascheraum. Der Feuerraum und der Ascheraum sind durch Türen p verschließbar. Die Kammer m, in der sich der Kasten k befindet, ist durch eine Tür q abgeschlossen. Gegen die Unterseite des Kastens k drückt ein Hebel r, der drehbar am Backofenmauerwerk gelagert ist.
