Dressing material and treatment solution for use with the Dressing material

The invention relates to a dressing material according to the preamble of claim 1 and to a treatment solution according to the preamble of claim 13.

It is generally known that wound healing can be improved by a moist environment, whereby media that support wound healing or at least contain a medication, such as solutions, can be used. One method currently in use is to soak the dressing material or a layer of absorbent material with the solution in question and then apply the dressing material to the wound. This is cumbersome to handle and requires specially trained personnel, particularly when treating larger and deeper wounds and when changing the dressing frequently.

The aim of the innovation is to demonstrate a dressing material which enables improved wound healing with simplified application. To solve this problem, a dressing material is designed in accordance with claim 1. A treatment medium which can be used with the dressing material is designed in accordance with claim 13.

The innovative dressing material has the advantage that it allows wound healing in a moist environment using media that promote wound healing and/or contain medication, particularly solutions, and also significantly increases the time within which a dressing must be changed. For example, when using the innovative dressing material, it is possible to change the dressing only three days after the first treatment of a wound, i.e. at a time when even a deep wound has already healed to such an extent that the risk of

Infections are significantly reduced. This long residence time of the dressing material on the wound also ensures the wound rest necessary for rapid healing, especially within the first few days after the wound has been treated. This is possible because the chamber for the treatment medium has at least one connection leading out of the dressing material for refilling and/or renewing the treatment medium.

In a preferred embodiment, which is characterized by a particularly inexpensive and effective construction of the dressing material, the chamber is formed by at least one channel which extends in several sections and/or turns over the surface of the dressing material. This channel is then preferably at least one piece of tubing.

Further developments of the innovation are the subject of the subclaims. The innovation is explained in more detail below using the figures for an exemplary embodiment. They show:

Fig. 1 shows a schematic partial representation of the layer structure of a dressing material according to the innovation, wherein the individual layers in the dressing material which are actually connected to one another are shown separated from one another in the manner of an exploded view for the sake of better clarity;

Fig. 2 shows a simplified schematic view of the material of Figure 1.

The dressing material generally designated 1 in the figures, which is particularly suitable for treating open, deep wounds, is essentially designed as a multi-layer flat material, for example with a square or rectangular cut.

In the embodiment shown, the dressing material 1 consists of a first, outer sterile layer 2, which forms the covering on the wound and is covered by a

perforated flat material, for example perforated film made of a suitable plastic, e.g. PVC. The single-layer outer layer 2 is followed by a layer 3 which is made of several layers of a sterile, absorbent and air and moisture-permeable material, for example a coarse fabric or a non-woven material. In the embodiment shown, the layer 3 consists of several layers of sterile gauze, for example four layers. The other surface or outside of the dressing material 1, which in use is the outer surface of this dressing material facing away from the wound, is formed by a layer 4 which in the embodiment shown is made of a single layer and consists of a flat material or a film, preferably a plastic film. The layer 4 has semi-permeable properties, i.e. it is permeable to air and gases, but not permeable to liquids. A lumen or tube piece 5 is attached to the inner side of the layer 4 facing the layer 3, which extends in a meandering manner almost over the entire surface of the layer 4 and thus over the entire surface of the dressing material 1 and forms two ends or connections 6 which are led out laterally from the dressing material 1, in the embodiment shown in such a way that these ends 6 protrude on two opposite circumferential sides 1' and 1" of the dressing material.

The hose section 5, which forms a channel for receiving and distributing a treatment medium, in particular a liquid or aqueous treatment medium, is designed over its length within the dressing material 1, ie between the layers 3 and 4, in such a way that a finely distributed discharge of the treatment medium present in the hose section 5 into the layer 3 is possible. For this purpose, the hose section 5 is, for example, finely perforated. The protruding ends 6 are preferably each formed by a hose length that does not have this perforation.

The individual layers 2, 3 and 4 with the hose piece 5 arranged between the layers 3 and 4 are connected to each other in a suitable manner,

for example along the edge of the dressing material 1 and/or at specific points within the dressing material 1.

When in use, the dressing material 1 is placed on the wound to be treated with layer 2 and then fixed, for example, at the edge using adhesive tape 7 or in some other way. In order to achieve improved wound healing in a moist environment, a solution suitable for wound treatment is fed through one end 6, for example through the upper end in Figure 2, until this solution emerges at the other end or connection 6 and the entire chamber formed by the tube piece 5 is filled with this treatment solution. Both ends 6 are then closed, for example with a suitable plug. The treatment solution emerging from the tube piece 5 is finely distributed over the entire dressing material over the layer 3 and thus in particular over the entire wound area. The solution in the tube piece 5 is renewed and replaced several times a day, for example twice a day.

The innovative dressing material keeps the wound optimally occlusive and moist, so that wound healing is significantly improved. The particular advantage of the innovative dressing material is that the dressing only needs to be changed after several days, for example only every three days, so that the first change of the dressing material usually takes place at a time when even a deep, open wound has already closed to such an extent that the risk of additional infection when changing the dressing can be ruled out. The long time interval between applying the dressing material and the first change of this dressing material also ensures that the wound rest necessary for the initial healing process is achieved within the first few days after treating a wound. The innovative dressing material therefore combines the advantages of wound healing in a moist environment with the advantage of long wound rest, which promotes the healing process, particularly in the first few days.

The dressing material 1 is also suitable for use in a skin transplant to treat or cover the transplant site, but also to treat the donor side (e.g. buttocks) where the transplanted skin was taken.

The treatment medium used here is, for example, a solution which contains zinc and iron in aqueous solution, namely, in addition to distilled water and sulphuric acid, 15 - 45 mg zinc and 10-30 mg iron per litre of solution, with the proportion of sulphuric acid being selected so that a pH value of between 2.5 and 3.1, preferably 2.8, is obtained. In a preferred embodiment, 95 - 97% sulphuric acid is used. The distilled water is double distilled water in accordance with DAB 10. Suitable raw materials include, for example, ZnCl2 and FeSO4, namely around 46 - 80 mg ZnCl2 and 80 - 114 mg FeSO4 per litre of solution.

An example of the composition of the treatment solution is given below:

One liter of solution contains 980g Bi-distilled water DAB10 0.097g _FeSO4 0.063g _ZnCl2

Rest sulfuric acid 95 - 97% in a proportion until a pH value of 2.8 is reached.

The innovation has been described above using an exemplary embodiment. It is understood that numerous changes and modifications are possible without thereby departing from the inventive concept underlying the innovation.

Claims (18)

1. Dressing material, consisting of several layers which adjoin and are connected to one another, namely at least a first perforated layer ( 2 ) which forms a covering on the wound, a preferably multi-layered soft and at the same time absorbent second layer ( 3 ) and a third layer ( 4 ) which, in the application, forms the outer surface of the dressing material facing away from a wound, characterized in that at least one chamber ( 5 ) is provided within the layer sequence formed by the layers, which has at least one connection ( 6 ) accessible on an outer side of the dressing material ( 1 ) for supplying a treatment medium and is formed on a wall for the finely distributed release of the treatment medium into the second layer ( 3 ). 2. Dressing material according to claim 1, characterized in that the chamber ( 5 ) is finely perforated on its wall. 3. Dressing material according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the chamber ( 5 ) is designed like a channel and extends with several channel sections and/or turns over the surface of the dressing material ( 1 ). 4. Dressing material according to claim 3, characterized in that the chamber ( 5 ) forms a connection ( 5 ) at each of its two ends. 5. Dressing material according to claim 3 or 4, characterized in that the chamber is formed by at least one piece of tubing ( 5 ). 6. Dressing material according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the chamber ( 5 ) is provided between the third layer ( 4 ) forming the outside of the dressing material and a further layer, for example the second layer ( 3 ). 7. Dressing material according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the chamber ( 5 ) is provided on the side of the second layer facing away from the first layer and adjacent to the latter. 8. Dressing material according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the chamber ( 5 ) is provided in the preferably multi-layered second layer ( 3 ). 9. Dressing material according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the third layer ( 4 ) is semi-permeable, ie allows gas and air to pass through, but blocks liquid. 10. Dressing material according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the at least one connection ( 6 ) is led out of the dressing material ( 1 ) on one side thereof. 11. Dressing material according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the at least one piece of tubing ( 5 ) is fixed to the third layer ( 4 ). 12. Dressing material according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the chamber ( 5 ) serves to hold a treatment solution which contains per litre of solution in addition to water and sulphuric acid:

Treatment solution for use in the dressing material according to any one of the preceding claims, for promoting the acceptance of a transplant, in particular of transplanted skin, by the tissue at a transplant site, characterized by an aqueous solution containing per liter of solution in addition to water and sulphuric acid:

wherein the proportion of sulphuric acid is selected such that a pH value of about 2.5 to 3.1, preferably 2.8, is achieved. 14. Treatment solution according to claim 13, characterized by the use of 95-97% sulfuric acid. 15. Treatment solution according to one of the preceding claims, characterized by the use of ZnCl ₂ as zinc component, preferably in an amount of 46-80 mg per liter of solution. 16. Treatment solution according to one of the preceding claims, characterized by the use of FeSO ₄ as iron component, preferably in an amount of 80-114 mg per liter of solution. 17. Treatment solution according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that it contains about 30 mg of zinc and 20 mg of iron per liter of solution, preferably prepared using about 63 mg of ZnCl ₂ and about 97 mg of FeSO ₄ . 18. Treatment solution according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the aqueous solution contains, in addition to zinc and iron, only distilled water and sulphuric acid.
