The invention relates to a mascara or dental brush with a steel wire core, in which the steel wire core consists of two pieces of steel wire twisted together in a spiral manner and bristles are held in the core.

A mascara brush is known (EP O 250 680 B2) in which a core consists of two pieces of metal wire twisted together in a spiral and in which bristles are held. In this known mascara brush, no information is given about the type or composition of the metal wire. A mascara brush of this kind is also known in practice in which the metal wire core is a steel wire core, the steel wire of which contains C, Si, Mn, P and Cr and is free of Mo, V, Nb and Ti. However, this steel wire also contains Ni, namely 8.00 - 10.5%.

It is also known that an article of daily use made of steel containing nickel that frequently comes into direct contact with human skin can trigger allergic reactions in humans. In the case of a mascara brush, the bristles and the handle come into contact with human skin, not the steel wire core. In the case of a mascara brush, the steel wire core does not come into direct contact with human skin even when it is used; the only way the steel wire core can come into contact with human skin is through a liquid, such as mascara or saliva.

Nevertheless, the invention has set itself the task of designing the conditions with regard to the steel wire core of a mascara or dental brush in such a way that the possibility of allergic reactions in humans is reduced. The mascara or dental brush according to the invention achieves this task by being characterized in that the steel wire is free of Ni.

The invention also avoids an indirect connection between the steel wire core and human skin via mascara or saliva. The brush in question here can therefore also reduce the transfer of nickel from the steel wire core to the human skin. as a material in itself is known. It is a steel wire with a diameter of < 1 mm, which is usually < 0.8 mm for mascara brushes and < 0.4 mm for dental brushes.

It turns out that a Ni-free steel wire also meets the requirements that are placed on the core of a mascara or dental brush. These requirements include that the steel wire can be easily produced by drawing, that the steel wire can be easily twisted, that the core shows no tendency to untwist and that the core shows sufficient bending strength. Despite being Ni-free, the steel wire used also meets the requirement for rust-free use in mascara or dental applications. The Ni-free steel wire is also inexpensive given its other composition.

It is particularly useful and advantageous if the steel wire contains Mn < 1.10% and/or if the steel wire contains Cr = 15.5 - 18.5%. This quantitative reduction in the Mn and Cr components also makes the steel wire more cost-effective while adequately meeting the requirements placed on the brush core.

As a rule, a mascara brush has a handle on the end of the steel wire core opposite the bristles. The steel wire usually contains C, Si, Mn, P and Cr and is free of Mo, V, Nb and Ti.

The mascara brush according to Fig. 1 has a steel wire core 1 made of two steel wire pieces 2 twisted together. The steel wire core 1 has a trim 3 made of bristles 4 (not shown in detail) at one end and a handle 5 at the other end. Between the handle 5 and the trim 3, the steel wire core forms a freely accessible area 6. This also applies to the dental brush according to Fig. 2, except that there is no handle 5 here.

The steel wire has a diameter of 0.65 - 0.75 mm and is marked according to DIN or ISO as follows:

Claims (5)

Mascara or dental brush with a steel wire core, in which the steel wire core consists of two pieces of steel wire twisted together in a spiral manner and bristles are held in the core, characterized in that the steel wire ( 2 ) is free of Ni. 2. Marcara or dental brush according to claim 1, characterized in that the steel wire ( 1 , 2 ) contains C, Si, Mn, P and Cr and is free from Mo, V, Nb and Ti. 3. Mascara or dental brush according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the steel wire ( 2 ) contains Mn ≤ 1.10%. 4. Mascara or dental brush according to claim 1, 2 or 3, characterized in that the steel wire ( 2 ) contains Cr = 15.5-18.5%. 5. Mascara brush according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that a handle part ( 5 ) is provided on the end of the steel wire core ( 1 ) opposite the bristle trim ( 3 ).
