Abstract

The unit has a first supply system for injection of a liquid fuel, and a second supply system to supply a fuel as starter fuel. The second system also supplies a gaseous fuel as a warm-up fuel after the cold start of an IC engine, until the exhaust treatment unit is fully effective. The second system has a gas collection pipe (4) for the gaseous fuel on the low pressure side. A number of nozzles (5-8) corresponding to the number of engine cylinders branch off the gas collection pipe. The system also has a valve regulator system upstream of a pressure regulation valve (9) on the high pressure side, and a second valve regulator system between the valve and the gas collection pipe on the low pressure side.

Description

The invention relates to a fuel supply system for a mixture-compressing internal combustion engine according to those in the preamble of claim 1 specified features.

There are e.g. B. from DE 29 29 271 C2 fuel supply Plants for internal combustion engines known to improve of the cold start more ignitable fuel than starting fuel use during the starting process.

Thus, in addition to the conventional liquid fuel Operating fuel as ether based fuel Starting aid used, the cheaper with the intake air Combustion properties in the critical cold start area possible, but also the exhaust emissions during the Favorably influenced.

The invention has for its object a fuel Supply system of the generic type to be expanded so that pollutant emissions continue to decrease significantly to let.

The object is achieved in the characterizing part of patent claim 1 specified features solved.

In that the internal combustion engine beyond the cold start gaseous fuel up to the effective working temperature of the Exhaust gas treatment device is supplied, the stricter emissions regulations, such as those in the future in the USA, Japan  and also become common in Europe are used as conventional liquid only Fuel throughout the operating range. By Switching from one fuel supply system with gas shaped fuel on the other fuel supply system liquid fuel after the warm-up phase is therefore the Range of the vehicle not restricted.

To use internal combustion engines, but they only serve as Tools for starting an internal combustion engine.

In the subclaims there are still further developments Invention specified.

Es zeigen:The object of the invention is shown in the drawing and will be explained in more detail below using an exemplary embodiment described. Show it:

Fig. 1 die erfindungsgemäße Ausführung eines Kraftstoffzuführsystemes mit gasförmigem Kraftstoff und Fig. 1 shows the embodiment of a fuel supply system with gaseous fuel and

Fig. 2 shows the arrangement of this system on the internal combustion engine.

In Fig. 1, an x both as tempering or starting aid as serving also for the warm-up of a mixture internal combustion engine fuel supply system 1 for optimizing the HC and NO emission levels is shown. Natural gas is used as fuel, which is available in an exchangeable gas cartridge 2 . The gas pressure in the cartridge is approximately 200 bar.

The gas cartridge 2 is connected by a gas line 3 to a gas collecting tube 4 , to which nozzles 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 are connected, the number of which corresponds to the number of cylinders of the internal combustion engine. However, connecting lines branching from the gas collecting tube 4 can also lead to the nozzles 5 to 8 .

In the gas line 3, a pressure regulator 9 is arranged, which divides the gas pipe 3 into a high-pressure side duct section 10 and a low pressure side duct section. 11

In the line section 10 on the high-pressure side of the gas cartridge 2 , a manual shut-off valve 12 is provided for exchanging the gas cartridge.

Downstream of this manual shut-off valve 12 is a first valve control device, which consists of an electromagnetic valve 13 and is opened when the emergency starts.

A second valve control device is arranged on the low pressure side and also consists of an electromagnetic valve 14 which is installed for safety reasons in the event that the system becomes gas-leaky.

The acting as injection nozzles 5 to 8 are individually intermittently controlled by an electronic control unit 15 , depending on the load and speed.

16 , 17 designate sensors, of which the sensor 16 detects the gas temperature and the sensor 17 the gas pressure in the gas collecting tube 4 for the control unit 15 .

A high pressure side pressure transducer 18 downstream of the solenoid valve 14 is used for gas display.

In Fig. 2, an intake manifold 19 of the internal combustion engine is shown with an injection nozzle branching off from the gas collection tube 4 for bringing in the gaseous fuel. The injection nozzle opens upstream of an injection nozzle 20 , through which liquid fuel is injected into the intake manifold 19 . The injection nozzle can also be arranged downstream of the injection nozzle 20 .

The injector 20 is part of a conventional liquid fuel-operated fuel delivery system that is separate from the gas-powered fuel delivery system. Both systems work independently of each other.

For cold starts and low ambient temperatures, first of all as a fuel gas, which can mainly consist of methane, used. The gas operation is in the process of the cold start Maintain subsequent warm-up phase. As soon as the Internal combustion engine and the exhaust gas aftertreatment device are warmed sufficiently, which means that the effectiveness of this Exhaust aftertreatment device or the catalyst reached is on the usual liquid fuel (petrol) switched.

Due to the gas operation also in the warm-up phase Problems of mixture formation in a cold internal combustion engine avoided. As a result, the pollutant emissions, especially the HC Emission, and fuel consumption can be reduced.
