The invention relates to a new construction and installation of lamps, wherein the heat of the products of combustion is used in the air while it is after the flame flows to heat; this construction is illustrated in the accompanying drawing.

Fig. 1 shows a vertical section of the upper part of a gas lamp with a circular burner A, which is shown in side view in FIG. In the center of the burner a cylindrical handle B is attached, which is made of copper or some other good heat conductor and is preferably coated on the surface with bare platinum to serve as a reflector. The stem B extends some distance over the burner and has a star-shaped crown at the upper end, as indicated in the basic riff, FIG. 3.

The stem also extends downwards and its lower part B ^{1 has} a longitudinal bore for a channel h for the passage of the gas to the burner, as well as a transverse channel b ¹ for the same purpose. The gas supply pipe can be attached to the stem at _Z? ^a . A number of perforated copper washers C are fastened between a shoulder # ² on the lower stem B ¹ and a nut ί> ³ , as shown in the outline in Fig. 4, by holding these washers at a small distance from one another by means of rings c between them. as well as by small approaches c ^x close to the circumference. These disks are enclosed in a housing D by a poor heat conductor such as asbestos. Above the discs C a hood B of ordinary shape is placed to direct the air towards the lower part of the flame.

If the lamp is now fed with gas through B ¹ , it works as follows:

The stem B and its crown are heated to a high degree by the flame, and a considerable part of this heat is conducted downwards into the discs C, so that the air which flows through them upwards towards the flame is considerably heated, before it reaches the flame, partly through the outer hood and partly through the inside of the burner, as indicated by arrows, and the luminosity of the flame is thus considerably increased.
