Die biegsamen Leiter, die man bei Selbstfahrern, Bogenlampen, Dynamomaschinen, elektrischen Beleuchtungsanlagen usw. zur Fortleitung des elektrischen Stromes verwendet, haben mancherlei Nachteile und Übelstä'nde. Da die zur Isolierung dienenden, übereinander liegenden, konzentrischen Guttapercha- und Kautschukschichten unter der Einwirkung von Temperaturä'nderungen sehr leicht aufspringen und rissig werden, so tritt häufig ein stellenweises Freilegen der Leitungsdrähte ein, wodurch dieselben nicht mehr in zweckentsprechender Weise Verwendung finden und leicht Kurzschlüsse eintreten können. Über jenem Mantel c endlich liegt eine Wicklung d, die von einem Seidengeflecht oder einem anderen in sich geschlossenen und fortlaufenden Stoffe gebildet wird.
