Description
KAISERLICHESIMPERIAL
PATENTAMT.PATENT OFFICE.
The present invention consists in a method which is wasted in the manufacture of raw sugar To dry separating sludge, in its application the fertilizer value of the dried one Separation sludge is increased by the desiccant.
Auflage, S. 248).The one in raw sugar production as a waste product the resulting sludge consists of about 40 pCt. ■ carbonate of lime, 10 pct. organic matter, phosphoric acid and nitrogen and 50 pCt. Water. Alone because of its phosphoric acid and nitrogen content, it represents an average Fertilizer value of about 50 pfennigs per cent, while its organic matter content and especially on carbonate of lime for almost all types of beet-producing soils of high quality It is important that its entire agricultural value is about 60 pfennigs per centner is not overestimated. This value, however, is essentially diminished high water content and the difficult divisibility it brings about. The 50 pCt. Water is a worthless ballast, which on top of that makes transport much more expensive, and cause a greasy, lumpy texture, which is a fine distribution in the Makes arable tops impossible. This fine distribution is, however, in order to have a fertilizing effect to bring about the separation sludge is absolutely necessary (cf. Stohmann, Handbuch sugar production, III. Edition, p. 248).
But all methods of bringing about good divisibility of the sludge, such as Air drying, composting. Freezing, because of the large size, are manual labor The amount to be handled is too expensive and too dependent on the weather.
The new method is characterized by the fact that any quantity can be handled cheaply by machine and the desiccant, the quick lime, the fertilizer value of the dried sludge elevated. The process itself is based on the energetic chemical relationship of the fired Lime to the water and consists in the following process:
Das trockene,The sludge falling in the raw sugar factory is mixed in a suitable mixer or Kneading machine mixed with crushed, quicklime. The quick lime eagerly draws water from the sludge and with it forms calcium hydroxide, so great a heat development takes place that a further amount of the water of the separating sludge is evaporated and the separating sludge itself with the calcium hydroxide forms a dry, fine, scatterable powder. Depending on the water content of the to be dried Separation sludge it is possible with 1 part by weight of quicklime 5, 6 and more To dry parts by weight of the mud. The lime used respectively. its hydroxide is itself a valuable fertilizer, and increases the value of the dried one by its admixture Divorcee schlainmes. The dry,
The finished product can be transported in sacks and carried by hand or machine Fields to be scattered.
It is already well known that quicklime is used as a desiccant ζ. B. for marl, lime sludge and the like, but quick lime is used to dry the sludge has not yet been proposed for sugar production. Here he not only pursues the purpose of drying, but increases, as already noted, the fertilizer value of the sludge and, what is still more essential saves it from fermentation, which is the case with the wet ones, which are otherwise stored in heaps Separation sludge cannot be avoided.
