Description
Electrolyte for Electrolytic Capacitors The invention relates to on an electrolyte thickened by special means for electrolytic Capacitors.
Electrolytes for electrolytic capacitors must have a high conductivity so that the capacitor has a low dissipation factor. To this end Usually as much water is added to the electrolyte as the lowest working temperature permitted. Such highly conductive electrolytes are very fluid. During manufacture of the capacitor can therefore easily lose some of the electrolyte, so that the capacitor does not have the intended electrical properties.
The invention relates to an electrolyte for electrolytic Capacitors using special thickeners. This will not only avoided the above disadvantage, but also the electrical values of the capacitor improved.
The thickener according to the invention consists of a salt of a sulfonated polystyrene having a molecular weight of at least 10,000. Preferably the thickener added to the electrolyte has a molecular weight between 10,000 and 70,000.
B. das Natriumsalz, das ein wasserlösliches Harz ist.1 to 30 percent by weight of thickener is expedient for the electrolyte added. Suitable sulfonated polystyrenes are e.g. B. the sodium salt, which is a is water soluble resin.
The thickening of this resin occurs particularly in the presence of solutions with a pH of 1 to 12, which has a high concentration of cations, for example of barium, cadmium or lithium.
The thickener according to the invention improves at the same time the loss factor of the capacitor, especially at low temperatures.
It is known that the electrolyte is a solvent, for example Ethylene glycol, to lower the freezing point of the electrolyte, whereby the properties at low temperatures are improved. It was found, that the addition of thickeners according to the invention to the electrolyte of Capacitors containing such solvents, their advantageous properties further improved. By adding the thickener according to the invention also applies to an electrolyte consisting only of water and salt improves the function of the capacitor at low temperatures.
