Die gewöhnlichen Vertikalgalvanometer, also diejenigen Strommesser, welche eine nach Art eines Wagebalkens in vertikaler Ebene schwingende Magnetnadel enthalten, sind so construirt, dafs zum Zwecke der Erzielung grofser Empfindlichkeit möglichst zahlreiche Windungen nahe an der Magnetnadel liegen. In diesem Falle ist eine Berechnung des auf den Magneten ausgeübten Drehmomentes aus den Dimensionen der Windungen unmöglich. In dem vorliegenden Apparat haben die Windungen —■ in der Regel nur eine einzige — eine bestimmte geometrische Form, z. B. die eines langgestreckten Rechtecks. In diesem Falle schliefst sich die Berechnung an die bekannten einfachen Formeln an, welche man für einen unendlich langen, geradlinigen Draht erhalten würde.
