Bei Fahrzeugen mit einem Beifahrer-Airbag tritt das Problem auf, daß wegen der Zwangs-Auslösung des Beifahrer-Airbags bei Un fällen auch dann, wenn der Beifahrersitz nicht besetzt ist, Kindersitze auf dem Beifah rersitz nicht angebracht werden dürfen. Zur Lösung dieses Problems wird in der US-A- 6,040,637 ein mechanischer Schalter vorgesehen. Dieser Schalter kann mittels des Zündschlüssels von einer Airbag-"Ein"-Stellung in eine Airbag-"Aus"-Stellung zur Deak tivierung des Beifahrer-Airbags verstellt werden.Many of the vehicles on the market now include two or several airbags as standard. Dies ist mit dem Nachteil behaftet, daß im Falle eines Kindersitzes auf der Rückbank zwar der entsprechende Thorax-Airbag deaktiviert ist, der entsprechende Kopf-Airbag sowie der Thorax-Airbag und der Kopf-Airbag auf der anderen Fahrzeugseite für die übrigen Mit fahrer aber noch eine erhebliche Schutzfunktion ausüben würden. Vorzugsweise ist in diesem Speicherbereich der Speichereinrichtung des Air bag-Steuergerätes mindestens ein Steuerbit für jeden Airbag-Zündkreis vorgesehen. Vorzugsweise weist der Speicherbereich je nach Ausstattungsvariante, d. h. Anzahl der im Fahrzeug vorhandenen Airbags, 4, 5 oder 8 Bytes auf.
