Die Länge der kegeligen Hülsenenden ist jeweils durch die größte Wandstärke der Hülse bedingt. Dies bedeutet insofern schon eine Erschwerung, weil die Hülse, um die elektrische Leitfähigkeit der Verbindung nicht zu vermindern, den gleichen stromleitenden Querschnitt haben soll wie die Kabelleiter und infolgedessen stark auf den Leitern aufträgt. Außerdem vermindern die Kerben die elektrische Festigkeit der Muffe. Um diesen Einfluß auszuschalten und um gleichzeitig auch für die isolierende Bewicklung eine glatte Unterlage zu erhalten, wurde bisher ein Schirmblech angebracht, das aber, wenn es auch mechanisch genügend fest sein soll, die Hülsenstärke abermals nicht unbeträchtlich vergrößert. Man mußte daher die kegeligen Hülsenenden noch länger machen.
