Abstract

A method of forming a non-woven fabric having a pore size gradient, comprising: depositing thermoplastic fibers as a fabric on a foraminous shaped surface, said surface having a central zone and at least a peripheral zone such that said fibers in said central zone have less fiber alignment and a larger average pore size than the fibers in said at least one peripheral zone. 2A method of forming a non-woven fabric having a pore size gradient comprising: forming thermoplastic fibers by extruding a melted thermoplastic polymer resin through a melt blown matrix; providing a foraminous shaped surface, said surface has an inclined part having a vertex and at least one side, said vertex defines a central deposit zone and said at least one side defines at least a peripheral deposit zone; depositing said fibers in said central deposit zone whereby at least a part of said deposited fibers migrate downwards from said central deposit zone into said at least one peripheral zone so that the fibers in said central zone have less fiber alignment and a larger average pore size than the fibers in said at least one peripheral area; and separating said tissue from said surface.
