Description
Technical Field
The present invention relates to the field of vehicle protection systems. More particularly, the present invention relates to curtain airbags and curtain airbag assemblies for vehicles.
Background
The curtain airbag is generally mounted on a roof frame of a vehicle and extends in the front-rear direction of the vehicle. When a vehicle collides, the curtain airbag is inflated by the gas generator and expands along the side of the vehicle between the occupant and the side structure of the vehicle (e.g., side window, pillar, etc.), thereby providing protection to the head of the occupant.
The safety index (C-IASI) of China insurance automobile tests and evaluates the safety of the automobile. When tested, the curtain airbag of the vehicle inflated to support the dummy's head in cooperation with the driver airbag or the passenger airbag under conditions where the vehicle is subjected to a small offset overlap crash. However, the prior art inflatable curtains are not conducive to supporting the dummy's head due to limitations of other related piece designs. In particular, a portion of the curtain airbag near the a-pillar of the vehicle drifts toward a side of the curtain airbag, so as to fly out of the window, failing to provide reliable protection for the head.
Therefore, it is desirable to provide a curtain airbag capable of preventing lateral drift.

Drawings
Fig. 1 shows a curtain airbag according to an embodiment of the utility model.
Fig. 2 is a partially enlarged view of the curtain airbag of fig. 1.
Detailed Description
Specific embodiments according to the present invention will be described below with reference to the accompanying drawings. The following detailed description and drawings are included to illustrate the principles of the utility model, which is not to be limited to the preferred embodiments described, but is to be defined by the appended claims.
Fig. 1 shows a curtain airbag according to an embodiment of the present invention, and fig. 2 is a partially enlarged view of the curtain airbag of fig. 1. As shown in fig. 1 and 2, the curtain airbag includes an airbag main body 100, a receiving member 200, and a restraining member 300. The curtain airbag is configured to be filled with inflation gas by a gas generator to expand along a side of a vehicle between an occupant and a side structure of the vehicle (e.g., a side window, a pillar, etc.) at the time of a vehicle collision, thereby providing cushioning to the head of the occupant. The pillars may include an a pillar, a B pillar, and a C pillar, and may additionally include a D pillar.
In one example, the curtain airbag further includes a pull strap 400. One end of the pulling strap 400 is connected to the middle of the front end of the airbag main body 100 for providing a pulling force to the airbag main body 100. When the airbag main body 100 is inflated, the airbag main body 100 is prevented from being displaced toward the rear of the vehicle. The other end of the pull belt 400 is connected to the vehicle body through a fixing member 500.
The airbag body 100 includes an inner side and an outer side. When the airbag main body 100 is inflated, the inner side of the airbag main body 100 faces the occupant, and the outer side faces the side window. The airbag body 100 is typically made of two layers of flexible material (e.g., fabric and thin polymer) and may be divided into an inflatable region 110 and a non-inflatable region 120, such as by seams. For example, the seam may include one or more of stitches, welds, and/or adhesives.
The inflatable region 110 may be comprised of one or more regions in fluid communication. In one example, the inflatable region 110 includes a front inflatable region 111 and a rear inflatable region 112 in fluid communication. In the case of a curtain airbag deployment, the front inflatable region 111 may protect the head of a front passenger and the rear inflatable region 112 may protect the head of a rear passenger. For example, in the case of a vehicle having three a, B and C pillars, the front inflatable region 111, when inflated, is located between the front side window between the a and B pillars and the head of the occupant to cushion the driver's and co-driver's head, and the rear inflatable region 112, when inflated, is located between the rear side window between the B and C pillars and the head of the occupant to cushion the head of the rear passenger.
The non-inflatable region 120 includes an inner non-inflatable region 121 located at an interior of the inflatable region 110 and an outer non-inflatable region 122 located at an exterior of the inflatable region 110. The non-inflatable region 120 is located in the non-active area to reduce the volume of the chambers of the inflatable region 110. For example, the inner non-inflatable region 121 may be drop-shaped, circular, oval, etc. in order to reduce the stress on the inner non-inflatable region 121 in the inflated state of the curtain airbag, thereby reducing the risk of tearing. In one example, as shown in fig. 1, a curtain airbag can include a plurality of inner non-inflatable regions 121. Four inner non-inflatable regions 121 are located inside the front inflatable region 111 and one inner non-inflatable region 121 is located inside the rear inflatable region 112. It should be understood that the number of inner non-inflatable regions 121 is not limited thereto.
The pod 200 is secured to the inner non-inflatable region 121 and defines a channel. In one example, the receiving member 200 is a piece of fabric that may be secured to the inner non-inflatable region 121 by stitches 210. Two opposite ends of the fabric are secured to the inner non-inflatable region 121, respectively, to define a channel. For example, the fabric may be square.
One end of the restraint 300 is fixed to the outer non-inflatable region 122, and the other end of the restraint 300 can be fixed to the body of the vehicle through the passage. In one example, the restraint 300 is a cable made of a material that lacks flexibility. For example, one end of the cable may be fixed to the outer non-inflatable region 122 by a suture, and the other end of the cable may be fixed to the vehicle body by a fixing member 500 for the pull strap 400. The cable can move back and forth within the channel of the receiver 200.
According to the curtain airbag of the present invention, when the airbag main body 100 is inflated, the restraint members 300 are tightened to provide support to the airbag main body 100, thereby preventing a portion of the corresponding inflatable region 110 from drifting sideways.
In one example, the receiving member 200 may be externally secured to the inner non-inflatable region 121 and one end of the restraint member 300 may be externally secured to the outer non-inflatable region 122. As a result, when the airbag main body 100 inflates, support is provided at the outside of the airbag main body 100, thereby preventing a portion of the corresponding inflatable region 110 from drifting out of the window to prevent the head of the occupant from being injured.
In one example, the pod 200 may be secured to the interior of the front inflatable region 111. One end of the restraint 300 is fixed to a portion of the outer non-inflatable region 122 between the front inflatable region 111 and the rear inflatable region 112, and the other end of the restraint 300 is fixed to an a-pillar of the vehicle. It should be understood that the present invention is not limited thereto. The fixing positions of the receiving member 200 and the restraining member 300 can be determined according to the specific requirements of different working conditions.
In one example, one receiving member 200 is secured to a corresponding inner non-inflatable region 121. It should be understood that the curtain airbag may also include a plurality of receivers 200, each receiver 200 being secured to a corresponding inner non-inflatable region 121. One end of the restraining member 300 is fixed to the outer non-inflatable region 122, and the other end of the restraining member 300 is fixed to the vehicle body through the plurality of receiving members 200 in sequence.
The curtain airbag assembly includes the curtain airbag of the above embodiment and a gas generator that inflates the curtain airbag. Referring again to fig. 1, the curtain airbag is provided with a projection portion obliquely upward at a middle position in the longitudinal direction of the upper side thereof. The distal end of the projection is provided with an opening for insertion of a gas generator (not shown).
As described above, although the exemplary embodiments of the present invention have been described in the description with reference to the drawings, the present invention is not limited to the above-described embodiments, and the scope of the present invention should be defined by the claims and their equivalents.
