Fig. 2 is a schematic circuit block diagram of the multimedia digital book of the present invention. As shown in fig. 2, the main processor 9 is a low power consumption "system on a chip (SoC)" chip with multimedia function for use in a handheld device. Is a control center of the whole machine, and is integrated with a plurality of multimedia components.
In recent years, SoC chips have been developed rapidly, and various major IC manufacturers (e.g., Intel, Marvell, Samsung, TI, Amd, Freescale, Atmel, Sharp, Epson, etc.) have introduced their own SoC chips based on multimedia and communication. Among them, S3C2410 and S3C2440 of Samsung corporation, PXA255 and PXA270 of Intel corporation, PXA300/310/320 of PXA3XX series (Monahans) of Marvell corporation based on the third-generation XScale technology of Intel corporation, and MC9328MX21 and mcmix 31 of Freescale corporation are typical representatives of such chips.
The SoC chip has a stronger function, and although the processing speed is insufficient, the SoC chip is close to the CPU speed of the current notebook computer, and the overall function of the SoC chip is much better than that of the CPU of the notebook computer. Most SoC chips are integrated with many peripheral circuits necessary for forming a multimedia computer system, such as a memory management circuit, an external memory card interface circuit, an LCD controller, an audio codec interface, USB host and slave device interfaces, a network interface, a digital camera interface, an infrared interface, a bluetooth interface, a keyboard interface, and the like. Some also integrate memory, audio codec, etc. specific modules on the chip. Recently, the newly introduced SoC chip even integrates a multimedia coprocessor, so that the processing capability of the SoC chip on audio and video data is better than that of a notebook computer. When the chip is used for forming a multimedia computer, a computer system which can meet the requirements of processing data such as characters, images, multimedia and the like and network communication during outdoor office work can be formed only by additionally adding a small amount of peripheral chips such as a memory and the like. Because the design target of the chips is to be used in the handheld devices, great efforts are made in the aspects of process and power supply management, and the power consumption of the chips is much smaller than that of a CPU (central processing unit) of a notebook computer. In addition, the system saves a display card, a network card, a hard disk, an optical drive, a fan and other large parts, and the volume and the power consumption of the whole machine enable the system to become real mobile office equipment.
According to statistics, most of computer functions used outdoors are not processing of characters, images, audio and video signals and network communication, and the functions can be completely met by the SoC chip. In order to reduce the cost and save resources, an embedded operating system (such as microsoft Windows CE, Palm OS of Palm corporation, etc.) specially developed for Palm devices can be used. Such operating systems do not include a large number of functions that are not needed in the outdoor activity, which greatly reduces the amount of code for the operating system, and consumes very little system resources such as memory at runtime. This leads to a still further reduction in overall cost and power consumption. In specific implementation, the main processor is selected to meet the requirements of processing characters, images, audio and video signals and network communication which are frequently used by people in outdoor work, and software and hardware resources are saved as much as possible by using the 'sufficiency' principle. Under the aim, for the convenience of use, the whole notebook is made to be as large as a common notebook, and the size of the whole notebook is basically between 32K and B5. The trouble that the notebook computer is too heavy and inconvenient to carry and the palm computer screen is too small for recording and reading is solved. The computer box has the advantages that most computer functions required in outdoor work can be met, and the computer box is convenient to carry and simple to use. The convenience degree of the method is the same as that of using ordinary paper notebooks and books, but the method has a natural difference in information processing.
Because of the wide application prospect of SoC chips, SoC chips with higher and higher performance-price ratio are continuously showing new ones. It is expected that in the near future, notebook computers and even desktop computers will gradually adopt such chips to replace the existing simple-function CPU.
The program memory 2 in fig. 2 is used for storing control software executable by the main processor 9, and the main processor 9 controls the implementation of various functions according to the pre-designed software; the access speed of the synchronous dynamic memory 3 is very high, and the current part of the execution software rolls in and rolls out to accelerate the execution speed of the program; the data storage 4 is used for storing data required by users, such as electronic books, video programs, MP3 songs and the like; the expansion memory card socket 106 is used to insert a replaceable memory card to expand data storage capacity.
The lcd 101 is an important user interface and is directly connected to the main processor 9, and may be selected from a black and white screen, a monochrome screen with gray scale, or a color screen. The liquid crystal display may be provided with a touch screen which is a resistive or capacitive touch screen and/or a writing pad which is a wired or wireless writing pad comprising a stylus and a conductive screen plate mounted on the back of the display.
The external microphone interface 108, the internal microphone 107, the external speaker 12, and the headphone interface 110 are connected to the main processor 9 through an audio CODEC 8 (CODEC). The audio codec 8 encodes or compresses the audio signal input by the external microphone or the internal microphone 107 into data stream with format of ADPCM, MP3, etc. during recording, and stores the data stream into the data memory 4 under the control of the main processor 9; during playing, under the control of the main processor 9, the encoded or compressed data is obtained from the data memory 4, decoded or decompressed and restored into analog audio signals, and then output from the external speaker 12 or the earphone interface 109.
The power supply 19 in the figure is a general lithium ion battery for a mobile phone, and generally, can continuously operate for more than ten hours with a capacity of about 3000 mAh.
The digital camera 6 is used for taking interesting pictures or recording, compressing sensed images or video signals under the control of the main processor 9 and storing the compressed images or video signals into the data memory 4, and can be taken out by the main processor 9 at any time to be displayed on the liquid crystal display 101 when needed.
It should be noted that fig. 2 is only a typical circuit block diagram of the present invention, and there are many optional combinations in practice. For example, the program memory 2 may be integrated with the data memory 4; the synchronous dynamic memory 3 is sometimes incorporated into the main processor 9; it is also possible to delete some of the components or add other components as needed.
