Abstract

The present invention relates to a kit comprising elements for making decorative adhesive tapes. The kit includes: a) at least one piece of adhesive tape comprising a backing, an adhesive layer on one side of the backing, and an absorbent pad secured to the adhesive layer; and b) at least one decorative element, It's an adhesive sticker or a tattoo sticker. The decorative element includes a base, a decorative pattern on the base and an adhesive layer. Decorative elements can be firmly attached to the upper surface of the tape. The invention relates to a kit comprising elements for making decorative adhesive tapes, in particular adhesive tapes for treating wounds of children.

Background of the invention

US Patent 4,094,316 discloses an adhesive tape with a reusable sheet applique. The decals are pre-attached to the tape, preferably cotton, and are about the same size as the underlying tape.

US Patent No. 4,285,338 discloses an adhesive tape with a hard plastic shell secured to its outer surface. The role of the shell is to protect the wound from external forces. The shell can be made into various novel configurations.

Lisa Frank Inc. of Tucson, AZ sells a product that includes a resealable plastic container in a blister pack. The openable and closable plastic container contains pieces of decorative adhesive tape individually wrapped in known manner. The decoration on the pre-decorated tape covers substantially the entire surface of the tape backing. The tape itself is about 72mm long and 19mm wide. The decorative pattern is about 72mm long and 16mm wide. There are also 2 decorative adhesive stickers inside the openable container. Neither the instructions nor the illustrations on the blister packs tell the user that these decorative stickers are intended to be attached to the tape. Moreover, the adhesive stickers in the above products are made of paper, which does not fit well with the matching tape. If it is pasted on the matching tape, it will be easily peeled off under the general wear and tear conditions of using the tape.

It is therefore one of the objects of the present invention to provide a kit which is especially suitable for children, enabling them to personalize the tapes they want to use.

It is also an object of the present invention to provide a decorative tape kit that enables users to decorate their tape at the point of use.

It is also an object of the present invention to provide a decoration for adhesive tape which, once applied to the adhesive tape, is firmly bonded thereto.

It is also an object of the present invention to provide an adhesive tape kit which includes flexible decorative elements capable of conforming to the movement of the taped area of the body.

It is also an object of the present invention to provide a tape kit for making decorative tapes in which the decorative elements remain adhered to the tape even in wet environments.

It is also an object of the present invention to provide a tape kit providing play elements for children using tape.

It is also an object of the present invention to provide an adhesive tape kit suitable for treating children.

The above and other objects are achieved by the decorative tape kit of the present invention.

Summary of the invention

The present invention is a kit containing the elements for making decorative adhesive tape. This kit includes:

a) at least one piece of adhesive tape comprising a backing, an adhesive layer on one side of the backing, and an absorbent pad secured to the adhesive layer; and b) at least one decorative element that is an adhesive sticker or Tattoo stickers. The decorative element includes a base, a decorative pattern on the base and an adhesive layer. Decorative elements can be firmly attached to the upper surface of the tape. In said kit box, however, the decorative element is separate from the tape and is not fixed to it.

Detailed description of the invention

There is at least one adhesive tape in the kit of the present invention, but it is better with multiple adhesive tapes. Figures 1-3 show adhesive tapes that may be used in the kit of the present invention. Tape 1 includes a backing 2, an adhesive layer 3, an absorbent pad 4 for wound contact, and a pair of protective release tabs 5 and 6.

As shown, the substrate 2 is rectangular and has a first major or upper surface 31 and a second major or lower surface 32 . Substrate 2 can also take other shapes, such as square or circular. The adhesive layer 3, which can be any well-known adhesive material for adhesive tapes, is located on the lower surface 32 of the backing 2.

The absorbent pad 4 is fixed on the lower surface of the adhesive tape 1 by the adhesive layer 3 . Absorbent pads are generally nonwoven materials made of rayon fibers or polyester or fibers or such blends. Those skilled in the art can easily find that other fibers, such as cotton or polyolefin fibers, can also be used to make the absorbent pad.

As shown, the absorbent pad 4 is located at the center of the two ends of the adhesive tape, and its two sides coincide with the longitudinal edges of the backing 2 . The tape can be of other constructions known in the art. For example, the adhesive tape 1 may be of an "island structure", ie, the ends and sides of the absorbent pad 4 on the backing are all within a certain distance of the adjacent ends and edges of the backing 2 .

The tape 1 also has a pair of adhesive protective release tabs 5 and 6 made of, for example, paper coated with a silicone release material. The release tab can also be made of a low surface energy plastic film such as polyethylene or polystyrene, and the film can be coated with a release material such as silicone as needed. It will be appreciated that the release material-coated surfaces of the haptics 5 and 6 are in contact with the adhesive layer 3 and that the release coating on the haptics 5 and 6 is peeled off to expose the adhesive layer so that the adhesive tape is applied to When on the skin, the adhesive layer 3 is left on the tape backing 2 without remaining on the release tab.

The tapes used in the kits of the present invention are preferably each individually packaged between two sheets of material (eg, paper) bonded along the edges.

The kit box of the present invention can be equipped with multiple tapes of the same size. Alternatively, tapes of different sizes can be stocked to treat wounds of different sizes.

The backing of the tape can be selected from plastic film, foam, fabric, nonwoven or braid. The backing may also consist of two or more of the above materials, for example a composite of film and nonwoven. The adhesive tape in the kit of the present invention is preferably a plastic film backing. If manufactured from film or foam, it is preferable to perforate the tape backing.

Materials suitable for making tape backings include: polyethylene, polyurethane, polyvinyl chloride and plasticized polyvinyl chloride. Preference is given to polyvinyl chloride and plasticized polyvinyl chloride, especially plasticized polyvinyl chloride.

The adhesive layer of the tape in the kit of the present invention may be any adhesive material known in the tape art to be suitable for skin application. Examples include acrylic emulsion adhesives, solvent-based acrylic adhesives, acrylic hot melt adhesives, styrene-olefin copolymers such as styrene-isopropylene-styrene block copolymers, natural rubber, and silicone adhesives. Among them, acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesives, especially acrylic emulsion pressure-sensitive adhesives are preferred.

The kit according to the invention also includes at least one, preferably a plurality of decorative elements 11 . They are selected from adhesive stickers and tattoo stickers. Of course, adhesive stickers are preferred.

Figures 4, 5 and 6 show the adhesive stickers used in the kit of the present invention. Adhesive stickers are usually attached on a piece of release paper 15 . The sticker has a base 16 . Decorative pattern 14 is typically printed on upper surface 17 of substrate 16 . An adhesive layer 13 is provided on the other surface of the substrate opposite to the pattern, namely the lower surface 18 . The surface of the peeling paper 15 and the adhesive sticker has a coating, which can make the adhesive sticker peel off from the paper, while the adhesive is still bonded on the adhesive sticker.

FIG. 4 shows that there are many adhesive stickers on the release paper 10 . The sticker or decorative element 11 is generally produced by printing a decorative pattern 14 on a surface 17 of a substrate 16 . Each adhesive sticker is surrounded by imprints 12 around, so that each adhesive sticker can be peeled off from the peeling paper 15 separately. The release paper is bent near the impression 12, and the adhesive sticker can be peeled off from the release paper. Such bending can cause the adhesive sticker to lift away from the release paper and separate from the adjacent portion 19 of the substrate 16 which is the adjacent adjacent portion of the adhesive sticker 11 . Once the edge of the adhesive sticker is exposed and separated from the release paper, the adhesive sticker can be pinched with fingers, peeled entirely from the release paper, and then applied to the upper surface 31 of the adhesive tape 1 in the kit of the present invention.

In another embodiment shown in cross-sectional view 6, the release paper 15 of the sheet with the sticker does not have an intermediate base portion 19 surrounding the sticker.

As shown in Figure 4, an almost infinite number of patterns and graphics can be carried on a single decorative element release paper. Examples of graphics include motion graphics, animals, celestial bodies, geometric shapes, letters, words, flowers, animated figures, cars, birds, insects, etc.

Decorative tapes made with the kits of the present invention should have the following desirable properties: First, they should be durable. That is, once the decorative element is applied to the surface of the tape, it should be securely affixed thereto. Preferably, the fit of the decorative element to the tape is as strong in a wet environment as it is in a dry environment. The decorative elements should not be easily abraded from the tape and should not be easily peeled off. Second, the decorative tape and its components should be soft and conformable so that when the tape is applied to the joint and the joint flexes and flexes repeatedly, the decorative element will not detach. The present invention carefully designs the decorative elements and selects their materials, and pays attention to the matching of the decorative elements and the matching adhesive tape in the kit box of the present invention, thereby meeting the above-mentioned requirements.

The substrate 16 of the decorative element may be selected from plastic films comprising polymers such as polyethylene, polypropylene, polyester, polyvinyl chloride or plasticized polyvinyl chloride, metallized plastic films and metal foils. Preferably, the substrate is a plastic film comprising polyvinyl chloride or a plasticized polyvinyl chloride polymer. Preferably, the substrate is a plastic film comprising plasticized polyvinyl chloride.

In order for the decorative element and the tape to have substantially the same flexibility in use, the base of the decorative element is preferably of the same material as the backing of the tape. Preferably, both the base of the decorative element and the backing of the tape comprise plasticized polyvinyl chloride.

To optimize the performance of decorative tapes, in addition to material selection, care must also be taken in selecting the thickness of the substrate of the decorative element. Substrate 16 should have a thickness of about 0.005-0.006 inches, preferably about 0.002-0.004 inches. The thinner it is, the harder it is for the decorative element to come off the release paper. Too thick and the decorative element loses its flexibility and does not conform.

The choice of adhesive material on the decorative element depends on the materials of the tape backing and the decorative element substrate. The adhesive is a pressure-sensitive adhesive, preferably selected from styrene-olefin copolymers such as acrylic emulsions, solvent-based acrylic adhesives, acrylic hot-melt adhesives, styrene-isopropylene-styrene block copolymers, natural Rubber and silicone adhesives. When both the tape backing and the decorative element substrate comprise plasticized polyvinyl chloride, the adhesive is preferably an acrylic pressure sensitive adhesive, most preferably an acrylic emulsion pressure sensitive adhesive.

The amount of the adhesive layer in the decorative element is about 10-100 grams dry weight per square meter of surface of the decorative element. Preferably, the adhesive layer is used in the decorative element in an amount of about 20-50 g dry weight/ ^m2 surface area.

The size of the decorative element is preferably such that it can be fully contained on at least one piece of tape in the kit box without protruding beyond the edge of the tape.

The adhesive tape used in the kits of the present invention is preferably essentially undecorated, that is, the tape backing is devoid of decorative patterns on the decorative elements. The backing of the tape can be transparent, translucent or opaque. Regular patterns, such as cross-hatch patterns, can also be printed on the tape backing. The tape backing is preferably transparent. The advantage of using decorative elements on scotch tape is that it creates the impression of a tattoo on the surface of the skin.

Opaque materials are preferred for the base of the decorative element because an opaque base will more "show" or accentuate the color of the decorative pattern on the base.

The kit of the present invention is preferably equipped with a plurality of decorative elements and a plurality of adhesive tapes in an openable and closable container. The material of the container can be eg paper, cardboard, metal and plastic.

The kit of the present invention should have instructions stating that the decorative element is or can be used with a matching adhesive tape as a decorative tape. Such instructions may be in the form of graphics, text or a combination thereof. The instructions may be located on the outside of the container, on the back 20 of the decorative element release paper 15, or otherwise attached separately within the kit box, or in any of these locations.

Another form of decorative elements is "tattooing", as already mentioned. Figure 7 shows a cross-sectional view of the tattoo. As shown in Figure 7, the tattoo includes a transparent plastic film 25 that can be peeled off from the tattoo. Adjacent the film 25 is an adhesive layer 26 . The other side adjacent to the adhesive layer is a base layer 27 on which a pattern is printed. The base layer 27 is supported by a carrier paper 28 . In use, the transparent plastic film 25 is peeled off, and the remainder is attached to the substantially plain adhesive tape through the adhesive film 26 . Then, the lower surface 29 of the carrier paper 28 is wetted, and after a while, the carrier paper 28 is peeled off from the tattoo.

Example

One decorative adhesive patch was made from 0.003 inch thick white opaque plasticized polyvinyl chloride film (JK4709W film from Occidental Chemical Corp. Burlington, NJ). An acrylic emulsion polymer was applied to the surface of a silicone coated release paper. The acrylic emulsion contains a polymer based on 2-ethylhexyl acrylate (>80%) and contains a small amount (<20%) of vinyl acetate and other monomers. The emulsion contains about 50% solids. Suitable emulsion polymers are well known in the art and are readily available. In this regard, one such polymer that can be used is the acrylic emulsion pressure sensitive adhesive AE1200 from the Chemical Division of Avery Dennison, Mill Hall, PA. The emulsion was spread on release paper at 35 g dry weight/m ² . The volatile components were evaporated in an oven and the plasticized polyvinyl chloride film was laminated to the adhesive on release paper to form a release paper-adhesive-film laminate. The film surface of the laminate was printed with a decorative color pattern as shown in Figure 4 with UV curable ink. After the decorative pattern is printed, brush a layer of varnish on the surface to further improve the fastness of the pattern. After UV curing, use a scribe knife to scribe under appropriate pressure. The blade arrangement of the scribe knife matches the pattern printed on the laminate. The height of the blade is adjusted to penetrate the thickness of the substrate but not the release paper.

The adhesion of the decorative element to the adhesive tape is determined as follows:

The adhesive stickers prepared above were applied to Jonhson & Jonhson Consumer Products Company (a division of Jonhson & Jonhson Consumer Products Inc.) clear BAND-AID® tape. The backing of these tapes contains a plasticized polyvinyl chloride film. Apply the tape to the knuckles of one hand. As a comparative example, the aforementioned Lisa Frank, Inc. adhesive stickers and tape were applied to the knuckles of the other hand. The fingers of both hands move as usual. Shortly after the test began, the outer edges of the Lisa Frank, Inc. adhesive patches began to separate from the tape, indicating that these adhesive patches failed prematurely. In contrast, the adhesive stickers in the inventive kit described in the previous examples remained in place with no sign of delamination from the underlying tape.

Adhesion of the decorative element to the adhesive tape in a humid environment was evaluated as follows:

Five experiments were performed. In each experiment, adhesive stickers were applied to Jonhson & Jonhson's BAND-AID(R) tape to decorate the tape. Sixteen participants applied test tape to their fingers. The participants then dipped their hands in soapy water at 100°F for 10 minutes while moving their fingers. The adhesion of the adhesive sticker to the tape after such immersion is rated on the following scale:

1 = About 1-15% of the adhesive patch is still attached

2 = About 16-30% of the adhesive patch is still attached

3 = About 31-45% of the adhesive patch is still attached

4 = About 46-60% of the adhesive patch is still attached

5 = About 61-75% of the adhesive patch is still attached

6=About 76-90% of the adhesive patch is still attached

7=The entire sticker is still attached.

The adhesive stickers used in the above tests are shown in Table 1, and the results of the adhesion test are shown in Table 2.

The data in the table shows that excellent wet environment adhesion was obtained with the decorative adhesive stickers of the preceding examples. On the contrary, the adhesion force of the prior art adhesive stickers is very poor.

Figure 8 shows a top view of the kit box of the present invention contained in an openable and closable carton. The carton 35 has side flaps 36 and 37 with inserts 39 and top panels 38, 39 which fold into the carton when the carton is closed. The kit box includes tape 40 individually wrapped. The kit box also includes a plastic bag 41 glued to the inside surface of the carton along edges 43 and 44 . In the bag is folded release paper with many sticky stickers 42 on it. The plastic bag has impressions along heights 45 and 46 in FIG. 8 . These impressions on the bag allow easy removal of the bag from the carton. There are text and pattern instructions on the outside of the carton, indicating that there are tapes and decorative adhesive stickers inside the carton, and the adhesive stickers are used to decorate the tape.

Claims (25)

1. A kit containing elements for making a decorative tape, including: a) at least one piece of adhesive tape comprising a backing, an adhesive layer on one side of the backing, and an absorbent pad secured to the adhesive layer; and b) at least one decorative element is an adhesive sticker or a tattoo sticker; The decorative element comprises a substrate, a decorative pattern on the substrate and an adhesive layer, the decorative element can be fixed firmly on the upper surface of the adhesive tape, and in said kit box, the decorative element is separate from the adhesive tape and is not fixed on the adhesive tape above. 2. The kit of claim 1, wherein the adhesive tapes further have peel tabs, and wherein each adhesive tape in said kit is individually packaged. 8. 10. The kit according to claim 1, wherein said decorative element is an adhesive sticker. 9. 2. The kit box of claim 1, including a plurality of decorative elements. 10. 9. The kit of claim 9, wherein the plurality of decorative elements are adhered to a sheet of release paper. 11. The kit box according to claim 1, wherein the substrate of the decorative element is selected from plastic films comprising polyethylene, polypropylene, polyester, polyvinyl chloride or plasticized polyvinyl chloride, metallized plastic films and metal foil. 12. 11. The kit according to claim 11, wherein the substrate of said decorative element is a plastic film comprising polyvinyl chloride or plasticized polyvinyl chloride. 13. 11. The kit of claim 11, wherein the base plastic film of the decorative element is 0.0005-0.006 inches thick. 14. 11. The kit of claim 11, wherein the base plastic film of the decorative element is 0.002-0.004 inches thick. 15. The kit according to claim 1, wherein the adhesive layer of the decorative element contains a compound selected from the group consisting of acrylic emulsion, solvent-based acrylic compound, acrylic hot melt, styrene-olefin copolymer, natural rubber and silicon Adhesives for oxane adhesives. 16.
