Abstract
The application discloses a dose management device comprising a cap with a dose regimen marker. The dose regimen indicia has information related to dose frequency. The dosage regimen indicia represent morning, afternoon, daytime and nighttime. The cap includes a first layer having a cavity, a second layer disposed in the cavity and having a dosage regimen indicia on an upper surface thereof, and a third layer having an opening surrounding the cavity of the first layer. The first layer, the second layer and the third layer are connected together by a rotating frame. The rotating frame is configured to enable a user to rotate the third layer 45 degrees to cover a portion of the dose-regimen indicia including information related to a frequency at which a drug is to be removed from the container and to expose a portion of the dose-regimen indicia including information related to a subsequent frequency.
Description
Technical Field
The present invention relates to a dose management device, more particularly to a dose management device comprising a cap (lid) with a dose regimen marker (dosage regimen indicia).
Background
Problems associated with multiple or zero dosing are well known in the healthcare arts. Many medical conditions rely heavily on careful administration, for example in the fields of anticoagulation, seizures, diabetes, anesthetics, antibiotics and cardiac drugs. Incorrect drug doses can lead to resistance to the body and pathogens, neither of which is in line with the best benefit of the patient. Another very common problem is that the time interval for a person to take a medication is not proper. Persons affected by disease, medication, or simply memory loss may take overdose. These very common problems can negatively impact the health of the patient. In fact, every year someone dies from misuse. It is therefore highly desirable to provide a tool to assist them in taking medications in a prescribed manner.
A variety of such devices have been designed in the past. However, none of them include a dose management device that can solve the above-mentioned problems.
The applicant believes that the relevant reference corresponds to the united states patent document of steve L Wei Na, US 6,545,592, which describes a medication reminder. Wei Na discloses a medication reminder device having a cap unit (cap unit) with a timer dial, and a start and reset button with a light. The timer dial may be used to select a time period between alarm signals. The cap unit is internally provided with electronics carrying a power supply to generate a preferably visible alarm signal using a key light, sound emitting circuitry and vibration mechanism. The cap unit is connected to a pocket container having a compartment for storing pills. The pocket container has an adapter cap for connecting the assembled device to a standard prescription container. However, the medication reminding apparatus disclosed in the reference provided by Wei Na is complicated in structure and is not liked by people who are familiar with the use of electronic devices (for example, the elderly).
The applicant believes that another related reference corresponds to U.S. patent No. US,6,227,371 to Zhu Li Song Dijiao, which describes a medical container and system. The reference provided by Song discloses a container system having a tactile identification marking feature on its container lid. The initially dispensed medicament is placed in a larger container and the medicament is dispensed from the container to the patient. The larger container has tactile indicia identifying the medicament therein. The tactile indicia includes at least a first letter of a medication name. In addition to the letters of the medication name, the tactile indicia may include braille symbols for the letters, as well as unique indicia for indicating the prescribed dosage. The system may also include a separate printed chart listing indicia for each medication used by a properly sighted caregiver. However, the reference provided by Song lacks resolution of the problem of multiple dosing, especially for persons suffering from diseases, drugs or simply memory loss.
Some other references similar to the protective body of this patent provide some more or less complex features that do not solve the above-mentioned problems in an efficient and economical manner. Thus, none of these patents show the novel features of the present invention.
Disclosure of Invention
It is an object of the present invention to provide a dose management device comprising a cap with dose regimen indicia.
It is a further object of the present invention to provide a dose management device with a unique, clearly visible, human readable and reproducible (human readable and representation) dose schedule.
It is a further object of the present invention to provide a dosage management device that is economical, simple, convenient and easy to use.
It is a further object of the present invention to provide a dose management device comprising a cover with written, abbreviated and/or graphically represented dose information, printed or imprinted (Print).
It is a further object of the present invention to provide a cap attachable to a container, the cap comprising a dose-regimen-mark on its upper surface, wherein the mark comprises information related to the dose frequency (dosage frequency).
It is a further object of the present invention to provide a cap comprising a first layer having a cavity, a second layer disposed within the cavity, the second layer comprising a dose-scheme indicia imprinted on an upper surface, and a third layer surrounding the cavity, the third layer comprising an opening; wherein each layer is connected together by a swivel mount and the swivel mount is configured to enable a user to swivel the third layer 45 degrees to cover at least a portion of the indicia including information related to the frequency at which a medicament is to be removed from the container and to expose at least a portion of the indicia including information related to a subsequent frequency.
Additional objects of the invention will be set forth in the description which follows, and in part will be obvious from the description, or may be learned by practice of the invention.

FIG. 2 schematically illustrates an isometric view of a cap of an embodiment of the invention, wherein the cap is shown including a dose-regimen indicia;
FIG. 3 schematically illustrates a cross-sectional view of a cap of an embodiment of the present invention, wherein the cap is shown as including a first layer, a second layer, and a third layer coupled together by a swivel mount;
FIG. 4 schematically illustrates a perspective view of a second layer of an embodiment of the present invention, wherein the second layer is shown to include at least two apertures and dose-regimen indicia; and
fig. 5 schematically shows a perspective view of a third layer of another embodiment of the invention, wherein the third layer is shown comprising openings.
Detailed Description
Referring now to the drawings, in which the present invention is generally indicated by the reference numeral 10, it is observed that there is a dose management device 10, including a cap 12. The cap 12 has dose regimen indicia 32 to assist a patient or user in administering a prescribed dose of medication at a prescribed time. The cover 12 helps the patient maintain a regular day and/or night dosing schedule.
In one embodiment, the lid 12 is adapted to be removably attached to the container 14. The cap 12 includes a dose-regimen indicia 32 on an upper surface thereof. The dose regimen indicia 32 includes information relating to the frequency of doses. In one embodiment, the dosage regimen indicia 32 represents morning, afternoon, daytime, or nighttime. In another embodiment, the dosage regimen indicia 32 is a graphical representation of morning, afternoon, daytime, or nighttime. In one embodiment, words representing daytime or nighttime may be imprinted in at least one language (including, but not limited to, english, spanish, braille). In one embodiment, the dosage regimen indicia 32 includes a graphical representation of the sun and moon for indicating the morning, afternoon, daytime or nighttime. In addition, language indicating morning, afternoon, daytime or nighttime may be printed on the cover. The dose regimen indicia 32 may be different if the user does not need to take the medication both during the day and during the night. The following example may be used to understand how a user's experience would be if they took medication only during the daytime or nighttime. In an alternative embodiment, for example, if the user is taking a dose only in the daytime, an indication of expiration of the morning or daytime dose may be seen. The user may then rotate the cap 12 to dispense the medicament, thereby producing a first 45 degree rotation. Once the medication is removed, the user may again rotate the lid 12 45 degrees to close the lid 12. Here, the second closed position will not display a dose regimen indicia 32 indicating expiration of a night dose, but rather will display the daily dose that will be taken again in the open in text or picture form. Therefore, the invention can be used by users taking medicines in daytime and at night, and also can be used by users taking medicines in daytime or at night. In addition, the cover 12 may be made to glow in the dark. The dose regimen indicia 32 may also be illuminated in the dark. Thus, the user can easily read the cap 12 and/or the dose regimen indicia 32 during the night.
The cover 12 comprises at least two layers connected to each other by a rotation mechanism such as a rotating frame. The rotation mechanism is configured to rotate the cap 12 forty-five degrees (45 degrees) to remove the medicament from the container. The rotation mechanism is further configured to rotate forty-five degrees (90 degrees total) again to close the container. The 90 degree rotation is configured to provide a passageway for withdrawing medication and to cover at least a portion of the dose regimen indicia 32, the at least a portion of the dose regimen indicia 32 including information regarding the frequency of withdrawal of medication from the container.
In one embodiment, the cover 12 includes at least three layers that are connected to one another. The at least three layers include a first layer 18, a second layer 17, and a third layer 16. The edge 22 of the first layer 18 extends upwardly to form a cavity 24. The second layer 17 is arranged within the cavity 24 of the first layer 18 and comprises dose-regimen indicia 32 on its upper surface, wherein the dose-regimen indicia 32 comprises information related to the frequency of doses. The third layer 16 surrounds the cavity 24 of the first layer 18 and includes an opening 26. The first layer 18, the second layer 17 and the third layer 16 are parallel to each other. The first layer 18, the second layer 17 and the third layer 16 are connected to each other by a rotation mechanism. The rotation mechanism includes a rotation frame 30. The rotational frame 30 is configured to enable a user to rotate the third layer 16 45 degrees to cover at least a portion of the dose-regimen indicia 32 including information related to the frequency of drug removal from the container and to expose at least a portion of the dose-regimen indicia 32 including information related to a subsequent frequency. Thus, after a user takes each dose, they can rotate the cap 12 to indicate the next available dose and be alerted to take the dose at the appropriate time.
In one embodiment, the second layer 17 includes at least two apertures 28 to dispense the medicament. In another embodiment, first layer 18 further includes channels 29 as seen in FIG. 3. The channels 29, holes 28 and openings 26 on the first, second and third layers 18, 17 and 16 are aligned to dispense the medicament within the container 14. In addition, the edge 22 of the first layer 18 extends downwardly to form a wall 20 that is secured to the edge of the container 14. The cap 12 further includes a lock 36 located at each forty-five degree (45 degree) rotational position of the cap 12. The locking member 36 is configured to lock the lid 12 after each 45 degree rotation. The cap 12 may be manufactured to fit all existing prescription vials. It may simply be screwed onto the containers or it may be connected to the containers by any other means known in the art. In another embodiment, the lid 12 includes a gripping groove 34 along the outside of the wall 20 to facilitate opening. The gripping grooves 34 may assist the user in applying force to the cap 12 to squeeze the sides of the cap 12 and twist the cap 12, thereby rotating the cap 12 to dispense the medicament. Thus, this prevents young children from accessing any medications that may be found in the vial, as they do not easily open the vial.
In one embodiment, the dose regimen indicia 32 represents a dose of a drug (e.g., a quantity of a pill, a quantity of a liquid, etc.). In one embodiment of the present invention, the dose regimen indicia 32 may be illuminated in the dark. In one embodiment, the cover 12 is made of a plastic material that is inexpensive to produce or purchase. In another embodiment, the cover 12 is made of a material selected from the group consisting of polycarbonate, polyethylene terephthalate, polypropylene, polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride, and mixtures thereof. In one embodiment, the cover 12 is configured to glow in the dark. In one embodiment, the cover 12 is circular. In one embodiment, the lid 12 may be 0.5 inches tall, 2 inches long, and 2 inches wide. In one embodiment, the shape, size and material of the cover 12 may vary depending on the needs of the end user. In one embodiment, the dose management device 10 includes one or more caps 12 of different sizes. In another embodiment, the dose management device 10 includes one or more caps 12 of the same size. In one embodiment, the cap 12 may be secured to an existing pill container.
In one embodiment, the dose management device 10 or product is sterilized prior to packaging in a polyvinyl chloride plastic bag, heat sealed to protect the contents. A number of individually packaged products can then be placed in corrugated cardboard self-shipping cartons (corrugated cardboard self-shipping cartons) for ease of transportation and storage. A self-adhesive label may be applied to each carton to identify the product.
Advantageously, the cover 12 is imprinted or printed with dosage information in the form of text, abbreviations and/or graphic representations. The present invention enables a user or patient to take a medicine at an appropriate time of day. In addition, the ability to move the cover 12 to a different position after each dose to cover/indicate the frequency of administration enables the user to effectively and conveniently follow the instructions of the doctor or practitioner. Furthermore, the graphical representation enables any user to understand the dosage information without language barriers.
The invention may be used in pharmaceutical companies, care centers or people who wish to take medicines at the right time of day. In addition, the cover 12 may incorporate braille to aid visually impaired people. The dose management device 10 is particularly attractive to elderly people because it is often difficult for these people to remember which medications to take at certain time intervals of the day. The invention further comprises a simple and convenient means for clearly indicating when the next predetermined dose is to be dispensed. Furthermore, taking the right amount of medication at the right time will ensure that there is the right amount of medication in the system. This will help the patient to gain maximum benefit. Patients can avoid medication errors, such as premature medication or missed medication. Furthermore, the use of symbols and braille may assist disabled or visually impaired persons in using the dose management device 10.
The foregoing description presents a best understanding of the objects and advantages of the present invention. The inventive concept of the present invention may be made in different embodiments. It is to be understood that all matters disclosed in this application are to be interpreted in an illustrative and not a limiting sense.
INDUSTRIAL APPLICABILITY
The dose management device has a variety of industrial applications. In one application, pharmaceutical companies and pharmacies may use the dose management device in delivering a drug to a patient. The structure of the device advantageously allows the patient to keep track of when their medication is being taken correctly. In another application, the dose management device may be sold separately at a retail store to allow users to organize and schedule their own medication therapies. The dose management device allows patients to easily and conveniently track their medication. The dose management device comprises a cap with a dose regimen indicia having information related to dose frequency. The cap includes a first layer having a cavity, a second layer disposed in the cavity, a third layer surrounding the cavity of the first layer, an upper surface of the second layer having a dose-schedule indicia, the third layer having an opening. The rotating frame is configured to enable a user to rotate the third layer to cover a portion of the dose regimen indicia having information related to the frequency with which the medicament is to be removed from the container.
