Abstract
The invention relates to an assembly (1), comprising: -an air filter (2) comprising a cover (7), the cover (7) comprising an opening (9); an air metering valve comprising a filtered air inlet; and a gasket (15) arranged between the opening (9) and the filtered air inlet, characterized in that the assembly comprises positioning means for positioning the gasket (15) with respect to the cover (7).
Description
Technical Field
The present invention claims priority from french application n° 2009722 filed on 24 months 9 in 2020, the contents of which application (text, figures and claims) are incorporated herein by reference.
The present invention relates to the field of intake lines for internal combustion engines. More specifically, the present invention is directed to an assembly comprising an air filter and an air metering valve.
Background
From document FR3069892 an air filter for a heat engine is known, said air filter comprising a hollow body and a cover for closing said hollow body. The cover is removable to allow replacement of a filter cartridge housed inside the body. The filter includes a gasket interposed between a filtered air outlet present on the cover and an inlet of a butterfly housing. However, the maintenance operation for maintaining the filter cartridge requires disassembly of the cover and the gasket. A number of factors (e.g. thermal shock, vibration and pressure etc.) affect the shape of the gasket and these deformations make it difficult to use the same gasket without obtaining air leakage between the butterfly housing and the cover, but for engines perfect filtration and sufficient air flow are the necessary conditions for a longer service life of the gasket under normal energy consumption.
Disclosure of Invention
The present invention aims to effectively overcome these drawbacks by providing an assembly comprising:
an air filter comprising a cover, the cover comprising an opening,
an air metering valve comprising a filtered air inlet,
a gasket arranged between the opening and the filtered air inlet,
wherein the assembly comprises positioning means for positioning (indexing) the gasket relative to the cover.
The technical effect is that by repositioning the gasket as before disassembly, the tightness of the air filter after reassembly is ensured.
Various additional features may be employed alone or in combination:
according to an embodiment, the positioning member comprises a male portion cooperating with a female portion.
According to an embodiment, the male portion is a tongue protruding from the gasket.
According to an embodiment, the tongue extends radially with respect to the plane of the gasket.
According to an embodiment, the female portion comprises a recess.
According to an embodiment, the recess is carried by a rib surrounding the gasket.
According to an embodiment, the rib is carried by the air metering valve or by the cover.
According to an embodiment, the air filter comprises a filter cartridge having a gasket disposed along a periphery of the filter cartridge, the cover further comprising ribs against the gasket.
The invention also aims to provide an internal combustion engine, characterized in that it comprises an assembly according to any of the variants described above.

Detailed Description
Fig. 1 and 2 show an assembly 1 comprising an air filter 2 for an intake line of an internal combustion engine. Such an engine may be equipped on a motor vehicle. The air filter 2 may be fixed to the body of the vehicle or to a part of the engine, such as a cylinder head cover or a de-oiler. The assembly 1 further comprises an air metering valve 3, also commonly referred to as a butterfly housing.
For this purpose, the air filter 2 comprises a hollow body 4 in which a filter cartridge 5 is accommodated, which has, for example, the form of a substantially parallelepiped. The hollow body 4 of the air filter 2 comprises, on one of its lateral faces, a fixing device 6 for fixing with a corresponding part of the engine, said fixing part being of the quarter-turn locking device type.
The cover 7 removably closes the hollow body 4 to allow replacement of the filter cartridge 5. Advantageously, the cover 7 is manufactured as a single piece. The hollow body 4 and the cover 7 are for example made of a rigid plastic material, in particular polyamide.
More precisely, the cap 7 serves to close a first opening 8 of the body 4, which extends along a substantially horizontal plane P1, and a second opening 9 of the hollow body 4, which extends along a plane P2 substantially orthogonal (that is to say vertical) to the plane P1.
The cover 7 is fixed to the hollow body 4 by means of at least one fixing means, for example a nested hinge 10, for which the removal can be carried out manually without tools.
As can be seen in fig. 2, the filter core 5 delimits with the hollow body 4 an upstream dirty air chamber 11 into which an air inlet 12 opens for communication with the front facade of the vehicle to draw air. The downstream clean air chamber 13 is also delimited by the filter element 5 and the cover 7.
In order to ensure tightness of the assembly, a gasket 14 is interposed between the hollow body 4 of the air filter 2 and the cover 7. The gasket 14 is placed along the perimeter of the filter element 5. The gasket 14 having a rectangular form extends along a horizontal plane P1. The gasket 14 is made of, for example, a polyurethane foam-based material.
Another gasket 15 is interposed between the air chamber downstream of the cover 7 of the air filter 2 and the filtered air inlet of the air metering valve body 3. The gasket 15 is positioned around the second opening 9. The gasket 15, having the form of a ring, extends along a vertical plane P2. The gasket 15 ensures tightness between the filter 2 and the air metering valve body 3. The gasket 15 is advantageously a lip gasket, but may in variants be of other types, for example an O-ring.
According to the invention, positioning means are designed for positioning the gasket 15 with respect to the cover 7. These positioning means are here constituted by a male part in the form of a tongue 16, which projects from the gasket 15. The tongue 16 is arranged for accommodation in a female part in the form of a recess 17. The tongue 15 extends radially with respect to the plane of the gasket. Preferably, this recess 17 is provided on the air metering valve body 3 and is carried by a rib 18. The rib at least partially surrounds the gasket 15.
However, in a variant, the ribs 18 and the notches 17 may be carried by the cover.
To maintain the gasket 14 in place around the filter core 5; two ribs 19, 19' can be provided in the cover 7. These ribs are arranged to bear against the width-forming sides of the gasket 14 of the filter insert 5 in order to prevent displacement of the filter insert 5 and to prevent the passage of unfiltered air.
The positioning enables the gasket of the air filter to be re-placed in its original position after disassembly/assembly and after each maintenance operation.
Therefore, the invention can avoid the need of replacing the sealing gasket during each maintenance operation of the filter element. The gasket, which is reusable due to its positioning means, can have fewer parts to be stored and managed for maintenance. The invention allows for a longer service life of the filter cartridge due to regular maintenance, accessibility, ergonomic disassembly/assembly of the filter cartridge.
Claims (9)
1. An assembly (1), the assembly comprising:
an air filter (2) comprising a cover (7), said cover (7) comprising an opening (9),
an air metering valve (3) comprising a filtered air inlet,
a gasket (15) arranged between the opening (9) and the filtered air inlet,
characterized in that the assembly comprises positioning means for positioning the gasket (15) with respect to the cover (7).
2. Assembly (1) according to claim 1, wherein said positioning means comprise a male portion cooperating with a female portion.
3. Assembly (1) according to claim 2, characterized in that said male portion is a tongue (16) protruding from said gasket (15).
4. An assembly (1) according to claim 3, wherein the tongue (16) extends radially with respect to the plane of the gasket (15).
5. Assembly (1) according to any one of claims 2 to 4, characterized in that the female part comprises a recess (17).
6. Assembly (1) according to claim 5, characterized in that the recess (17) is carried by a rib (18) surrounding the gasket (15).
7. Assembly (1) according to claim 6, characterized in that the rib (18) is carried by the air metering valve (3) or by the cover (7).
8. Assembly (1) according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the air filter (2) comprises a filter cartridge (5) with a further gasket (14) placed along the periphery of the filter cartridge (5), the cover (7) further comprising ribs (19, 19') resting against the further gasket (14).
9. An internal combustion engine, characterized in that it comprises an assembly (1) according to any one of the preceding claims.
