Detailed Description
Embodiments of the present disclosure will be described in more detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings. While certain embodiments of the present disclosure have been presented in the drawings, it should be understood that the present disclosure may be embodied in various forms and should not be construed as limited to the embodiments set forth herein, but rather are provided for a more thorough and complete understanding of the present disclosure. It should be understood that the drawings and embodiments of the disclosure are for illustration purposes only and are not intended to limit the scope of the disclosure.
In describing embodiments of the present disclosure, the terms "include" and its derivatives should be interpreted as being inclusive, i.e., "including but not limited to. The term "based on" should be understood as "based at least in part on". The term "one embodiment" or "the embodiment" should be understood as "at least one embodiment". The terms "first," "second," and the like may refer to different or the same object. Other explicit and implicit definitions are also possible below.
As mentioned above, currently, in order to avoid the driver using a smartphone to browse visual content during driving, mirroring technology is typically employed to project the content in the smartphone directly onto the presentation screen of the vehicle's center console. In this way, the driver can browse all the content in his smartphone on the presentation screen of the central console. However, the visual content may distract the driver, and therefore, directly projecting the visual content in the smartphone onto the presentation screen of the center console still has a large safety risk, especially in situations such as high vehicle speeds or complex surrounding traffic conditions. In some cases, to ensure driving safety, all visual contents are controlled not to be presented in a case where the vehicle speed is fast or the surrounding traffic conditions are complicated. In such a solution, the visual content that is not rendered is missing for the driver, so that the driver cannot get a complete experience with the multimedia content.
According to an embodiment of the present disclosure, a solution for controlling content presentation is presented. In this approach, different types of content elements in the multimedia content are controlled to be presented in dependence on the vehicle being in different driving conditions, such that upon detecting a change of the vehicle from a first driving condition requiring a higher degree of user attention to a second driving condition requiring a lower degree of user attention, a portion of the multimedia content that was not presented while the vehicle was in the first driving condition is controlled to be presented in the vehicle. Through such a content presentation scheme, the complete experience of the user on the multimedia content can be maintained while ensuring driving safety.
Fig. 1 shows a schematic diagram of an example environment 100, in accordance with embodiments of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 1, the example environment 100 includes a presentation control device 110, a multimedia presentation system 120 in a vehicle 160, a driving condition 130, a content library 140, and a criteria library 150. In some embodiments, the presentation control device 100 can retrieve the multimedia content 145 from the content repository 140, causing a portion of the multimedia content 145 to be presented in the vehicle, such as by the multimedia presentation system 120 within the vehicle, based on the driving conditions 130 detected from the vehicle sensors. Additionally, in some embodiments, the presentation control device 100 may also obtain information such as content presentation criteria 155 from the criteria library 150, causing certain portions of the multimedia content 145 to be presented in the vehicle based on the detected driving conditions 130 and the information such as the content presentation criteria 155.
The multimedia presentation system 120 may present certain portions of the multimedia content 145 according to control commands received from the presentation control device 110. In some embodiments, the multimedia presentation system 120 includes a visual content presentation device, such as a display screen, to present visual content in the multimedia content. Alternatively, in other embodiments, the multimedia presentation system 120 may further include an audio playback device (not shown) to play audio content (if any) of the multimedia content. The presentation control device 110 and the multimedia presentation system 120 may communicate with each other via a bus in the vehicle.
With respect to the driving conditions 130, the multimedia content 145 in the content library 140, and the content presentation criteria 155 in the criteria library 150, detailed description with respect to fig. 2 will follow.
It should be understood that the example environment 100 is described for exemplary purposes only and does not imply any limitation as to the scope of the disclosure. For example, embodiments of the present disclosure may also be applied to environments other than the example environment 100. For example, the presentation control apparatus of the embodiments of the present disclosure may also be within a vehicle. It should be understood that the specific numbers of the devices described above are given for illustrative purposes only and do not imply any limitation on the scope of the disclosure. Embodiments of the present disclosure may also obtain other information in addition to driving conditions and content presentation criteria. Embodiments of the present disclosure may also be applied to more multimedia presentation systems.
FIG. 2 shows a flowchart of an example method 200 for controlling content presentation, according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. In some embodiments, the method 200 may be implemented by the presentation control device 110 shown in FIG. 1. For ease of understanding, specific data mentioned in the following description are exemplary and are not intended to limit the scope of the present disclosure.
At 210, the presentation control device 110 obtains multimedia content 145 to be presented in the vehicle 160, the multimedia content 145 including a plurality of types of content elements. In some embodiments, the presentation control device 110 may obtain aggregated content for different combinations of content elements, such as audio, images, text, video, and so forth. For example, the presentation control device 110 may obtain audio-video containing audio, text, and video. Additionally or alternatively, the presentation control device 110 may retrieve an article containing images and text. Additionally, the multimedia content 145 may also contain content that requires user interaction, such as content that is zoomed in or out by a user click, content that presents details by a user click, content that is selected by a user click, and so forth.
In some embodiments, the presentation control device 110 may obtain the multimedia content 145 by accessing a preconfigured content library 140. The multimedia content 145 in the content library 140 may have tags to indicate the types of content elements included in the multimedia content 145. For example, an audio-video containing audio, text, and video may have a tag of "audio + video + text", where the audio, text, and video portions may further have their own sub-tags; an article containing images and text may have a label of "figure + text", where the images and text may further have their own sub-labels. Additionally or alternatively, in other embodiments, the presentation control device 110 may retrieve multimedia content outside of the content repository 140, for example via a connected user's smartphone.
At 220, the presentation control device 110 detects the driving condition 130 of the vehicle. In some embodiments, the driving condition 130 of the vehicle may be associated with an operating condition of the vehicle itself. In some embodiments, the presentation control device 110 may acquire signals from vehicle sensors to detect operating conditions of the vehicle. The operating condition of the vehicle may be, for example, a speed of the vehicle, a gear position of the vehicle, a braking state of the vehicle, an engine state of the vehicle, and the like. For example, the speed value of the vehicle, whether the gear of the vehicle is in P-range or D-range, whether the vehicle is braked, whether the engine of the vehicle is on or off, etc.
Additionally or alternatively, in other embodiments, the driving conditions 130 of the vehicle may be associated with the surrounding traffic conditions of the vehicle itself. The presentation control device 110 may also acquire signals from vehicle sensors to detect the surrounding traffic conditions of the vehicle. The surrounding traffic condition may be, for example, a condition of a traffic light around the vehicle, a condition of other vehicles around the vehicle, a condition of pedestrians around the vehicle, etc., such as whether the traffic light is a red light or a green light, the number and respective speeds of other vehicles around the vehicle, whether there are pedestrians around the vehicle, the number of pedestrians around the vehicle, etc.
The presentation control device 110 may determine the driving conditions 130 of the vehicle from the detected operating conditions and/or surrounding traffic conditions. In some embodiments, the driving conditions 130 of the vehicle may include a plurality of predefined driving conditions, each predefined driving condition associated with a respective operating condition and/or ambient traffic condition. For example, the driving conditions 130 of the vehicle may include: an ultra-fast driving condition, a medium driving condition, a slow driving but surrounding traffic is complicated, a vehicle is parked but an engine is turned on, a vehicle is parked and an engine is turned off, and the like.
At 230, the presentation control device 110 detects whether the vehicle 160 is in a first driving condition. If so, at 240, the presentation control device 110 causes a first content portion of the multimedia content 145 to be presented in the vehicle, the first content portion including at least a portion of the content elements of a first type of the plurality of types.
It is readily appreciated that different driving conditions require different levels of user attention. For example, when the speed of the vehicle is fast or the traffic conditions around the vehicle are complicated, the driver is required to keep higher attention to ensure driving safety. At the same time, the degree of user attention required for different types of content elements to be presented also differs. For example, audio, images, text, video, and content requiring user interaction are ordered from low to high in the desired level of user attention. In order to ensure driving safety, when the speed of the vehicle is fast or the surrounding traffic conditions are complicated, content elements requiring high attention of the user should not be presented to prevent the driver's attention from being distracted, thereby causing a safety problem.
Thus, when the presentation control device 110 detects that the vehicle 160 is in a first driving condition in which the required user attention is high, content elements in the multimedia content 145 in which the required user attention is low are caused to be presented. In other words, the missing version of the complete multimedia content is presented at this time. For example, in some examples, upon detecting that the vehicle 160 is in a first driving condition where the required user attention is high, the presentation control device 110 may cause the audio content portion of the full movie to be presented while the video portion is not. In some examples, upon detecting that the vehicle 160 is in a first driving condition where the required user attention is high, the presentation control device 110 may cause the image portion of the complete article to be presented while the text portion is not.
In some embodiments, the presentation control device 110 may determine a first type of content element to be presented in the multimedia content 145 based on a degree of user attention required for a first driving condition when the vehicle 160 is detected to be in the first driving condition. For example, in some examples, if the first driving condition is detected to be a medium speed driving condition, e.g., above 10km/h but below 40km/h, presentation control device 110 may cause at least a portion of the audio, images, and text in multimedia content 145 to be presented, but cause the video in multimedia content 145 and content requiring user interaction to not be presented. In some examples, if the first driving condition is detected to be a fast driving condition, e.g., above 40km/h, the presentation control device 110 may cause at least a portion of the audio and images in the multimedia content 145 to be presented, but cause other content elements in the multimedia content 145 to not be presented, and so on.
In some embodiments, the presentation control device 110 may obtain content presentation criteria 155, the content presentation criteria 155 indicating an association between the driving conditions of the vehicle and the types of content elements that may be permitted to be presented. Upon detecting that the vehicle 160 is in the first driving condition, the presentation control device 110 may determine the type of content elements that may be permitted to be presented as a first type according to the content presentation criteria 150 and then extract at least a portion of the content elements of the first type from the multimedia content 145 as a first content portion for presentation. As explained above, the user attention required for the first driving situation is higher, and it is therefore more appropriate to present the first content portion requiring lower user attention. In some examples, the first driving condition may be a moderate driving condition and the first type of content element may be audio, images, and text. In some examples, the first driving condition may be a fast driving condition, the first type of content element may be audio and image, and so on.
In some embodiments, the content presentation criteria 155 may define: when the vehicle is in an ultrafast condition in excess of 80km/h, rendering of all content elements in the multimedia content 145 is prohibited. In some embodiments, the content presentation criteria 155 may define: when the vehicle is in a parked and engine off condition, all content elements in the multimedia content 145 are allowed to be presented. In some embodiments, the content presentation criteria 155 may define: when the vehicle is in a parked but engine on condition, audio, image, text, and video content elements in the multimedia content 145 are allowed to be presented, but content elements requiring user interaction are not allowed to be presented. In some embodiments, the content presentation criteria 155 may define: when the vehicle is in a condition where the surrounding traffic lights are red and the vehicle is braking, audio, image, text, and video content elements in the multimedia content 145 are allowed to be presented, but content elements requiring user interaction, etc., are not allowed to be presented.
In some embodiments, the content presentation criteria 155 may be preconfigured by the vehicle manufacturer. In some embodiments, the driver may adjust the preconfigured content presentation criteria 155 as needed to obtain customized content presentation criteria. For example, the content presentation criteria 155 pre-configured by the vehicle manufacturer are: when the vehicle is in an ultrafast condition in excess of 80km/h, rendering of all content elements in the multimedia content 145 is prohibited. If the driver's driving experience is rich, he may adjust the content presentation criteria 155 to: when the vehicle is in an ultrafast condition in excess of 90km/h, rendering of all content elements in the multimedia content 145 is prohibited.
It should be understood that the various content presentation criteria and driver adjustments to the content presentation criteria are shown for exemplary purposes only and do not imply any limitation as to the scope of the present disclosure. For example, other content presentation criteria may also be preconfigured; the driver may also make other adjustments to the content presentation criteria. The present disclosure is not limited in this respect.
By determining the first content part by means of the content presentation criterion and the driving situation of the vehicle, content elements suitable for different driving situations and different drivers can be flexibly determined for presentation, making it possible to customize the content usage experience suitable for different driving situations and different drivers.
At 250, the presentation control device 110 detects whether the vehicle 160 changes from the first driving condition to the second driving condition. If so, at 260, the presentation control device 110 causes a second content portion of the multimedia content 145 to be presented in the vehicle 160, the second content portion including at least a portion of the first content portion already presented and at least a portion of a second type of content element of the plurality of types. That is, when the vehicle is in the second driving condition, the presentation control device 110 controls more types of content elements in the multimedia content to be presented to the user, including in particular portions of the content that have been previously presented. In other words, at this point, the presentation control device 110 may cause a full version (i.e., the second content portion) to be presented that corresponds to the missing version (i.e., the first content portion) of the multimedia content 145 that has been previously presented.
In some embodiments, upon detecting a change of the vehicle 160 from a first driving condition requiring a higher degree of user attention to a second driving condition requiring a lower degree of user attention, such as a lower speed of the vehicle or simpler traffic conditions around, the presentation control device 110 may cause a second content portion to be presented in the vehicle 160, and the second content portion including at least a portion of the already presented first content portion and at least a portion of a second type of content element requiring higher user attention. In this way, the presentation control apparatus can present content elements of the multimedia content that are less distracting to the driver during a period in which the driver should concentrate on driving, so that the driver is made aware of the subject and/or summary of the multimedia content while ensuring driving safety; and present other content or details during periods when the driver is less required to focus on driving so that the driver can learn the full multimedia content.
In some embodiments, upon detecting a change in the vehicle 160 from a first driving condition to a second driving condition, the presentation control device 110 may determine the types of content elements that may be permitted to be presented as a first type and a second type according to the content presentation criteria 150, and then select at least a portion of the first content portion and at least a portion of the second type of content elements from the multimedia content as a second content portion for presentation.
For example, in an embodiment where the acquired multimedia content is an article including images and text, upon detecting that the vehicle is in a fast-driving condition, e.g., above 40km/h, the presentation control device 110 causes some of the images in the article to be presented, but the text describing those images is not presented; upon detecting that the driving condition of the vehicle changes to a low-speed driving condition, such as below 10km/h or even standing still (e.g., at a red waiting light), the presentation control device 110 may cause the images to be presented together with text describing the images.
In an embodiment where the acquired multimedia content is an audio-video including audio, text, and video, upon detecting that the vehicle is in a fast-driving condition, e.g., above 40km/h, the presentation control device 110 causes a certain frame of image in the audio and video in the audio-video to be presented, but the text and video are not presented; upon detecting that the driving condition of the vehicle changes to a condition where the traffic light is red and the vehicle is braking, the presentation control device 110 may cause previously unrepresented text and video to be presented along with the already presented audio.
In this way, when the vehicle is in a first driving situation requiring a high degree of attention of the user, the driver can learn the subject and/or summary to which the multimedia content relates by listening to audio or viewing images or the like; when the vehicle changes from the first driving condition to a second driving condition requiring a lower degree of user attention, the presentation control device 110 may present the content of the multimedia content that is not presented in association with the content that has been presented, so that the driver can obtain the complete multimedia content without affecting driving safety at the second driving condition. How the second content portion is caused to be presented will be described in detail below with respect to fig. 3.
It should be understood that the first driving condition, the second driving condition, the first type of content element, the second type of content element are shown for exemplary purposes only and do not imply any limitation as to the scope of the present disclosure. For example, the first and second driving conditions may also be other driving conditions, and the first and second types of content elements may also be other types. The present disclosure is not limited in this respect.
In the above exemplary embodiments, by presenting different types of content elements in the multimedia content according to different driving conditions of the vehicle, it is possible to maintain a complete user experience of the multimedia content while ensuring driving safety.
Fig. 3 shows a flowchart of an example method 300 for causing a second portion of content to be presented, in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure. In some embodiments, the method 300 may be implemented in the presentation control device 110 shown in FIG. 1. For ease of understanding, specific data mentioned in the following description are exemplary and are not intended to limit the scope of the present disclosure.
At 310, the presentation control device 110 may select at least a portion from the presented first content portion as a first target content portion. As explained above, the first content portion for example comprises content elements that require less user attention.
In some embodiments, the presentation control device 110 may select a last presented portion from the already presented first content portions as the first target content portion. Alternatively, in other embodiments, the presentation control device 110 may treat the already presented first content portion as the first target content portion in its entirety. For example, in an embodiment where the acquired multimedia content is an article including images and text, and the first content part that has been presented is 3 images, the presentation control apparatus 110 may select the last presented image from the 3 images as the first target content part, or may select all of the 3 images as the first target content part.
At 320, the presentation control device 110 may select a second target content portion from the multimedia content, the second target content portion including a portion of the second type of content element associated with the first target content portion.
Taking the embodiment where the presented first content portion is an image as an example, if the first target content portion is one image of the last presentation, the presentation control device 110 may select a second type of content element associated with this image from the multimedia content. For example, the presentation control device 110 may select text from the multimedia content that describes more detail of the image, or select a video from the multimedia content that is presented simultaneously with the image, or select content from the multimedia content that requires user interaction from the same content source as the image. If the first target content portion is all images already rendered, the rendering control device 110 may select all content elements of the second type associated with the 3 images from the multimedia content.
At 330, the presentation control device 110 combines the first target content portion and the second target content portion into a second content portion for presentation. The user attention required for the combined second content part may be high, but such content presentation is suitable in a second driving situation where the vehicle is in a less demanding user attention. In this way, the driver is able to view the multimedia content in its entirety while the vehicle is in the second driving condition.
In the above exemplary embodiment, by combining at least a part of the presented first content part with a second type of content element associated with the part for presentation, the driver can be made to browse the multimedia content part that was not presented during the previous driving, so that the driver maintains the complete experience of the multimedia content.
