Description

Steering wheel vibration damping system and steering wheel
Technical Field
The present invention relates to the field of vehicles, and more particularly to a steering wheel damping system and a steering wheel having such a steering wheel damping system.
Background
Steering wheels are widely used in modern vehicles to provide steering functionality. Typically, the steering wheel may include an airbag module and a ring for the vehicle horn, which may be mounted in the center of the steering wheel. The vehicle may generate vibrations while running, for example due to idling of the engine of the vehicle, due to unevenness of the road surface, due to tire deformation processes of the vehicle, and the like. The vibration of the vehicle may be transmitted to the steering wheel. Vibrations in the steering wheel may affect the comfort of the driver of the vehicle.
Steering wheel damping systems are known in the prior art, which comprise an elastomer as spring element and an airbag module as seismic mass, the elastomer being configured for transmitting vibrations of the steering wheel body to the airbag module. When vibration of a vehicle is transmitted to a steering wheel main body, a steering wheel vibration damping system including an elastic body and a vibration mass may partially absorb the vibration of the steering wheel main body, improving the comfort of a driver holding a rim of the steering wheel. Reference may be made to CN103140387B, CN105667443B, CN209921405U and CN110962911A, for example, in connection with the prior art.
Disclosure of Invention
The inventors of the present application found in the study of the steering wheel damping system that:
in some known steering wheel damping systems, the elastomer of the damping system is deformed by the weight of the airbag module, resulting in a possible poor fit between the airbag module and the steering wheel, with possible gaps and differences in surface between them. In some extreme cases even the vehicle horn operates abnormally due to gaps and surface differences.
In some known steering wheel damping systems, the damping system interacts with a click spring of a click device for a vehicle horn, which may cause unstable damping effects and poor click feel of the horn, thereby adversely affecting comfort of a user.
In some known steering wheel damping systems, during operation of the damping system, the airbag module is restrained from vibrating when an object, such as a driver's hand, comes into contact with the airbag door cover of the airbag module, thereby causing the damping function to significantly degrade or even to lose.
It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a steering wheel damping system and a steering wheel having such a steering wheel damping system, wherein at least one of the disadvantages found in the known steering wheel damping systems is at least partially overcome.
According to a first aspect of the invention, a steering wheel damping system is proposed, comprising an airbag module for a steering wheel, the airbag module comprising an airbag door cover and a housing part, the airbag door cover and the housing part forming a housing of the airbag module, the housing having a receiving chamber for receiving a folded airbag, the steering wheel damping system comprising a spring element configured for transmitting vibrations of a steering wheel body to a mass, the mass comprising the housing part of the airbag module and a part supported by the housing part, wherein the airbag door cover is configured for mounting to the steering wheel body and for decoupling from the housing part such that the airbag door cover does not belong to the mass.
In the steering wheel damping system according to the present invention, the airbag door cover may be mounted to the steering wheel main body and does not participate in the steering wheel damping function. This makes it possible to achieve and permanently maintain a good overall outer contour of the airbag module and of the steering wheel body. Since the airbag door cover can be directly fitted to the steering wheel main body, it is possible to reduce the accumulation of dimensional tolerances, so that the airbag module and the steering wheel main body can be fitted well in appearance. Furthermore, the damping function is not substantially affected when an object comes into contact with the airbag door. The damping effect is more stable overall.
In some embodiments, the steering wheel dampening system may include a peg having a first end section vibrationally coupled with the housing member and a second end section configured for vibrational coupling with the steering wheel body.
In some embodiments, the resilient element may be comprised of an elastomer. It is also possible that the spring element may be formed by a mechanical spring. The resilient element may also be a compound spring. The elastic element may additionally have damping properties.
In some embodiments, the steering wheel dampening system may include a first elastomer disposed in the region of the first end section and/or a second elastomer disposed in the region of the second end section.
In some embodiments, the first elastomer may surround the first end section, the first elastomer may be an overmolded layer integrally connected with the pin or a separate component from the pin.
In some embodiments, the first elastomer may be integrally formed or constructed of multiple pieces.
In some embodiments, the housing component may have a through hole that receives the first end section and the first elastomer.
In some embodiments, the pin may have a head in the first end section, the combined head of the pin and the first elastomer resting on a first side of the through-hole facing away from the second end section, the combined shank of the combination mating with the through-hole.
In some embodiments, on the first side of the through-opening, the combination head can be fixed by a pressure plate fixed to the housing part, which presses against a flat portion of the first elastomer, which is applied to the head of the pin.
In some embodiments, the airbag module may include a retaining ring secured to the housing component to retain the airbag to the housing component, the retaining ring securing the pressure plate to the housing component.
In some embodiments, the retaining ring is fixed to the housing part by means of a fastening device which additionally fixes the inflator of the airbag module to the housing part.
In some embodiments, the combination can be fixed on a second side of the through-opening opposite to the first side by means of a fixing tab, wherein the pin has a latching groove into which the fixing tab engages with a latching hook, and the fixing tab presses the flange of the first elastomer against the second side of the through-opening.
In some embodiments, the through-hole may be configured as a counterbore with the composite head in a countersink.
In some embodiments, the second spring body may be formed integrally with the second end section or may be attached to the second end section as a separate component, the second spring body being configured for being pressed against the steering wheel body by the pin.
In some embodiments, the second end section may have a neck portion configured to receive a fixing wire provided in the steering wheel body, such that the pin can be fixed on the steering wheel body by means of the fixing wire.
In some embodiments, the steering wheel vibration damping system may comprise a spring element which is more rigid than the spring element and can be fixed in the steering wheel body, against which spring element the pin can be pressed with its end facing away from the housing part.
In some embodiments, the steering wheel dampening system may include a clicker for a vehicle horn that is partially or fully decoupled from the mass. The interaction between the damping function and the click function can thus be at least partially eliminated. The vehicle horn has better touch feeling.
In some embodiments, the clicker may include a clicker up and a clicker down and a clicker spring separating the clicker up and the clicker down from each other.
In some embodiments, the clicker plate may be mounted to the steering wheel body. In this embodiment, the interaction between the vibration damping function and the click function can be substantially completely eliminated.
In some embodiments, the clicker may be configured as a structural unit that may be mounted to the steering wheel body. Through pressing the air bag door cover, the air bag door cover can enable the upper ringing sheet to move, and therefore the contacts of the upper ringing sheet and the lower ringing sheet can be in contact conduction. In this embodiment, the interaction between the vibration damping function and the click function can be substantially completely eliminated. However, it is also contemplated that the clicker upper may be mounted to the air bag door and may move along with the air bag door.
In some embodiments, the airbag door cover and the housing part may each have a peripheral wall, the peripheral wall of the airbag door cover overlapping the peripheral wall of the housing part and being movable relative to one another in the axial direction of the airbag module.
In some embodiments, the peripheral wall of one of the airbag door cover and the housing component may have a limiting aperture, and the peripheral wall of the other of the airbag door cover and the housing component may have a hook projecting into the limiting aperture, the hook and limiting aperture being configured to limit a separation travel of the airbag door cover from the housing component upon activation of the airbag module. For example, the limiting opening can be formed as an axially extending elongated opening.
In some embodiments, the airbag door cover may have a peripheral edge and a fixing element protruding from the peripheral edge, the fixing element being configured to be inserted into a fixing hole of a foam base of a steering wheel main body.
In some embodiments, the fixing element can have a mushroom head, which is designed to positively connect the fixing element to the fixing opening.
Advantageously, the fixing element and the fixing hole can be configured for guiding a pressing movement of the airbag door.
In some embodiments, the steering wheel dampening system may include a plurality of dampening assemblies distributed on the housing member, each dampening assembly may include at least one elastomer and one pin.
In some embodiments, the pin may be a metal pin.
According to a second aspect of the present invention, a steering wheel is proposed, comprising a steering wheel body in which a steering wheel damping system according to the first aspect of the present invention is arranged. The steering wheel has technical advantages associated with the steering wheel dampening system described above.

Detailed Description
Next, a steering wheel having a steering wheel damping system according to a first embodiment of the present invention will be described first with reference to fig. 1 to 4, in which fig. 1 is a half view of the steering wheel, fig. 2 is a half sectional view of the steering wheel taken along a section line a-a in fig. 1, fig. 3 is a partially enlarged view of fig. 2, and fig. 4 is a partially enlarged view of fig. 3.
The steering wheel has a steering wheel body 1 and an airbag module 2 disposed in the center of the steering wheel body. The steering wheel main body 1 may include a metal skeleton 14 and a foamed substrate 15, which wraps the metal skeleton 14. The steering wheel main body 1 may have a rim on which a driver's hand can be held. Accessories and operating elements can be provided on the steering wheel body 1. The airbag module 2 is designed to be activated in an emergency situation of the vehicle, for example in the event of a collision or a roll-over of the vehicle, in order to eject the inflated airbag 4, providing safety protection for the driver. The airbag module 2 comprises an airbag door 3 and a housing part 5, which form the housing of the airbag module, said housing having a receiving space for receiving a folded airbag 4. The airbag module 2 can comprise an inflator 6, which can be designed, for example, as a pyrotechnic gas generator. The inflator 6 may be mounted in the center of the housing member 5. The airbag module 2 may comprise a retaining ring 9 for retaining the airbag 4. Advantageously, the inflator 6 and the retaining ring 9 are fixed to the housing part 5 by a common fastening device 8. The fastening means may be, for example, a bolt connection means comprising a bolt and a nut. The airbag door cover 3 may be configured for mounting to the steering wheel body 1 and be decoupled from the housing component 5. For this purpose, the airbag door 3 can have a peripheral edge and a fixing element 13 projecting from the peripheral edge, which is configured for insertion into a fixing hole 16 of a foam base 15 of the steering wheel body. Advantageously, the fastening element 13 can have a mushroom head, which is designed for a positive connection of the fastening element 13 to the fastening opening 16, wherein the fastening opening 16 can have an undercut which cooperates with the mushroom head. The airbag door 3 and the housing part 5 can each have a peripheral wall 10, 11, the peripheral wall 11 of the airbag door 3 overlapping the peripheral wall 10 of the housing part 5 and being movable relative to one another in the axial direction of the airbag module 2. In order to limit the separating travel of the airbag door cover 3 from the housing part 5 during activation of the airbag module 2 for increased safety, the circumferential wall 10 of the housing part 5 can have hooks 12, and the circumferential wall of the airbag door cover can have limiting openings 18, into which the hooks protrude. The limiting hole 18 may be configured as an axially extending elongated hole, for example.
The steering wheel damping system may comprise a mass which may comprise the housing part 5 of the airbag module 2 and components supported by the housing part 5, such as an inflator 6, a retaining ring 9, fastening means 8 and a folded airbag 4, etc. The airbag door 3 is decoupled from the housing part 5, does not belong to the mass and therefore does not participate in the damping function of the steering wheel damping system. The airbag door cover can thereby permanently maintain a predetermined contour dimension with respect to the steering wheel body when it is mounted on the steering wheel body, without the disadvantages of the airbag module collapsing with respect to the steering wheel body as can occur in the prior art. Further, the airbag door 3 may be frequently pressed during use of the vehicle. In the known steering wheels with steering wheel damping systems, pressing the airbag door cover can adversely affect the spring elements of the steering wheel damping system and thus the damping function. In addition, when the steering wheel damping system works, the hand of the driver contacts the air bag door cover, and the damping function is not influenced.
The steering wheel vibration damping system may include an elastic member configured to transmit vibration of the steering wheel main body 1 to the mass. The resilient element may for example comprise a metal spring or an elastomer or a composite spring. The resilient element may have mainly spring properties. The elastic element may also have not only spring properties but also damping properties. The steering wheel damping system may comprise a single damping arrangement or a plurality of damping arrangements, for example a centrally arranged damping arrangement or three distributed damping arrangements. Each vibration attenuation module may comprise at least one elastic element. The damping assemblies can act in parallel with one another on a common mass. One exemplary damping assembly is shown in fig. 1-4 and includes a pin 20 and a first elastomer 21. The pin 20 may be a metal pin. The pin 20 has a first end section, which is vibration-coupled to the housing part 5, and a second end section, which is vibration-coupled to the steering wheel body 1. The pin may have a tapered or hemispherical end, for example.
The first elastomer body 21 is arranged in the region of the first end section and surrounds the first end section. The first elastomer 21 can be formed integrally with the pin 20, for example, by injection molding or vulcanization. The housing part 5 may have mounting holes for receiving the pins 20. The mounting hole may be, for example, a blind hole or a through hole 7, preferably a counterbore. The pin 20 may have a head 33 in the first end section, and the combination of the pin 20 and the first spring body 21 or the combination of the heads of the damping arrangement rests on a first side of the through-opening 7 facing away from the second end section, preferably being received in a depression of the counterbore. The combined shank of the assembly or damping module is adapted to the through-opening 7. Preferably, the diameter of the head 33 may be larger than the diameter of the through-hole 7. On a first side of the through-opening 7, the combined head can be fixed by a pressure plate 28 fixed to the housing part 5, which pressure plate 28 can press against the flat part of the first spring 21 that is applied to the head 33 of the pin 20. Advantageously, the pressure plate 28 can be fixed to the housing part 5 by means of a retaining ring 9. The pressure plate 28 may additionally have hooks, by means of which it can be hooked onto the housing part 5 to further ensure the fixing of the pressure plate 28 on the housing part 5.
In order to couple the pin 20 to the steering wheel body 1 in a vibrating manner in the second end section, the pin 20 can be connected to the steering wheel body 1 or pressed against the steering wheel body 1 in order to transmit the vibrations of the steering wheel body 1 to the pin 20. As shown in fig. 2 to 4, the second end section can have a neck 24 which is designed to receive a fastening wire 17 provided in the steering wheel body 1, so that the pin 20 can be fastened to the steering wheel body 1 by means of the fastening wire 17. When mounted, the pin 20 can be pressed towards the steering wheel body 1, so that the fixing wire 17 slides into the neck 24. The steering wheel damping system may comprise a spring element 23 which is more rigid than the first spring body 21 and can be fixed in the steering wheel body 1, the pin 20 being able to be pressed with its end facing away from the housing part 5 against the spring element 23, thus achieving a pressing of the pin 20 relative to the steering wheel body 1.
The steering wheel damping system may include a clicker 30 for a vehicle horn that is partially or fully decoupled from the mass. The rattling means 30 may include a rattle upper piece 31 and a rattle lower piece 32 and a rattle spring, not shown, for separating the rattle upper piece and the rattle lower piece from each other. Advantageously, the click top, click spring and click bottom may be constructed as a single structural unit, which may be mounted to the steering wheel main body 1. Typically, the click spring may be a helical compression spring or a leaf spring. The click top 31 and click bottom 32 may have contacts, respectively. When the air bag door cover 3 is pressed, the upper pressing sheet 31 can overcome the pressing spring to move towards the lower pressing sheet 32, so that the contacts of the upper pressing sheet and the lower pressing sheet are in contact conduction, and the vehicle horn can sound. When the pressing of the airbag door 3 is released, the click upper piece 31 is returned by the returning force of the click spring, the contact points of the click upper piece and the click lower piece are separated from each other, and the vehicle horn stops sounding. Because the ring pressing device is decoupled with the steering wheel vibration reduction system, and the ring pressing function and the vibration reduction function are not influenced mutually, the vibration reduction function of the steering wheel vibration reduction system and the ring pressing function of the ring pressing device are kept for a long time.
Fig. 5 is an enlarged detail view of a steering wheel damping system according to a second embodiment of the invention, corresponding to fig. 4. The second embodiment differs from the first embodiment mainly in that a second elastic body 22 is provided instead of the elastic member 23. The second embodiment may be otherwise identical to the first embodiment, and reference may therefore be made to the relevant description for the first embodiment. The second spring body 22 can be formed integrally with the second end section of the pin 20 or can be attached to the second end section as a separate part, the second spring body 22 being designed to be pressed against the steering wheel body 1 by the pin 20. The second elastomer 22 may be formed as an axial extension of the pin 20. It is also possible that the second embodiment may be similar or different in other respects from the first embodiment. For example, it is possible to dispense with the first spring body 21 by suitably designing the second spring body 22.
Fig. 6 is an enlarged detail view of a steering wheel damping system according to a third embodiment of the invention, corresponding to fig. 3. The third embodiment differs from the first embodiment essentially in that the first spring body 21 is of a different design and that, instead of the pressure plate 28, the damping unit is fixed to the housing part 5 by means of a fixing plate 29. The third embodiment may be otherwise identical to the first embodiment, and therefore reference may be made to the relevant description for the first embodiment. In the third embodiment, the first elastic body 21 is a separate member from the pin 20. The first spring body 21 can first be inserted into the through-opening 7 of the housing part 5, the pin 20 can then be inserted into the first spring body 21, and the securing tab 29 can then be pushed onto the pin 20 until the securing tab 29 engages with a latching hook into the latching recess 25 of the pin 20, wherein the securing tab 29 presses the flange 19 of the first spring body 21 against a second side of the through-opening 7, which is opposite the first side.
Fig. 7 is a detail view of a steering wheel damping system according to a fourth embodiment of the invention, corresponding to fig. 3. The fourth embodiment differs from the first embodiment mainly in that the first elastic body 21 is configured differently. The fourth embodiment may be otherwise identical to the first embodiment, and therefore reference may be made to the relevant description for the first embodiment. In the fourth embodiment, the first elastic body 21 is formed in two parts, and includes a first part 21a and a second part 21b, the first part 21a circumferentially surrounding a first section of the pin 20, and the second part 21b covering the head of the pin 20.
In an embodiment, not shown, the steering wheel damping system may comprise at least one damping assembly, each damping assembly may comprise two tubular elements which are telescopic relative to each other, an elastic element, such as an elastomer or a helical spring, being arranged in a cavity of the tubular elements.
In an embodiment that is not shown, the steering wheel damping system can comprise at least one profiled spring made of sheet metal as an elastic element, which is connected with its one end to the steering wheel body 1 and with its other end to the housing part 5.
