Technical Field
The present invention relates to an active matrix organic light emitting diode display driving device, and more particularly, to an active matrix organic light emitting diode display driving device with frame frequency switching, which can maintain the display brightness of the active matrix organic light emitting diode unchanged.
Background
Due to the fast response characteristic of an Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode (AMOLED) panel, the dynamic display effect can be greatly improved, but the power saving requirement is required to be satisfied during static display, so frame rate (frame rate) switching is essential, and therefore, in the design of an AMOLED display driving device, it is required to consider avoiding display variation caused by frame rate switching during switching, and to reduce the complexity of circuit design and difficulty in use.
With the design of the conventional AMOLED display driving device, if switching of different frame frequencies is required, different panel driving timings (panel driving timings) are generally required to drive the AMOLED panel, which causes different panel charging times and thus changes in panel display brightness; in addition, because a plurality of different panel driving timings are required, the AMOLED display driving apparatus requires a relatively large memory to store a plurality of different settings, and also needs to reserve a sufficient conversion time in timing control, which causes difficulty in designing the driving circuit; in addition, for the display brightness variation caused by different panel charging time, it is not only necessary to compensate with other functions (such as Gamma) to reduce the variation, but also to affect other characteristic performances of the AMOLED panel (such as Mura).
Therefore, there are still many defects in the design of the conventional AMOLED display driving device and there is a need for improvement.
Disclosure of Invention

Detailed Description
In order to make the objects, technical solutions and advantages of the present invention more apparent, the present invention is described in further detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings and embodiments. It should be understood that the specific examples described herein are merely illustrative of the embodiments of the invention and are not intended to limit the invention.
Fig. 1 shows a schematic diagram of an Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode (AMOLED) display driving apparatus 11 of the present invention driving an AMOLED display panel 13 for displaying, wherein the active matrix organic light emitting diode display driving apparatus 11 includes a panel driving unit 111, a light emitting duty control unit 113, and a timing control unit 115, which can drive the active matrix organic light emitting diode display panel 13 according to input frame data and frame timing to display the input frame data on the active matrix organic light emitting diode display panel 13, and the active matrix organic light emitting diode display driving apparatus 11 can also be set by external control such as an Application Processor (AP).
The aforementioned active matrix oled display driving device 11 can switch to a plurality of frame rates FR-i (i is 1 to n, n is an integer greater than 1) for display driving, where the frame rate information for display driving is included in the input frame timing or can be set by an Application Processor (AP). As shown in FIG. 1, the frame rates FR-1, FR-2, FR-3, … FR-n are sequentially increased, i.e., the frame rate FR-n is the highest frame rate of a plurality of frame rates, each frame rate FR-i corresponds to a frame period 15, each frame period 15 has a Display Time (DT) and a vertical blanking time (VB), wherein the Display Time (DT) in the frame period 15 corresponding to the highest frame rate FR-n is defined as a reference display time (SDT).
Since the active matrix organic light emitting diode display driving device 11 performs display driving by switching to a plurality of frame rates FR-1, FR-2, FR-3, … FR-n, in order to achieve the purpose of varying the frame rate without changing the panel luminance, the timing control unit 115 changes the Display Time (DT) and the vertical blanking time (VB) in the frame period 15 corresponding to the frame rate FR-i so as to extend the vertical blanking time (VB) in accordance with the input frame rate FR-i, so that the Display Time (DT) in the frame period 15 corresponding to the frame rate FR-i is equal to the reference display time (SDT).
Please refer to fig. 2, which illustrates an exemplary control of the timing control unit 115, wherein most frame frequencies are 60Hz, 90Hz and 120Hz, wherein 120Hz is the highest frame frequency, as shown in the figure, the Display Time (DT) in the frame period 151 corresponding to the frame frequency 120Hz is the reference display time (SDT), and the vertical blanking time (VB) is obtained by subtracting the reference display time (SDT) from the frame period 151 corresponding to the frame frequency 120 Hz; for a frame frequency of 90Hz, the Display Time (DT) in the corresponding frame period 152 is changed to be equal to the reference display time (SDT), and the vertical blanking time (VB) is extended to be equal to the frame period 152 corresponding to the frame frequency of 90Hz minus the reference display time (SDT); similarly, for a frame frequency of 60Hz, the Display Time (DT) in the corresponding frame period 155 is changed to be equal to the reference display time (SDT), and the vertical blanking time (VB) is extended to be equal to the frame period 155 corresponding to the frame frequency of 60Hz minus the reference display time (SDT).
Based on the display time (DT ═ SDT) and the vertical blanking time (VB) in the frame period 15 corresponding to the frame rate FR-i changed by the timing control unit 115, the panel driving unit 111 drives the active matrix organic light emitting diode display panel 13 in accordance with the frame period 15 corresponding to the frame rate FR-i changed by the timing control unit 115, based on the input frame data and the frame timing, so as to display the input frame data on the active matrix organic light emitting diode display panel 13.
Meanwhile, for achieving the purpose of changing the frame frequency but not changing the panel brightness, in the frame period 15 corresponding to the frame frequency FR-i, the light emitting duty ratio control unit 113 applies a plurality of light emitting pulses (emission pulses) to the active matrix organic light emitting diode display panel 13, wherein the number of the applied light emitting pulses is such that the light emitting duty ratio (emission duty ratio cycle) of the frame period 15 corresponding to the frame frequency FR-i is a fixed default value, that is, the corresponding light emitting duty ratio is kept unchanged for all the frame frequencies FR-i.
Referring to fig. 3, a control example of the light-emitting duty ratio control unit 113 is illustrated, which takes a plurality of frame frequencies of 60Hz, 68.6Hz, 80Hz, 96Hz and 120Hz as examples, wherein 120Hz is the highest frame frequency. As shown in the figure, when switching to the highest frame frequency of 120Hz for display driving, the light-emitting duty control unit 113 applies N light-emitting pulses in the corresponding frame period 151, where N is an integer greater than 1, in this example, N is 4, that is, the light-emitting duty control unit 113 applies 4 light-emitting pulses in the corresponding frame period 151.
In order to maintain the light emitting duty ratio of the frame period 15 corresponding to the frame frequency FR-i, when switching to a specific frame frequency FR-j (j is 1 to N-1) (in this example, 60Hz, 68.6Hz, 80Hz, or 96Hz) other than the highest frame frequency FR-N (in this example, 120Hz) for display driving, the number of light emitting pulses applied by the light emitting duty ratio control unit 113 is M, M is determined by dividing the frame period 15 corresponding to the specific frame frequency FR-j by a basic light emitting pulse period (emission cycle time), and the basic light emitting pulse period is determined by dividing the frame period 151 corresponding to the highest frame frequency FR-N by N. In this example, since the basic light emission pulse period is 1/120 sec/4 sec to 1/480 sec, when the display driving is performed at a frame frequency of 96Hz, the number M of light emission pulses applied by the light emission duty control unit 113 is 1/96 sec/1/480 sec to 5; when the display driving is performed at a frame frequency of 80Hz, the number M of light emission pulses applied by the light emission duty control unit 113 is 1/80 sec/1/480 sec/6; when display driving is performed at a frame frequency of 68.6Hz, the number M of light emission pulses applied by the light emission duty control section 113 is 1/68.6 sec/1/480 sec or 7; when the display driving is performed at the frame frequency of 60Hz, the number M of light emission pulses applied by the light emission duty control unit 113 is 1/60 sec/1/480 sec/8. In this way, the number of light-emitting pulses corresponding to one frame frequency between any two frame frequencies can be calculated.
Furthermore, a light emitting pulse period corresponding to the specific frame rate FR-j is a frame period 15 divided by M corresponding to the specific frame rate. In this example, the frame frequency of 96Hz corresponds to a light pulse period of 1/96 sec/5-1/480 sec; the light-emitting pulse period corresponding to the frame frequency of 80Hz is 1/80 seconds/6-1/480 seconds; the light emitting pulse period corresponding to the frame frequency of 68.6Hz is 1/68.6 seconds/7-1/480.2 seconds; the frame frequency of 60Hz corresponds to a light emission pulse period of 1/60 sec/8 sec 1/480 sec. In this way, the light-emitting pulse period corresponding to one frame frequency between any two frame frequencies can be calculated. It should be noted that the calculated light-emitting pulse period can be adjusted to make M light-emitting pulses completely applied to the frame period 15 corresponding to the specific frame rate FR-j, and the light-emitting duty ratio of the frame period 15 corresponding to the specific frame rate FR-j is maintained to be the fixed default value.
In addition, each frame frequency corresponds to a light emitting frequency, which is defined as the frame frequency multiplied by the number of light emitting pulses, and as shown in fig. 3, the light emitting frequencies of 120Hz, 96Hz, 80Hz, 68.6Hz, and 60Hz are 480Hz, 480.2Hz, and 480Hz, respectively, which are substantially equal or have a very small amount of change. It should be noted that, when the variation of the light emitting frequency corresponding to one frame frequency between any two frame frequencies is large, the variation of the light emitting frequency corresponding to the frame frequency can be reduced by adjusting the light emitting pulse period of the frame frequency or increasing the number of the light emitting pulses.
As can be seen from the above description, the active matrix organic light emitting diode display driving apparatus 11 of the present invention can avoid the variation in display due to frame frequency switching by simply controlling the display driving time and the light emitting duty ratio of the whole frame to be constant, thereby effectively achieving the purpose of changing the frame frequency but not the panel brightness.
The above-described embodiments are merely exemplary for convenience in explanation, and the scope of the claims of the present invention should be determined by the claims and not limited to the above-described embodiments.
