Description
Technical Field
The present invention relates to a tipping paper embossed with organoleptic or functional actives.
Background
The tipping paper is the wrapper of the rod-shaped tobacco product which is in contact with the lips of the user. Rod-shaped tobacco products are also explicitly referred to as "next generation products", e.g. heated tobacco products with tipping paper, or tobacco heated products or heat-not-combustible products.
Conventional rod-shaped tobacco products, such as filter cigarettes or conventional cigarette tubes or so-called "next generation products" (heated tobacco products or tobacco heating products or heat-not-burn products), include, in addition to tobacco-containing tobacco strands (strand) and filters, wrappers (e.g. cigarette paper), filter wrappers and tipping papers that wrap tobacco-containing tobacco strands.
Tipping paper, often referred to simply as "tipping", typically wraps the filter and the filter wrapper. Which is part of a filter cigarette, the tipping paper comes into contact with the lips of the smoker when smoking. The tipping paper typically extends in the longitudinal direction of the filter cigarette, but also extends slightly to the longitudinal region of the tobacco strand where it surrounds the cigarette paper and is joined thereto by adhesive. The filter portion and the tobacco strand portion are mechanically joined in the cigarette maker by creating such a bond. The tipping paper is typically paper, but may also be a film or foil. Where the tipping paper is formed as a film or foil, it may for example consist of cellulose hydrate. The tipping paper typically has a visually appealing printed pattern. The pattern is usually like a cork.
In this document, tipping paper is understood to mean a wrapper which wraps the area of the rod-shaped tobacco product which is in contact with the lips of the user in the form of a paper, film or laminate.
Us patent 2013093117(a1) describes a method of embossing a web, particularly a tipping paper web, using an embossing roll.
US2015237912(a1) describes a layer structure of a smoking article having a layer beneath the tipping paper which is impermeable to the organoleptic substance. In one embodiment variant, the organoleptic substance is applied to the outside of the tipping paper. In another embodiment, the sensory substance is located between the tipping paper and the barrier layer, wherein the sensory substance may be located in a depression in the barrier layer or in a depression on the underside of the tipping paper, wherein the depression may be created by embossing.
EP2702881a1 discloses a method for processing a web of wrapping material in the form of a filter paper, wherein the web of wrapping material is sprayed with a fluid after an embossing device. The fluid is used to stabilize the deformation of the web of wrapping material. The fluid may contain a fragrance carrier or color. The embossing device deforms the web of wrapping material in an undulating manner such that an undulating middle layer is formed in the filter, which may be used to allow air to flow through the filter. The embossing structure is designed to be so coarse that the web of wrapping material is completely deformed, but no depressions are produced in the material of the web of wrapping material. Since the web of wrapping material forms the middle layer of the filter, it is not on the outside of the finished tobacco and therefore cannot come into contact with the lips.
WO2014060455a1 describes a method of providing a faceted non-cylindrical surface to an outer wrapper. The facets may be created by needle embossing the material to weaken it along its contour. Needle embossing creates holes in the material.
A disadvantage of the prior art is that sensory or functional actives which are attached to the outside of the tipping paper and which are mostly soluble in water or saliva can usually be perceived or active only in a short time, since in the case of direct contact with the lips, several puffs on the smoking article will remove these from the surface of the tipping paper due to the human saliva.
A disadvantage of a layered structure with an organoleptic or functional active under the tipping paper is that these substances are less pronounced or that the production of such a layered structure is generally more complicated.
Disclosure of Invention
The object of the present invention is to provide a rod-shaped tobacco product with a simple device, which has an organoleptic or functional active substance in the tip region, which is still noticeable or active over a longer period of time, i.e. after a number of puffs.
In order to achieve this object, it is proposed that a sensory or functional active substance is applied to the side of the tipping paper forming the outside of the rod-shaped tobacco product, wherein in a first method step the web of material (web ) is provided with an embossed structure and wound on a reel, and in a second method step the web of embossed material is unwound from the reel, separated and glued to the tobacco product such that the tipping paper forms the outside of the tobacco product at least in the region in contact with the lips of the user, wherein before or after embossing in the first method step and/or after unwinding from the reel or tipping paper in the second method step the web of embossed material on the finished tobacco product is provided with at least one sensory or functional active substance on the side forming the outside of the tobacco product.
The tobacco product, which may have a tipping paper, may in particular be selected from the group of tobacco products comprising: cigarettes; a filter-tipped cigarette; a filter cigarillo; a tobacco strand for an electronic tobacco heater; a heat non-combustible cigarette.
The tobacco strand has a tobacco-containing strand and at least one filter, both of which are wrapped by at least one wrapper. In the case of a tobacco strand, tipping paper is understood to be a layer of material that contacts the lips of the user, i.e. a material that wraps around at least a portion of the area that protrudes from the electric tobacco heater.
The front end of the heat not burn cigarette has a heat source, which is usually in the form of a block of charcoal. Unlike a conventional cigarette, the tobacco-containing portion is not combusted, but rather heated air flows through. In the case of a heat-not-burn cigarette, tipping paper is understood to be a layer of material which comes into contact with the lips of the user, i.e. a material which wraps at least the end region of the heat-not-burn cigarette opposite the heat source.
The advantage of the present invention over the prior art is that due to the embossed structure, and in particular due to the compression of the tipping material in the embossed depression areas, the organoleptic or functional active substance, although present on the outside, can be acquired for a longer time. Embossing reduces the contact area between the tipping paper and the lips, which means that on a rod-shaped tobacco product less sensory or functional active is removed from the surface per puff, making it more accessible or active. In addition, embossing simultaneously represents a mechanical operation on the paper surface, so that the organoleptic or functional active substances adhere/bind better to the surface of the tipping paper.
Preferably, in the second method step, the sensory or functional active is provided to the web of embossed material after unwinding from a reel or tipping paper on the finished tobacco product.
This avoids the disadvantage that, when the sensory or functional active is applied directly after embossing the embossed structure, the embossed structure or the sensory or functional active may again be partially lost when the material web is guided through additional drums or rollers.
Less preferably, the sensory or functional active may be applied first, followed by the embossing process. In this embodiment variant according to the invention, the previously applied sensory or functional active is pressed more firmly or even further into the material web by subsequent embossing, or is compressed at the depressions on the surface of the material web, so that here too a longer perceptibility can be produced, but with the disadvantage that the sensory or functional active can accumulate on the embossing roller or be partially removed again from the surface of the material web during embossing.
According to the invention, it is also possible to apply the substance before and after embossing, or in several successive steps, wherein the organoleptic or functional active is applied in at least one step. Furthermore, a lacquer layer may be applied which is free of sensory or functional actives, for example as a pre-treatment of the material web before applying the sensory or functional actives or after the sensory or functional actives have been applied to the material web, for example to fix the sensory or functional actives or to prevent them from being rubbed off.
The tipping paper is preferably embossed by continuously moving the web between structured embossing rollers such that the structure of the embossing rollers is transferred to the web.
The sensory substance or functional active is preferably applied by dispersing or dissolving it in a liquid carrier substance and applying, particularly preferably spraying, the liquid carrier substance. Printing, brushing, pouring or sandblasting processes are suitable for applying the organoleptic or functional active substances. Preferably, water-or alcohol-based and/or organic solvents are used as carrier substances for the sensory substances or functional active substances. The mixture of organoleptic or functional actives and solvent particularly preferably also comprises a film-forming agent. For example, the sensory or functional active substance can be applied together with a varnish, particularly preferably with a nitrocellulose varnish, shellac, ethylcellulose varnish or polyethylene wax-styrene acrylate or other varnish based on polymers or biopolymers.
The sensory substance is preferably perceived as a tasting or scented substance, or a substance that elicits a warming or cooling sensation, such as menthol. The sensory substance is preferably a flavoring.
Other functional substances, in particular deodorizing substances or odour-neutralizing substances, can be used. In addition, a care substance such as lip gloss may be used as the functional substance.

Detailed Description
As schematically shown in fig. 1, in a first step the material web 1 is preferably unwound from a first reel 2, on which an embossing structure is provided by an embossing device, in particular an embossing roller 3, thereby producing an embossed material web 4, which embossed material web 4 is subsequently wound onto a reel 5.
As schematically shown in fig. 2, in a first variant of the second step, the embossed web 4 is unwound from a reel 5 and moved through an application device 6, in which application device 6 a sensory or functional active 7 is applied, so as to obtain an embossed web 8 coated with the sensory or functional active 7. The coated embossed web of material 8 is cut to obtain separate tipping papers 9, wherein preferably after separation a double- ply tipping paper 9a, 9b with a first tipping paper 9a and a second tipping paper 9b is first obtained.
Each tipping wrapper 9 is placed around the rod-shaped member 10 and glued or bonded to the rod-shaped member 10 such that the tipping wrapper 9 surrounds the rod-shaped member 10 on the outside to form a finished rod-shaped tobacco product 11 according to the invention. The rod-shaped member 10 preferably comprises a filter with a filter wrapper and a tobacco strand with a wrapper.
In the case of a double-strand production, after application of the double- strand tipping paper 9a, 9b, the double-strand tobacco product is cut into two halves, so as to obtain two finished tobacco products 11a and 11b according to the invention.
The variant shown in figure 2 has the advantage that the sensory or functional active 7 can be applied continuously to the embossed web 4 and is technically easier to apply than on the finished tobacco product 11.
In a second variant embodiment of the second step, schematically shown in figure 3, the embossed web 4 is unwound from the reel 5 and cut to obtain separate tipping papers 9, the tipping papers 9 preferably being present as two strands after separation, comprising a first tipping paper 9a and a second tipping paper 9 b.
Each tipping paper 9 is placed around the rod-shaped member 10 and glued or glued to the rod-shaped member 10 such that the tipping paper 9 surrounds the rod-shaped member 10 on the outside to form the tobacco product 11, 11a, 11 b. The rod-shaped member 10 preferably comprises a filter with a filter wrapper and a tobacco strand with a wrapper.
Using the application device 6, the sensory or functional active 7 is then applied to the outside of the tipping paper 9 of the tobacco product 11, thereby obtaining a finished rod-shaped tobacco product 11 according to the invention.
In the case of a double strand production, after application of the double tipping paper 9a, 9b, the double strand tobacco product 11a, 11b is cut into two halves to obtain two tobacco products 11a, 11b, wherein the organoleptic or functional active 7 can be applied before or after separation of the double strand tobacco products 11a, 11b, so as to obtain two finished tobacco products 11a and 11b according to the invention.
The variant of fig. 3 has the advantage that the sensory or functional active 7 is applied only at the end, thus preventing the sensory or functional active 7 from being rubbed into the system by the webs 4, 8, or during the separation and gluing of the tipping papers 9, 9a, 9 b.
The material web 1 is preferably paper, in particular base paper for the production of tipping paper, which typically has a grammage of 30 to 50 g/m.
Less preferably, the material web 1 may also be a film material or cellophane.
The embossed structures of the embossed material web 4 preferably have depressions with a depth of at least 5 μm.
The embossed structure of the embossed material web 4 has depressions preferably with a maximum depth of at most 80 μm.
The embossed structure of the embossed material web 4 preferably has depressions with a maximum depth of at most 50 μm.
The depressions are particularly preferably in the range from at least 15 μm to a maximum of 35 μm.
The embossed structure may form a regular pattern.
The individual depressions of the embossing structure are preferably separated from each other.
The area of the individual depressions of the embossed structure is preferably at least 4 μm2。
The area of the individual depressions of the embossed structure is preferably not more than 16 μm2。
The surface area of the depressions of the embossed structure is preferably at least 25% to a maximum of 75% of the total area of the embossed regions.
In one embodiment variant, the embossing extends over the entire area of the embossed material web 4.
In another embodiment variant, the embossing structure extends only over the central area or over the edge area or over both edge areas of the embossed web 4.
The embossed structure preferably extends continuously, i.e. without interruptions, in the longitudinal direction of the embossed web 4.
The width of the material web 1 is preferably twice the dimension of the tipping paper 9 in the longitudinal direction of the tobacco product 11. Such a material web 1 is referred to as doubled web in the following.
The material web 1 may also be wider during the embossing process. For example, the width of the web of material 1 may be four times, six times, eight times, etc. the dimension of the tipping paper 9 in the longitudinal direction of the tobacco product 11. After embossing or after applying the sensory or functional active 7, the wide material web 4 is preferably cut into two-ply webs, or less preferably into single webs.
The embossed structures may be arranged symmetrically around the centre line of the doubled web.
In one embodiment, the two halves of the doubled web have different embossing structures. In another embodiment variant, only one of the two halves of the doubled web has an embossed structure.
In another embodiment variant, two different halves of the doubled web or halves with different embossments are subsequently provided with different organoleptic or functional actives 7.
In this way, it is advantageously possible to produce two different types of tobacco products 11a, 11b simultaneously in a two-strand production, wherein these products particularly preferably differ in both structure and organoleptic or functional active substances 7. If different types of tobacco products 11a, 11b are packed together in one box, they can be differentiated on the basis of structure even before their organoleptic or functional active 7 is perceived or activated.
Advantageously, the different types of tobacco products 11a, 11b can have a uniform colour print, and thus a uniform appearance, and can still be distinguished. However, it is also possible to print the two halves of the double strand in different colors.
The sensory or functional active 7 is preferably applied by spraying the web of embossed material 4 or the individual tipping papers 9 or 9a, 9b on the two-ply or finished tobacco products 11, 11a, 11 b.
The spraying can be carried out over the entire area of the embossed material web 4, for example by means of application nozzles, in order to provide the embossed material web 4 with the sensory substance or functional active 7. Spraying can be done with an ink jet device so that application can be made according to a definable pattern. For example, only the depressions of the embossed structure may be particularly provided with sensory or functional actives 7.
Advantageously, the contactless application of the organoleptic or functional active 7 by spraying and/or ink-jetting does not affect the embossed structure, as is the case with the less preferred gravure printing process and the related application process, in which the web is located between printing plates or printing rollers. As other possible application methods, coating or pouring methods or aromatic bath methods may be used for applying these substances.
In fig. 4 to 9, a preferred variant of the double tipping paper 9a, 9b is shown by way of example. Of course, the design of the individual tipping papers 9a, 9b of the double ply tipping papers 9a, 9b may be selected as desired.
Figure 4 shows two fully embossed tipping papers 9a, 9b of a double-ply tipping paper, which can be achieved by continuously embossing the web 1 with an embossing roller 3 having a uniform structure.
Figure 5 shows the two tipping papers 9a, 9b of the double-ply tipping paper that have been embossed over a partial region, which can be achieved by continuously embossing the web of material 1 in the region around the intersecting dashed lines of the double-ply tipping paper with an embossing roller of uniform structure. If the two strands of tobacco product are separated at the cut line, two tobacco products 11a, 11b are obtained, each having an embossing on the rear surface area facing away from the tobacco strands.
Figure 6 shows two different embossed tipping papers 9a, 9b of a double-ply tipping paper, which can be achieved by continuously embossing the web 1 with an embossing roller 3 having a uniform structure. The embossing structure of the embossing roller 3 is arranged so as to produce a fully embossed tipping paper 9a and a partially embossed tipping paper 9 b.
Figure 7 shows two different tipping papers 9a, 9b of a double-ply tipping paper, which can be achieved by continuously embossing the web 1 with an embossing roller 3 having a uniform structure. The embossing structure of the embossing roller 3 is arranged such that a partially embossed tipping paper 9a and an unembossed tipping paper 9b are produced.
Figure 8 shows two tipping papers 9a, 9b of the double-ply tipping paper embossed with different structures respectively on part of the surface, which can be achieved by continuously embossing the web of material 1 in the region around the intersecting dashed lines of the double-ply tipping paper with embossing rollers 3 having different structures. If the two strands of tobacco product are separated at the cutting line, two tobacco products 11a, 11b are obtained having an embossing on the rear surface area of their tipping papers 9a, 9b facing away from the tobacco strands, respectively, wherein the tobacco products 11a, 11b differ by their embossing structure.
Fig. 9 shows two tipping papers 9a, 9b of the double-ply tipping paper, each embossed with a different structure on a partial surface, which can be achieved by continuously embossing the material web 1 with an embossing roller 3 having a different discontinuous structure in the region around the intersecting dashed lines of the double-ply tipping paper. The surface portions with an embossed structure may be arranged at a distance from each other in the longitudinal and/or transverse direction of the material web 4.
The application of the organoleptic or functional active 7 may be limited to only the embossed areas or completely to at least a portion of the area of the web 4. This means that the application of the sensory or functional active 7 can be, but need not be, aligned with the embossed structure.
For example, the sensory or functional active 7 may be applied continuously in the form of one or more stripes in the longitudinal direction of the web of material 4, for example by continuous spraying. For example, the sensory or functional active 7 can be applied discontinuously in the form of dots in the longitudinal direction of the material web 4, for example by means of a timed spray. For example, the material web may have locally defined, spaced-apart regions in which there is embossing and a sensory or functional active 7, so that the material web is in some regions an embossed material web 8 coated with the sensory or functional active 7.
Figure 10 shows a two- ply tobacco product 11a, 11b made from the underlying plies and layers of two- ply tobacco product 11a, 11b wrapped in the middle by a two- ply tipping paper 9a, 9b and bonded together.
In the example of figure 10, the two halves of the double tipping paper 9a, 9b have two different embossing structures, thus, after being cut in half along intersecting dashed lines, two tobacco products 11a and 11b are produced having embossing structures different from each other. It may also be advantageous to apply different sensory or functional actives 7 to different embossed structures to produce two types of tobacco products 11a, 11b together, the two types of tobacco products 11a, 11b having different sensory or functional actives 7 or different amounts of sensory or functional actives 7 and different embossed structures.
The different characteristics of the embossed structure of the two tipping papers 9a, 9b of the dual strand tobacco product may be selected from one or more of the following characteristics: presence or absence of an embossed structure; the depth of the embossed structure; the embossed structure extends longitudinally in the cross direction of the paper web; the proportion of the total area of the embossed structure in the longitudinal direction of the paper web; the area of each embossed depression; the total area of the depression; the shape of the recess; the number of depressions; the arrangement of the recesses; a pattern of recesses.
The difference in the characteristics of the organoleptic or functional active 7 of the two tipping papers 9a, 9b of the double-strand tobacco product may preferably be selected from the following group of characteristics: presence of sensory or functional active 7; type of sensory or functional active 7; the application surface extends longitudinally in the cross direction of the web; the ratio of the applied area to the total area in the longitudinal direction of the web; the area of each discrete application area; the total area of the application surface; the form of each discrete application surface; the number of application surfaces; an arrangement of application surfaces; applying a pattern of a surface; concentration of sensory or functional active 7; the type of action of the sensory or functional active 7; taste; the concentration of each sensory or functional active 7 in the sensory or functional active mixture; the area percentage of each sensory or functional active 7 in the sensory or functional active mixture.
Fig. 11 shows a less preferred embodiment variant for producing the tipping papers 9, 9a, 9b according to the invention, in which a substance is applied before winding onto the reel 5, before the embossing roller 3 and/or after the embossing roller 3, wherein according to fig. 2, 3, 12, it is also possible to apply a further substance after unwinding from the reel 5 in a subsequent second method step or after the tobacco products 10 have been produced. In fig. 11, as in fig. 1, the material web 1 is unwound from a first reel 2 and provided with an embossing structure by means of the embossing roller 3, so that an embossed material web 4 is produced, which embossed material web 4 is subsequently wound into a reel 5, wherein the embossed material web 4 can already be wound into the reel 5 as an embossed material web 4 coated with a sensory substance or functional active 7.
Advantageously, different substances may be applied before and after embossing. In this way, the substance applied before embossing penetrates deeper into the material, whereas the substance applied after embossing is shallower. The sensory or functional active 7 is preferably applied by at least one application device 6.
Fig. 12 shows how different substances with different properties are applied. Several application devices 6 are attached along the web of embossed material 4, for example in the form of nozzles or inkjet heads.
Each applicator 6 can apply a different sensory or functional active 7, resulting in an embossed web of material 8 coated with sensory or functional active 7, which embossed web of material 8 appears as tipping paper 9 or double- ply tipping paper 9a, 9b after cutting. These substances can be applied one on top of the other, or in several non-overlapping or only partially overlapping strips, or in several non-overlapping or only partially overlapping discrete surface areas along the material web 4.
The application areas advantageously do not overlap so that the sensory substances or functional actives 7 do not affect each other.
The substances or organoleptic or functional actives 7 applied by the different application devices 6 and/or the substances or organoleptic or functional actives 7 applied before and after embossing may in particular differ in one or more characteristics selected from the group of characteristics consisting of: presence of sensory or functional actives; type of sensory or functional active; the application surface extends longitudinally in the cross direction of the web; the ratio of the applied area to the total area in the longitudinal direction of the web; the area of each discrete application area; the total area of the application surface; the form of each discrete application surface; the number of application surfaces; an arrangement of application surfaces; applying a pattern of a surface; concentration of sensory or functional active; the type of action of the sensory or functional active; taste; the concentration of individual sensory or functional actives in the sensory or functional active mixture; the area percentage of the individual sensory or functional actives in the sensory or functional active mixture.
The organoleptic or functional active 7 may be selected from the group comprising: a flavoring agent; flavoring agents, including synthetic or natural flavoring agents, such as fruit or spice flavors, e.g., vanilla, cinnamon, or clove; a perfume; menthol; activated carbon; a deodorizing substance; odor-neutralizing substances, such as cyclodextrins or triethylene glycol; care substances, for example in the form of oils, fats or waxes.
Example 1
In order to produce tipping according to the inventionPaper, which is first embossed and then sprayed with a sweet taste solution. The saccharin content is 5.2g/m2。
Example 2
To produce the tipping paper according to the invention, it is first embossed and then printed with a sweetening solution in gravure printing. The saccharin content is 0.4g/m2。
Comparative examples
To produce the comparative paper, the tipping paper was printed with a sweet solution in gravure printing. The saccharin content is 1.81g/m2。
The same tests were carried out on tipping paper according to example 1 and example 2 and on comparative paper, respectively, to prove the effectiveness of the invention.
For the test, the imprint wipe was wetted with 3ml of saliva solution, the sample to be tested was pressed evenly against the imprint wipe and then lifted again, a process which is referred to as "imprinting" in the following. The residual saccharin content was determined by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) after each imprint, repeated several times for each sample. Smoking progress (saliva wetting during smoking) was simulated and analyzed by imprinting the sample using HPLC. The aim was to determine the flavour reduction by repeated imprinting, where it was tested whether the loss of flavour could be reduced by embossing.
In Table 1 below, the measured absolute amount of saccharin is in g/m2It is shown that for better comparison the percentage of saccharin content is based on the initial value of the amount applied and the percentage of saccharin content reduction is based on the initial value of the amount applied.
It can be seen from the experiments that the reduction in saccharin content of the tipping paper according to the invention is lower than that of the unembossed control paper.
In general, it can be considered that in the case of the tipping paper according to the invention, in which the base paper is embossed and provided with the sensory or functional active 7, the reduction in the sensory or functional active is less than in the case when the same base paper provided in the same way is used, which is not embossed but has the same substance.
TABLE 1
In the case of the tipping paper according to the invention, the reduction in the sensory or functional active 7 after the first contact with saliva or lips is preferably a maximum of 50%, preferably a maximum of 25%, in particular a maximum of 10% of the initial amount.
Preferably, in the case of the tipping paper according to the invention, the reduction of the sensory or functional active 7 after the first contact with saliva or lips is at most 90%, preferably at most 75%, in particular at most 50%, of the reduction of the tipping paper using the same base paper (provided in the same way, not embossed but with the same substance) and in the same way in contact with saliva or lips.
The residual content of organoleptic or functional actives 7 on the surface of the tipping paper 9 according to the invention is preferably higher after repeated contact with saliva or lips than tipping paper using the same base paper (provided in the same way, not embossed but with the same substances) and in contact with saliva or lips in the same way.
Preferably, the residual content of organoleptic or functional active 7 on the surface of the tipping paper 9 according to the invention, after the first, second and third contact with saliva or lips, is at least 125%, preferably at least 150%, in particular 200%, of the residual content of tipping paper which is used with the same base paper (provided in the same way, not embossed but with the same substance) and which is in the same way in the first, second and third contact with saliva or lips.
The unembossed regions of the tipping paper 9 according to the invention (provided with the sensory or functional active 7 in the same way) may be considered to be tipping paper having the same base paper (provided in the same way, unembossed but of the same substance).
The tipping paper 9 according to the invention preferably has an unembossed region and an embossed region, both of which are provided with the sensory or functional active 7.
The tipping paper 9 according to the invention preferably has a first embossed region whose embossed structure differs in at least one characteristic from the embossed structure of at least one second embossed region of the same tipping paper 9, both embossed regions being provided with a sensory or functional active 7.
Both measures above may advantageously ensure that the sensory or functional active 7 of the first region may be perceived faster and more strongly than the substance or functional active 7 of the second region, which substance or functional active 7 may be perceived for a longer time or later. The different embossed areas or embossed and unembossed areas may be present, for example, in the form of alternating bands along the longitudinal extension of the respective tipping paper 9 (longitudinal extension of the tobacco product 11; transverse direction of the web of material), as shown for tipping paper 9b in figure 8, or in the form of alternating stripes in the transverse direction of the tipping paper 9 (circumferential direction on the tobacco product 11; longitudinal direction of the web of material), as shown for tipping paper 9a in figure 8.
In general, the tipping paper 9 present on a single tobacco product 11 (i.e. the tipping paper 9) preferably has at least two distinct regions which differ in the presence or at least one characteristic of its embossed structure, with the sensory or functional active 7 applied in both regions. These characteristics may be selected from the group consisting of: the presence of an embossed structure; the depth of the embossed structure; the area of each embossed depression; the total area of the depression; the shape of the recess; the number of depressions; the arrangement of the recesses; a pattern of recesses.
The sensory substance or functional active 7 is preferably applied in the same way in at least two areas, i.e. in the same way and/or in the same amount, preferably by applying the sensory substance or functional active 7 with the same application means 6. Preferably, the amount of sensory or functional active 7 in the first region of the tipping paper 9 according to the invention is at most 90%, preferably at most 75%, in particular at most 50% of the amount of reduction in the second region of the tipping paper 9 after the first contact with saliva or lips.
