Abstract

The present invention discloses packaging for dental treatment products. The package includes an inner container and an outer sleeve having at least one open end to receive the inner container, the outer sleeve including a window through which the dental treatment product is visible to a consumer.

The present disclosure relates to product packaging for dental treatment products. More specifically, the present disclosure relates to packaging assemblies having a slidable tray portion for holding and displaying dental treatment products.

Background technique

There are a wide variety of commercially available product packages. In many cases, the packaging is designed to meet specific functional needs. For example, packaging may be designed to meet certain dimensional constraints, a certain shelf life, or specific product protection specifications.

The package can also be designed such that the exterior of the package is used to convey information to the consumer. For example, the exterior of the package can be printed to provide consumers with product information, such as product ingredients. In addition, the exterior surface of the package may also contain artwork, logos and other information to aid in the marketing of the product contained within the package.

However, there remains a continuing need for new types of packaging that can provide an improved balance between functional needs and marketing and communication needs.

Contents of the invention

According to one embodiment, the present invention provides a package for a dental treatment product. The package includes an inner container having a front portion and a rear portion, the front portion including a recessed portion therein to contain a tooth treatment product; a cover joined to the front portion of the inner container, the cover having a height smaller than the inner the corresponding height of the recessed portion of the container, the difference in height defines a ridge between the top side of the cover and the recessed portion; having at least one open end to receive the outer sleeve of the inner container, the outer sleeve including the tooth treatment product through which the a consumer-visible window; and a detent tab provided adjacent at least one open end of the outer sleeve and configured to releasably engage the ridge. The inner container is moveable through at least one open end of the outer sleeve by disengaging the detent tab from the ridge.

According to the present disclosure, a package for a dental treatment product is described having a sleeve and an inner container intended to hold the dental treatment product. Although embodiments are described herein in the context of packaging for dental treatment products, such as strips of material for delivering oral care substances, embodiments are not limited thereto. The term "tooth treatment product" is intended to refer to an article comprising an oral care substance which can be manually applied to the tooth surface. In some embodiments, the tooth treatment product includes a barrier layer to which the oral care substance is applied for delivery of the oral care substance to the surface of one or more teeth. Barrier layers include, but are not limited to, strips of material. In another embodiment, the dental treatment product can be deposited on a release liner.

Integral, applied or coated on the strip of material is an "oral care substance", which in some embodiments may be a homogeneous fluid, which is evenly and continuously applied to the strip of material. However, the oral care substance can also be a laminate or separate layers of multiple components, an amorphous mixture of multiple components, separate strips or dots or other patterns of different components, or a combination of these structures, including in An oral care substance applied continuously along the longitudinal axis on a portion of the strip of material. An oral care substance may contain active ingredients, or be itself an active ingredient, such as a combination capable of affecting, or producing a desired change in, the appearance and/or structure of a surface in contact with it substance, compound or mixture. Embodiments described herein can be used in other additional oral care products such as tooth powders, dental floss, concentrated mouthwashes, concentrated toothpaste, solid tooth powders, denture adhesives, chewing gum, and the like.

As used herein, "oral condition" refers to diseases or conditions of the oral cavity, including caries, plaque, sensitivity, halitosis, tooth erosion, gingivitis, and periodontal disease.

As used herein, the phrase "oral care active" is intended to refer to any substance that is safe for use in the oral cavity, and which provides a change in the overall health of the oral cavity, and in particular, the condition of the surfaces of the oral cavity that the oral care substance contacts. change.

Referring now to FIG. 1 , an outer sleeve 20 for packaging of dental treatment products may be formed from a flat, one-piece blank 21 . In certain embodiments, the blank is formed into sleeve 20 by folding and gluing. The blank 21 may comprise a series of panels including a front panel 22 , a back panel 23 , and a side panel 24 . The panels are hinged one after the other in series along fold lines 25 and 26 . Blank 21 may also include a back panel 27 hinged to back panel 23 along fold line 28 . In certain embodiments, the backsheet 27 may include additional fold lines 29 to provide flexibility to the backsheet 27 . The backsheet 27 also includes flaps 30 and fold lines 31 for folding and attaching the backsheet 27 to the front sheet 22 by means of the flaps 30 when formed into the sleeve 20 .

The sleeve 20 may be made of cardboard, paperboard, corrugated cardboard, boxboard, paper, cardstock, mixtures or combinations thereof, or any other foldable sheet material. As used herein, the term "sleeve" refers to a hollow member having substantially fixed dimensions, such as in comparison to a rubber band of elastic dimensions, having at least one open end, and having any cross-sectional shape, including, for example Triangle, square, rectangle, pentagon, hexagon, heptagon, octagon and circle.

As shown in FIG. 1 , sleeve 20 may include at least one window 32 defined therein to allow visual inspection of the contents of package 10 therethrough. In one embodiment, window 32 may have one or more transparent regions. As used herein, "transparent" means having the property of transmitting light without substantially scattering it so that an object located in front is visible to a person. In some embodiments, window 32 may include a transparent covering such as, for example, a transparent film. In another embodiment, window 32 may comprise an opening in sleeve 20 that does not include a cover material.

Exemplary materials from which the window 32 can be made include, but are not limited to, polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), polycarbonate (PC), polyamide (PA), polyethylene terephthalate (PETE ), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), general purpose polystyrene (GPPS) and polystyrene (PS). The transparent material used to make the window 32 can also be used to make the rest of the sleeve 20 (not including the window 32), and in some embodiments, the material making up the rest of the sleeve 20 can be colored, tinted , frosted, shaded, or patterned to make the sleeve 20 opaque or substantially opaque. The material making up the window 32 can also be tinted, tinted, frosted, shaded, or patterned, so long as the window 32 remains substantially transparent so that the tooth treatment product 200 can pass through the window 32 from the outside of the package 10. In FIG. 1, window 32 is shown having a generally trapezoidal shape. As further shown in FIG. 1 , the sleeve 20 may also include a stop tab 33 and a fold line 34 positioned at the open end of the outer sleeve 20 . The detent tabs 33 are configured to cause locking of the inner container in the sleeve 20, which is described in more detail below. As can be seen in FIG. 1 , the stop lug 33 has a substantially trapezoidal shape. However, the stop projection 33 may have any shape other than a trapezoid, including triangular, square, rectangular, pentagonal, hexagonal, heptagonal, and octagonal. In one embodiment, the stop lug 33 comprises a tab integrally formed on one of the plates of the outer sleeve.

To assemble the outer sleeve 20, the blank 21 is folded along fold lines 26 and the side panels 24 are folded along fold lines 25 and joined to the back panel 23 in any conventionally known manner. Next, the chassis 27 is attached to the front panel 22 by folding the flap 30 along the fold line 31 and joining it to the front panel 22 in any conventionally known manner. Thus, blank 21 is formed into outer sleeve 20 as shown in FIG. 2 .

Referring now to Figures 3 and 4, the inner container 100 is shown. According to one embodiment, the inner container 100 may include at least two parts that are foldable relative to each other. As shown in FIG. 3 , the inner container 100 may include a front portion 101 having a recess 103 therein for receiving a dental treatment product 200 . Adjacent to the front portion 101, a rear portion 102 may be positioned. As shown, the front portion 101 and the rear portion 102 may be integrally joined to each other along a hinged fold line 104 . However, in some embodiments, the front portion 101 and the rear portion 102 may be discrete from each other.

Still referring to FIG. 3 , the front portion 101 may include one or more receiving regions 105 , whereas the rear portion 102 may include one or more engagement regions 106 . When assembled, the engagement area 106 engages the receiving area 105 . The outer surface of the engagement area 106 may form an interference fit with the inner surface of the receiving area 105 when contact is made by folding the front portion 101 and the rear portion 102 . Interaction between the engagement area 106 and the receiving area 105 may facilitate alignment of the front portion 101 and the rear portion 102 . Additionally, the interference fit between the engagement area 106 and the receiving area 105 helps maintain the inner container 100 in the closed position. Engagement area 106 or receiving area 105 may be positioned in any suitable location. For example, the receiving area 105 may be positioned adjacent to the outer edge of the front portion 101 in order to avoid interference with the recess 103 .

In some embodiments, the inner container 100 may be made of a relatively rigid material such as, for example, cardboard, paperboard, boxboard, particle board, plywood, styrene, metal, plastic, paper, cardstock, fabric, ceramic, rigid foam Plastic - made of such expandable polystyrene, polymers, natural or synthetic fibers, webs, meshes, screens, composites, mixtures or combinations thereof, or any other suitable material. In another embodiment, inner container 100 may be composed of clear plastic. Suitable plastics can be selected, for example, from the following materials: polymers and copolymers of ethylene, propylene, butane, butadiene, polystyrene, acetates, butyrates, propionates and vinyl resins and other plastics.

As shown in FIGS. 5 and 6 , in some embodiments, the inner container 100 may include a removable cover 120 to at least partially cover the recess 103 to secure and protect the dental treatment product disposed within the recess 103 200. The cover 120 may be configured to attach or engage the front portion 101 of the inner container 100 so as to provide some resistance to separation of the cover 120 and the inner container 100 . As shown in FIG. 6 , the cover 120 has a height smaller than that of the inner container 100 for at least partially covering the recess 103 , whereas the width of the cover 120 and the inner container 100 are about the same. In another embodiment, the cover 120 has a height smaller than the height of the recess 103 , however the width of the cover 120 is greater than the width of the recess 103 . The height difference between the cover 120 and the inner container 100 or the recess 103 defines a ridge 125 between a portion of the cover 120 and the recess 103 . The cover 120 may be formed of a transparent material. However, it is within the scope of the present disclosure that cover 120 be formed from any other suitable material.

Referring to FIG. 6 , the inner container 100 and cover 120 are shown in an assembled state with the engagement area 106 connected to the receiving area 105 . Ridges 125 are also shown. 7, in order to assemble the final package 10, the tooth treatment product 200 is placed in the recess 130 of the inner container 100, and the cover 120 is placed to partially cover the recess 130 and the inner container 100 so as to secure the tooth treatment product in proper location. In one embodiment, the assembled inner container 100 is then partially slid into the outer sleeve 20 such that the front portion 101 of the inner container 100 contacts and faces the rear panel 23 of the sleeve 20 as shown in FIG. 8 . Thus, the rear portion 102 of the inner container 100 contacts and faces the front piece 22 of the sleeve 20 . As the inner container 100 is slid into the sleeve 20 , the stop tab 33 remains folded such that the ridge 125 of the cover 120 does not engage the sleeve 20 . As shown in FIG. 9 , the inner container 100 is slid further into the outer sleeve 20 and is fully seated within the sleeve 20 such that the inner container 100 containing the dental treatment product 200 is visible through the window 32 in the outer sleeve 20 .

How the stop tab 33 prevents easy removal of the inner container 100 from the open end of the outer sleeve 20 will now be explained with reference to FIGS. 10 and 11 . Specifically, FIG. 11 shows a detent tab 33 that engages or otherwise abuts the ridge 125 of the cover 120 to lock the inner container 100 within the outer sleeve 20 or otherwise prevent the inner container 100 from being easily removed from the remove it. More specifically, the folded portion of the stop tab 33 folds into the interior of the outer sleeve 20 and as the inner container 100 slides out of the outer sleeve 20, the stop tab 33 captures the ridge 125 so that the inner container is prevented from being removed from the outer sleeve. Pull out the tube 20. When the detent tabs 33 engage the ridges 125, about 30% to about 80% of the inner container is external to the outer sleeve 20.
