Abstract
含有聚合物添加剂的粘合剂组合物,该添加剂由选自C1~C20的烷基和环烷基的丙烯酸酯、C1~C20的烷基和环烷基的甲基丙烯酸酯、可自由基聚合的烯属酸等单体和选择性的其它烯属不饱和单体聚合而成,其中所述聚合物添加剂的数均分子量低于约35000,软化点大于约40℃。
Description
常规上使用天然及合成橡胶作为压敏胶粘剂,但这些橡胶本身所必需的剥离强度、抗剪强度和粘着性等性能不平衡。橡胶基粘合剂一般需要添加象松香酸衍生物或脂族/芳香族树脂类增粘剂,改善作为压敏胶粘剂的使用性能。
还发现丙烯酸聚合物在压敏胶粘剂应用上的用途。在大多数应用中,该材料不必与增粘剂树脂混用。但近来T.G.Wood的“The effects of Tackification on Waterborne Acrylic Pressure-Sensitive Adhesive”一文[Adhesive Age,Vol,30,pp.19-23(1987)]的论述表明,增粘剂提供了一种改进压敏胶粘剂的简便而有效的手段。在Han dbook of Pressure-Sensitive Adhesive Technology一书[edited by Don Satas,Van Nostrand Reinhold Co.,pp,353-369,(1982)]中可看到对压敏胶粘剂的详细论述。
日本专利公开No54-3136公开了一种含丙烯酸聚合物和增粘剂的压敏胶粘剂。通过使25-75%(重量)的乙烯基芳族化合物与75~25%(重量)的丙烯酸或甲基丙烯酸酯进行溶液聚合制备增粘剂,其数均分子量为500~3000,软化点低于40℃。
美国专利3,867,481公开了一种低分子量丙烯酸聚合物,它含有(1)甲基丙烯酸烷基酯(2)一种或多种其它的丙烯酸、甲基丙烯酸酯和/或苯乙烯,用作硬聚卤乙烯树脂的加工改进剂。美国专利4,056,559公开了一种平均链长为约6至约50链节的甲基丙烯酸烷基酯的低分子量聚合
物,它广泛用于薄膜、涂料、粘合剂和油墨等用途。
本申请人发现,在压敏胶粘剂中混入软化点大于40℃的聚合物添加剂可使其得到改进。本发明的聚合物添加剂可使包括剥离强度、抗剪强度和粘着性在内的粘合剂性能的平衡获得改进。与混合有典型市售增粘剂的粘合剂相比,本发明的聚合物添加剂对薄膜透明度和紫外线稳定性有所改进。
本发明涉及含聚合物添加剂的改进的粘合剂组合物。该聚合物添加剂以选自C1~C20的烷基和环烷基的丙烯酸酯、C1~C20烷基和环烷基的甲基丙烯酸酯、可自由基聚合的烯属酸的单体和选择性其它烯属不饱和单体等聚合而成。聚合物添加剂的数均分子量低于约35000,软化点大于约40℃。以干重量计,添加剂占粘合剂组合物的约1%至约55%,且以乳液聚合反应制备为佳,单体选自甲基丙烯酸异丁酯、甲基丙烯酸丁酯、甲基丙烯酸异冰片酯、甲基丙烯酸环己酯、甲基丙烯酸乙酯、甲基丙烯酸甲酯、甲基丙烯酸、丙烯酸、苯乙烯、α-甲基苯乙烯和乙烯基甲苯。该粘合剂组合物最好是含乙烯、乙酸乙烯酯、丙烯酸或其酯或甲基丙烯酯或其酯的聚合物或共聚物的压敏胶粘剂与本发明的聚合物添加剂的混合物。
本申请人发明了一种含有高软化点的较低分子量聚合物添加剂的改进粘合剂组合物。与不含添加剂的粘合剂组合物相比,含有这些添加剂的粘合剂组合物具有均衡的改进性能。本发明的粘合剂组合物尤其具有均衡改进的粘着性、剥离强度和抗剪强度,而不会有在使用传统的松香或烃增粘剂时所带来的透明度和耐紫外线方面的问题。
本发明的聚合物添加剂由选自C1~C20烷基和环烷基的丙烯酸酯、C1~C20烷基和环烷基的甲基丙烯酸酯、可自由基聚合的烯属酸等单体和选择性其它烯属不饱和单体聚合而成。适用的烷基和环烷基的丙烯酸酯包括丙烯酸甲酯、丙烯酸乙酯、丙烯酸正丙酯、丙烯酸异丙酯、丙烯酸正丁酯、丙烯酸异丁酯、丙烯酸叔丁酯、丙烯酸异冰片酯、丙烯酸戊酯、丙烯酸己酯、丙烯酸辛酯、丙烯酸异辛酯、丙烯酸壬酯、丙烯酸十二烷酯、丙烯酸十八烷酯、丙烯酸二十烷酯、丙烯酸2-乙基己酯、丙烯酸环己酯、丙烯酸环庚酯及其混合物等各种丙烯酸酯。适用的烷基和环烷基的甲基丙烯酸酯包括甲基丙烯酸甲酯、甲基丙烯酸乙酯、甲基丙烯酸丙酯、甲基丙烯酸正丁酯、甲基丙烯酸叔丁酯、甲基丙烯酸异丁酯、甲基丙烯酸戊酯、甲基丙烯酸己酯、甲基丙烯酸环己酯、甲基丙烯酸-2-乙基己酯、甲基丙烯酸异冰片酯、甲基丙烯酸庚酯、甲基丙烯酸环庚酯、甲基丙烯酸辛酯、甲基丙烯酸壬酯、甲基丙烯酸癸酯、甲基丙烯酸十二烷酯、甲基丙烯酸二十烷酯及其混合物等甲基丙烯酸酯。适用的可自由基聚合的烯属酸包括丙烯酸、甲基丙烯酸、富马酸、巴豆酸、衣康酸,2-丙烯酰氧基丙酸等及其混合物。还可选择性使用各种用量的其它烯属不饱和单体,使聚合物添加剂的软化点大于约40℃,数均分子量小于约35000。例如,适合于按本发明使用的选择性烯属不饱和单体包括苯乙烯、α-甲基苯乙烯、乙烯基甲苯、丙烯腈、甲基丙烯腈、乙烯、乙酸乙烯酯、氯乙烯、1,1-二氯乙烯、丙烯酰胺、甲基丙烯酰胺、丙烯酸-2-氰乙酯、甲基丙烯酸-2-氰乙酯、甲基丙烯酸二甲基氨基乙酯、甲基丙烯酸二甲基氨基丙酯、甲基丙烯酸叔丁基氨基乙酯、丙烯酸缩水甘油酯、甲基丙烯酸缩水甘油酯、丙烯酸苄酯、甲基丙烯酸苄酯、丙烯酸苯酯和甲基丙烯酸苯酯等等。
推荐的制备聚合物添加剂用单体有甲基丙烯酸异丁酯、甲基丙烯酸丁酯、甲基丙烯酸异冰片酯、甲基丙烯酸环己酯、甲基丙烯酸乙酯、甲基丙烯酸甲酯、甲基丙烯酸和丙烯酸。较好的是该聚合物添加剂含有(a)约90%~100%(重量)的甲基丙烯酸异丁酯和约0~10%(重量)的可自由基聚合的烯属酸或(b)约45%~90%甲基丙烯酸丁酯、约10%~55%(重量)的甲基丙烯酸异冰片酯和约0~2%(重量)可自由基聚合的烯属酸。最好是该聚合物添加剂含有约50~100%(重量)甲基丙烯酸异丁酯、约0~50%(重量)甲基丙烯酸甲酯和约0~10%(重量)可自由基聚合的烯属酸。用于本发明的最好烯属酸是甲基丙烯酸。在要求防紫外线稳定性的场合,聚合物添加剂所含乙烯基芳族单体宜低于25%(重量),不含则更佳。
可按乳液聚合、悬浮聚合、溶液聚合或本体聚合等任何已知聚合方法制备本发明的聚合物添加剂。较好的是使用1~20%(摩尔)的链转移剂按乳液聚合方法制备聚合物添加剂,使其分子量低。使用乳液聚合反应方法制备本发明的聚合物添加剂
的优点是投资效益好和与水基粘合剂组合物的溶混性好。适用于这种聚合反应的链转移剂的例子包括C1~C15的烷基硫醇、苄基硫醇、3-巯基丙酸及其酯类、巯基乙醇、苄醇、α-甲基苄醇和巯基乙酸乙酯等。
聚合物添加剂改进粘合剂组合物性能的能力取决于它的分子量、软化点(按ASTM试验法#E-2867测定)和添加剂与粘合剂聚合物之间的相容程度。相容性是对两种物质互溶性的评价,相容混合物的特征是(1)以组分间不含间隔区的单一均相共存;(2)组份混合物的玻璃化转变温度是单一的[见P.B.Rim和E.B.Orler在“Dependence of Tg on Composition for a Compatible Polgmer/Oligomer Blend”,Macromolecules,Vol.20,pp.433-435(1987)中的论述]。相容性缺乏一般表现为干燥薄膜混浊和粘性降低。在组成相似和分子量低的物质间一般易于混溶。为了有效地改善粘合剂的性能,本发明的聚合物添加剂应显示出与粘合剂聚合物的明显的相容程度,尽管这两个组份不必完全混溶。
所希望的是使粘合剂的剥离强度、抗剪强度、粘着性和薄膜透明性等性能的均衡达到最佳。所有这些性能对粘合剂组合物都很重要,在已使这些性能综合平衡达到最佳的场合常可获得最大利益。为使粘合剂性能达到必要的平衡,本发明的聚合物添加剂必须有小于约35000的数均分子量和大于约40℃的软化点。聚合物添加剂的数均分子量以低于约9000为宜,以约600至约6000更好,最好是约600至约4000。
可按混合或掺合等任何已知方法将本发明的聚合物添加剂加入粘合剂组合物中,使该添加剂均匀混入粘合剂组合物中。最好是以水乳液或水/有机溶剂混合介质中的乳化溶液的形式将添加剂加入粘合剂组合物中。按粘合剂组合物的干燥总重量计,聚合物添加剂的有效量范围一般为约1%至约55%(重量)。
在包括压敏胶粘剂在内的多种粘合剂组合物均可使用本发明的聚合物添加剂。这些粘合剂组合物可含有异戊二烯和丙烯腈-丁二烯-苯乙烯等橡胶以及由苯乙烯、丁二烯、乙烯、乙酸乙烯酯、丙烯酸或其酯和甲基丙烯酸或其酯制成的聚合物或共聚物。该粘合剂组合物最好含有(1)乙烯与乙酸乙烯酯的共聚物,或(2)以丙烯酸或甲基丙烯酸或其酯类制备的聚合物或共聚物。
列举下列实施例来进一步说明本发明,这些实施例是为了说明而无限制意义。以凝胶渗透色谱法使用Styragel Bead柱及四氢呋喃作溶剂,测定聚合物添加剂的分子量。使用分子量已知的聚甲基丙烯酸甲酯校正Styragel Bead柱。按环球法(ASTM#E-2867)测定其软化点。

实施例1-21乳液聚合反应
以乳液聚合方法制备本发明范围内的聚合物添加剂,组成和物理性能列于表1。按下列方法制备聚合物添加剂。
向3升四颈圆底烧瓶中加入610克水和按表1列出的用量(初始加料)加入过硫酸铵(APS)。单体乳液进料由280克水、100克硫酸化阴离子表面活性剂、1000克单体和表1所示的n-DDM组成,在三小时期间将这种单体均匀地加入烧瓶中,同时使聚合温度保持在84℃。与加入单体乳液进料的同时按表1所示用量(补加料)将45克水与APS一同加入。加入单体后,使这批料保持在84℃30分钟,然后冷却至70℃,再加入1克28%的氨水。再将这批料冷却至室温,过滤后获得聚合物产品。

按日本专利公开54-3136所述方法进行溶液聚合反应制备聚合物作为对比。以对异丙基苯甲烷作溶剂,于170℃下用1.5小时逐渐加料进行聚合反应。引发剂是用量为1%(重量)的过氧化二叔丁基(基于单体总量计)。聚合物的组成和物理性能列于表3。

实施例26溶液聚合:
根据下列方法以溶液聚合制备属于本发明范围的聚合物添加剂。
加热一只2升4颈烧瓶,并充以氮气。使用800克甲基丙烯酸甲酯和200克甲苯制成单体混合物。将由19.7克甲醇钾(30%的甲醇溶液)组成的催化剂与100克单体混合物加入烧瓶。加热烧瓶至65℃并开始逐渐加入20%单体混合物。加料结束后维持温度在65℃下30分钟左右。然后在1.5小时内逐渐将剩余的单体混合物加入,并维持在65℃下30分钟。最终聚合物添加剂的软化点为50℃,Mn为600
实施例27溶液聚合:
按实施例26的方法制备本发明范围内的聚合物添加剂,不同的是在单体混合物中使用400克甲基丙烯酸丁酯和400克甲基丙烯酸异冰片酯。是终聚合物添加剂的软化点为63℃,Mn为1290。
实施例28粘合试验:
将上述实施例中制备的聚合物添加剂加在丙烯酸丁酯类乳液粘合剂中进行粘合性能实验。以28%的氢氧化铵水溶液处理乳液聚合的聚合物添加剂使其pH为9。以去离子水和表面活性剂乳化溶液聚合的添加剂。然后以不同浓度将上述各乳液与丙烯酸类乳液粘合剂混合并加入氢氧化铵溶液将pH调整至9。然后将粘合剂-添加剂混合物涂布在用丙酮擦洗过的聚对苯二甲酸乙酯片上,于105℃干燥5分钟(或另外注明,涂布在未处理过的双向取向的聚丙烯上于70℃干燥15分钟)。干燥后的粘合剂膜厚为0.001英寸。然后将涂布后的胶片与一片未处理的聚丙烯盖片相层合。再将层合片截取为1英寸宽的样条,试验前将其置于温度25℃,相对湿度50%的条件下24小时以上。
肉眼观察该层合片试样并按下列等级评定其透明性:
E=薄膜质量优异,完全透明
VG=薄膜质量极好,污浊极小
G=薄膜质量良好,稍有污浊
F=薄膜质量中等,污浊尚可
P=薄膜质量差,污浊严重
剥离强度的测定是根据压敏胶带委员会第一号方法测定,停留时间1分钟。抗剪强度的测定是用压敏胶带委员会第7号方法进行,重叠面积1/2×1英寸,重量1000克。使用标签和商标生产厂(Tag and Labelm anufacturer)的研究用折圈粘着性(Institute Loop Tack)试验机测定粘着性。结果列于表4,它表明本发明的聚合物添加剂(即软化点>40℃)与软化点较低的实施例22和23的聚合物添加剂相比,具有改进的均衡剥离强度、抗剪强度和粘着性。

实施例29粘合试验:
将根据日本专利公开54-3136制备的实例24和25的聚合物以不同浓度与实施例28中使用的丙烯酸丁酯类胶乳液相混合,并试验其粘合性能,与本发明范围内的典型聚合物添加剂(实施例4)进行比较。结果列于表5。
结果表明本发明的聚合物添加剂(软化点为100℃)具有较好的综合均衡的粘合性能。实施例4具有显著改善的抗剪强度、良好的薄膜透明度和剥离强度,和折圈粘着性结果与实例24和25(软化点<25℃)相近。

实施例30粘合试验:
将实施例15和27制备的本发明范围内的聚合物添加剂以不同浓度与实例28中使用的丙烯酸乳液相混合并试验其粘合性能。结果列于表6,它表明如果添加剂的分子量足够低,则可使用较高浓度(即40%)的聚合物添加剂。较高用量的分子量极低的添加剂,可显著改进粘着性和剥离强度。

Claims (14)
1、一种粘合剂组合剂,含有i)由选自苯乙烯、丁二烯、丙烯腈、乙烯、乙酸乙烯酯、丙烯酸、丙烯酸酯、甲基丙烯酸和甲基丙烯酸酯的单体制备的粘合剂聚合物或共聚物和ii)约1%至55%(基于干重计)的聚合物添加剂,其中所述聚合物添加剂由选自C1-C20烷基和环烷基的丙烯酸酯、C2-C20烷基和环烷基的甲基丙烯酸酯、可自由基聚合的烯属酸和其它选自苯乙烯、α-甲基苯乙烯、乙烯基甲苯、丙烯腈、甲基丙烯腈、乙烯、乙酸乙烯酯、氯乙烯,偏氯乙烯、丙烯酰胺、甲基丙烯酰胺、丙烯酸2-氰乙酯、甲基丙烯酸2-氰乙酯、甲基丙烯酸二甲氨基乙酯、甲基丙烯酸二甲氨基丙酯、甲基丙烯酸叔丁氨基乙酯、丙烯酸缩水甘油酯、甲基丙烯酸缩水甘油酯、丙烯酸苄酯、甲基丙烯酸苄酯、丙烯酸苯酯和甲基丙烯酸苯酯的烯属不饱和单体聚合而成,所述聚合物添加剂的数均分子量低于35000,软化点大于40℃。
2、权利要求1的组合物,其中所述聚合物添加剂的数均分子量低于9000。
3、权利要求1的组合物,其中所述聚合物添加剂的数均分子量为600至6000。
4、权利要求1的组合物,其中所述聚合物添加剂的数均分子量为600至4000。
5、权利要求1的组合物,其中所述聚合物添加剂由选自甲基丙烯酸异丁酯、甲基丙烯酸丁酯、甲基丙烯酸异冰片酯、甲基丙烯酸环已酯、甲基丙烯酸乙酯、甲基丙烯酸甲酯、甲基丙烯酸和丙烯酸的单体聚合而成。
6、权利要求1的组合物,其中所述粘合剂组合物含有乙烯与乙酸乙烯酯的共聚物。
7、权利要求1的组合物,其中所述聚合物添加剂经乳液聚合制成。
8、权利要求1的组合物,其中所述聚合物添加剂的用量范围为1%至55%(重量),基于所述的粘合剂组合物的干燥总重量计。
9、权利要求1的组合物,其中所述聚合物添加剂含有90%至100%(重量)甲基丙烯酸异丁酯和0至10%(重量)可自由基聚合的烯属酸。
10、权利要求9的组合物,其中所述烯属酸是甲基丙烯酸。
11、权利要求1的组合物,其中所述聚合物添加剂含有45%至90%(重量)的甲基丙烯酸丁酯、10%至55%(重量)的甲基丙烯酸异冰片酯和0至2%重量的可自由基聚合的烯属酸。
12、权利要求11的组合物,所述烯属酸是甲基丙烯酸。
13、权利要求1的组合物,其中所述聚合物添加剂含有50%至100%(重量)的甲基丙烯酸异冰片酯、0%至5%(重量)的甲基丙烯酸甲酯和0至10%(重量)的可自由基聚合的烯属酸。
14、权利要求12的组合物,所述烯属酸是甲基丙烯酸。
