Abstract
本发明揭示了一种清除氧分子的方法和体系。这一体系应用一种两亲性树枝状聚合物作为热塑性配混物中氧分子的还原剂。通过加入一种环氧官能的苯乙烯-丙烯酸酯低聚物,使得配混物的透明度与配混物中热塑性基体本身的透明度几乎一致。目前由聚对苯二甲酸乙二酯制成的食物和饮料容器可以通过对上述配混物进行模塑制备,其具有与聚对苯二甲酸乙二酯本身基本相同的雾度,但是用氧清除剂避免氧化作用,保持食物和饮料的新鲜。
Description
优先权要求
本申请要求于2009年5月18日提交的美国临时专利申请序列第61/179,296号(代理人案卷号12009005)的优先权,其通过参考结合于此。
发明领域
本发明涉及使用枝状聚合物作为还原剂(也称为抗氧化剂)来清除由热塑性配混物制造的容器和包装中的氧。
发明背景
食物的变质已经困扰人类数千年。食物的容器已经从石头发展到陶器,再到金属,再到玻璃,再到塑料,特别是用于一次性消费的食物和饮料。
食物和饮料的保质期限受到氧分子氧化作用的影响,所述氧分子来自容器中未被食物或者饮料占据的空间(“顶空氧”),来自容器壁或密封件本体(“固有氧”),以及通过容器壁渗透入(“渗透氧”)。此外食物或者饮料本身含有的氧在顶空中保持平衡。
有已知的能清除氧分子的化合物,但是由于每种来源的氧影响食物或饮料的时间不同,所以不能充分地去除每种来源的氧分子。
还有一些人试图使用树枝状聚合物来清除氧,例如在PCT专利公开WO/2009/029479(Joslin等)中所述。
发明概述
本领域需要一种清除热塑性配混物中氧分子的体系,优选是当所述配混物制成塑料制品之后,特别是那些对氧有渗透性的配混物。本领域尤其需要一种清除氧的体系,其不会使得因透明性而被选择的热塑性配混物产生难以接受的雾度。
本发明的一方面是一种从热塑性制品中清除氧的方法,其包含:(a)将一种氧分子的还原剂和一种环氧官能的苯乙烯-丙烯酸酯低聚物混合加入到热塑性聚合物基体中,形成一种热塑性配混物;(b)从热塑性配混物形成一种制品,其中还原剂是具有易与氧分子反应的碳-碳双键的两亲性树枝状聚合物,其中热塑性配混物与热塑性基体有基本相同的雾度百分数。
本发明中,“基本相同的雾度百分数”指的是热塑性配混物与热塑性基体之间的雾度差值不超过12。较佳地,所述差值不超过8。所述差值优选不超过4。所述差值最优选不超过2。因为雾度是一个用百分数表示的值,所以所述差值是一个无纲量的数值。
本发明的另一方面是一种热塑性配混物,包含:(a)一种热塑性聚合物基体;(b)作为氧分子的还原剂的两亲性树枝状聚合物;以及(c)环氧官能的苯乙烯-丙烯酸酯低聚物。
本发明的再一方面是一种包含上述热塑性配混物的热塑性制品,例如瓶子预成形件、吹塑瓶,或者容纳易被氧化、易腐坏的食物或者饮料的瓶子。
发明实施方式
塑料制品的热塑性基体
任何热塑性塑料都可以作为候选材料用来形成塑料制品。尽管本发明主要用于易腐坏的食物和饮料行业,但本发明中由热塑性配混物制造的塑料制品也能用于由于氧的腐蚀作用而需要使氧的存在量最小化的任何工业或消费品行业。例如,电子行业可能需要限制氧在封闭空间中的存在,以最大程度地减少封闭空间中电子部件上贵金属的氧化。
然而,塑料制品主要旨在用于易腐坏食物或饮料的包装。热塑性基体经过模塑、挤出、压延等形成的最终塑料包装制品以及最终制品可能容纳或保护的内容物决定了使用本发明中热塑性塑料的适用性。
在食品和饮料行业中使用的热塑性塑料的非限制性例子有聚酯(包括聚丙交酯和聚羟基链烷酸酯)、聚酰胺、聚烯烃、聚碳酸酯、聚苯乙烯、聚丙烯酸酯、所有类型的热塑性弹性体(包括热塑性硫化橡胶)等。
因为要保护食物和饮料消费品的保质期限免于遭受装有这些食物和饮料的容器中的氧分子或渗过容器的氧分子氧化的影响,所以对于本发明中使用的热塑性塑料的选择是依据包装成本、外观和其它包装上的考虑。
在候选聚合物中,聚酯和聚乙烯优选作为包装材料。其中,聚酯,特别是聚对苯二甲酸乙二醇酯(PET)用于含碳和不含碳饮料消费品的塑料容器。此外,热塑性弹性体优选作为诸如饮料塑料容器的包装材料的封闭件或封闭衬垫或垫圈或封条。
氧分子的还原剂
一旦选好了作为包装的热塑性基体,就能选择氧分子的还原剂。本发明中的还原剂是一种树枝状聚合物,其商业应用和广告内容都是作为水性建筑涂料,并由Perstorp AB公司以Boltorn W3000牌两亲性空气干燥树枝状聚合物销售。在聚合物工业中,“树枝状聚合物”也称为“枝状聚合物”。
Boltorn W3000是一种黄色蜡状物,其目前能有效地作为分散树脂来分散水性介质中的非两亲性常规树脂和颜料,并形成不含挥发性有机化学物和不含表面活性剂的水性涂料。据广告介绍,该黄色蜡状物与许多醇酸树脂、聚酯和颜料有很好的相容性,因此能得到具有高光泽度和耐久性的涂料。
通过凝胶渗透色谱法(GPC)测定的两亲性树枝状聚合物的重均分子量约为9,000g/mol,在23℃和30s-1下测定的粘度约为15,000mPas,以甘油三酯计的完全脂肪族油度(fully aliphatic oil length)为45%。它的酸值最大为10mg KOH/g。它的含水量约为4-6%。
Boltorn W3000枝状聚合物的产品文献描述了枝状聚合物的形态,其有一条直径约为1nm的树枝状主链,从中伸展出疏水性链和亲水性链,产生了聚合物的两亲性质。亲水性链的长度在约0.1nm至约1nm的范围,而疏水性链的长度在约2nm至约5nm的范围。
疏水性链是不饱和脂肪酸长链且含有碳-碳双键,其被发现易被氧分子氧化。
更具体的,根据它的制造商所报告,BoltornW3000树枝状聚合物是一种非离子型、自乳化的两亲性树枝状聚合物,具有一个树枝状球形结构,其链的末端通过疏水性链(可发生空气干燥氧化过程的长链不饱和脂肪酸)与亲水性链(甲基聚乙二醇链)的组合终止。这一树枝状聚合物的两亲性质赋予了一些分散和稳定化特性。这一特性被用于将常规的醇酸树脂(开始时制备用于溶剂型体系)分散到水中。制得了芯/壳颗粒型的乳液,其中芯是控制涂料性能的醇酸树脂,而壳是两亲性树枝状聚合物。用作稳定剂/乳化剂的BOLTORNW3000无需表面活性剂或者几乎是表面活性剂(almost surfactant)。
这一枝状聚合物的有用性在于其疏水链上的不饱和位。
根据其制造商的进一步报告,这一两亲性树枝状聚合物从一种季戊四醇衍生物制得,所述衍生物仍含有4个可与二甲基丙酸(dimethylproprionic acid)(DMPA)构成层的醇,形成高支化的聚酯形态(例如,它的枝状聚合物结构),然后将其官能化,之后被甲基聚乙二醇(MPEG)和一些疏水向日葵脂肪酸封端。
枝状聚合物是大分子,特别是由于它的两亲特性,不容易发生迁移或者“起霜(blooming)”。
枝状聚合物作为氧分子的还原剂是特别有利的,这是由于其枝状结构使得每单位体积的枝状聚合物中有很多不饱和的碳-碳键能用于氧化作用。这些不饱和的碳-碳键易受到与之接触的游离氧分子的氧化,无论是在塑料包装制品壁的主体中还是那些壁的表面。在实际中,这一易氧化性形成了大分子枝状聚合物的还原能力,每一个氧分子与碳-碳双键的反应对于使用该枝状聚合物制造的食物或者饮料容器或者包装中的活动氧分子来说就是一种清除过程。
低聚物
该配混物也得益于加入环氧官能的苯乙烯-丙烯酸酯低聚物,以便使热塑性基体与枝状聚合物之间获得相容性,从而降低由这三组分配混物模塑得到的塑料制品的雾度。
一种此类低聚物是BASF公司市售的JoncrylTM牌增链剂。
关于环氧官能的低分子量苯乙烯-丙烯酸酯共聚物的其他信息见美国专利第6,605,681号(Villalobos等)和美国专利第6,984,694号(Blasius等),它们通过引用纳入本文。
换言之,低聚的增链剂是下述单体(i)和(ii)的聚合产物:(i)至少一种环氧官能的(甲基)丙烯酸类单体和(ii)至少一种苯乙烯和/或(甲基)丙烯酸类单体,此聚合产物的环氧当量在约180至约2800之间,数均环氧官能度(Efn)值约小于30,重均环氧官能度(Efw)值最多约140,数均分子量(Mn)小于6000。优选的,低聚的增链剂的多分散性指数约为1.5-5。
得自BASF公司并且有用的各种JoncrylTM等级是ADR-4300、ADR-4370-S、ADR-4368-F和ADR-4368-C,这些都是固体。或者,可以使用液体等级的,即ADR-4380、ADR-4385和ADR-4318。
特别优选的是JoncrylTM ADR-4368-C级别。这一级别的数均分子量小于3000,每条聚合链上有大约4个环氧官能度。
式I示出了环氧官能的苯乙烯-丙烯酸酯聚合物,其中R1-R5可以是H、CH3、有2-10个碳原子的高级烷基基团,或者它们的组合;R6可以是烷基基团;其中x,y和z每个都在1-20之间。
还原剂的任选氧化催化剂
催化剂有助于活化枝状聚合物上的疏水链。尽管是优选的,但是催化剂不是必需的。本发明中的枝状聚合物可以在没有催化剂的情况下就进行氧的清除过程。例如,在包装中装入食物或者饮料的同时或基本同时形成的包装受益于这种氧清除剂,所述氧清除剂不需要活化即可开始还原氧分子。
然而对于特定行业,使用作氧分子还原剂的枝状聚合物保持休眠状态直到形成包装或者容器是十分重要的。饮料瓶和其它液体容器通常经过两步制造,第一步是形成所谓的“预成形件”,其开口有最终的尺寸,但是最终体积塌缩了;第二步是将预成形件模塑成一个有最终尺寸的容器、器皿或者瓶。例如,水瓶、软饮料瓶和啤酒瓶是从预成形件开始的,所述预成形件具有合适尺寸的螺帽口和高度塌缩的类似截短试管的剩余部分。在制瓶厂,在灌入饮料前,通过吹塑使预成形件膨胀,形成一升或半升的瓶子。
因为不希望在吹塑和灌装之前的储存阶段时浪费暴露在环境中的预成形件的氧清除性能,所以枝状聚合物的氧清除功能的休眠状态对于饮料行业就十分重要。因此,尤其是对于此行业以及任何其它依赖于预成形件的行业,例如健康护理或化妆品行业,需要在预成形件形成之后,通过某一事物来触发氧清除的开始。
热活化的催化剂的非限制性例子包括钴盐、铈盐、锰盐和其它过渡金属催化剂等。在预成形件形成吹塑瓶时,这些类型的催化剂适用于活化作为大分子氧还原剂的枝状聚合物,形成吹塑瓶的过程是在升高的温度下发生的,以便将预成形件加热熔化至最终形状。
一种用作可氧化有机化合物的氧化催化剂的商购催化剂的非限制性例子是硬脂酸钴(CAS#13586-84-0)。氧分子O2是最易氧化的有机化合物。
其它任选的添加剂
作为食物或饮料包装的塑料制品可以包含传统的塑料添加剂,其用量足以使包含热塑性基体、氧分子还原剂和任选还原剂催化剂的热塑性配混物具有所需的加工性质或性能。添加剂的量不应造成浪费或对配混物的加工或性能有害。热塑性配混领域的技术人员无需过多的实验,仅需参考一些论文,例如来自“塑料设计库”(Plastics Design Library)(www.williamandrew.com)的“塑 料添加剂数据库”(Plastics Additives Database)(2004),就能够选择许多不同类型的添加剂引入本发明的配混物中。
任选添加剂的非限制性例子包括粘合促进剂;杀生物剂(抗菌剂、杀真菌剂和防霉剂)、抗雾化剂;抗静电剂;粘合剂、起泡剂和发泡剂;分散剂;填料和增量剂;防火剂、阻燃剂和烟雾抑制剂;抗冲改性剂;引发剂;润滑剂;云母;颜料、着色剂和染料;增塑剂;加工助剂;脱模剂;硅烷、钛酸盐/酯和锆酸盐/酯;滑爽剂和抗粘连剂;稳定剂;硬脂酸盐/酯;紫外光吸收剂;粘度调节剂;蜡;以及它们的组合。
表1显示了本发明的配混物中各种可接受、所需和优选的组分的相对重量百分数。
配混物的加工
本发明中配混物的制备并不复杂。本发明的配混物可以间歇或连续操作的方式制得。
以连续工艺进行的混合操作通常在挤出机中进行,该挤出机的温度提高到足以使聚合物基体熔化,可以在挤出机顶部或挤出机下游加入固体组分添加剂。挤出机速度可以为约50-500转/分钟(rpm),优选约为100-300rpm。通常,将挤出机的输出产物制成粒状,供以后挤出或模塑成塑料包装制品,如用于饮料塑料瓶的预成形件。
以间歇工艺进行的混合操作通常在班伯里(Banbury)混合器中进行,该混合器的温度也提高到足以使聚合物基体熔化,以便加入固体组分添加剂。混合速度为60-1000rpm,混合温度可以为环境温度。此外,将混合器的输出产物切碎到更小的尺寸,供以后挤出或模塑成同一类型的塑料包装制品之用。
枝状聚合物可以与热塑性基体单独混合,但是优选使用第二催化剂,其益处是有助于与氧的还原反应。
事实上,当使用一种催化剂时,优选在与枝状聚合物配混之前将催化剂预混合到热塑性基体中。
随后的挤出或模塑技术是热塑性聚合物工程领域技术人员众所周知的。不需要过多的实验,仅仅需要参考诸如“挤出、确定的加工指导和手册”(Extrusion,The Definitive Processing Guide and Handbook);“模塑部件收缩和翘曲手册”(Handbook of Molded Part Shrinkage and Warpage);“专门的模塑技术”(Specialized Molding Techniques);“旋转模塑技术”(RotationalMolding Technology)和“模具、工具和模头修补焊接手册”(Handbook of Mold,Tool and Die Repair Welding)(均由塑料设计库发表(www.williamandrew.com))之类的文献,本领域的技术人员就能使用本发明的配混物制得具有任何设想的形状和外观的制品。
使用注塑技术制备上面提到的预成形件。接着使用吹塑技术制备完全成形的塑料饮料瓶,之后灌装含碳或者不含碳饮料。
本发明的实用性
如前文所解释的,设计用于容纳易被氧化的物品的任何热塑性制品都能受益于成为最终制品一部分并作为氧清除剂的大分子、非迁移性的枝状聚合物。
已知氧能与调味剂、染料、氨基酸、维生素、脂肪酸、抗氧化剂(这里用于其它目的)和其它敏感的有机化学品反应。氧能转化酶和促进任何需氧过程的进行,包括酵母菌、霉菌或者细菌的繁殖。
任何食物或饮料,药物或化妆品,或者任何其它对氧分子具有高度反应活性的材料都能从本发明中获益。由于大分子还原剂的存在,优选是在一个适当的时间被催化剂活化的大分子还原剂的存在,食物和其它易腐烂材料的保质期限能得到延长。
实施例
实施例1和对比例A-C——含有枝状聚合物的配混物的制备
表2显示了在Prism 16mm 40L/D平行双螺杆挤出机的反应性挤出条件下的组分和配方。
所有的对比例和实施例1都在手动预混合组分之后,在温度为250℃并且转速为250的条件下,在Prism 16mm 40L/D平行双螺杆挤出机中熔混。即使是对比例C也经历了同样的挤出过程,以便建立完整的对比结果。所得的挤出物为粒料。
使用Carver 3392型液压机在TeflonTM涂覆的铝箔间压塑各样品的粒料,来制备实施例1和对比例A-C的膜。对于每一块膜,首先将3.0克样品在265℃时加热15秒,接着在265℃和小于1吨压力下模塑30秒,然后在冰水浴中冷却。所得膜用购自BYK-Gardner公司的Haze-Gard Plus来评价透明度,用DSC法来评价氧清除活性。表3显示了结果。
实施例1(同时有枝状聚合物和低聚物存在)与对比例C(两者都没有)之间的雾度差非常小,即0.3,这对于人眼来说几乎是察觉不到的,而且接近测试仪器的极限。
对比例A和实施例1之间的雾度对比更有启迪作用。如此少量的低聚物(0.5%)就能够降低32.7%的雾度是完全没预计到的。
尽管不受任何具体理论的束缚,但认为加入的低聚物赋予了热塑性基体以化学活性,且赋予了枝状聚合物以某种类型的物理相互作用。如此,少量的低聚物被认为在热塑性基体和枝状聚合物之间提供了某种相容性,这显著地降低了雾度百分数,达到与热塑性基体本身雾度基本相同的水平。
对于所说的透明度,接着使用差示扫描量热法(DSC)来检测一个对比例和实施例,以评价枝状聚合物作为氧清除剂的特性。根据ASTM D385-06,测试方法包括将样品加热到一升高的温度,一旦平衡建立,将周围气氛从氮气变为氧气。对于实施例1和实施例3,选择160℃。从首先暴露在氧气中到开始氧化的时间被认为是氧化诱导时间(OIT)。OIT的具体测量过程如下:
1)校准测量热流的量热计仪器,校准气流(O2和N2)流速至50cc/min,校准温度计;
2)称量7-10mg小块样品(如果需要,进行切割);
3)用流速为50cc/min的N2对样品室中的样品吹扫15分钟;
4)以20℃/min的加热速率将样品在N2中加热到设定的温度,记录热流;
5)将N2温度在设定温度保持10分钟,持续记录热流;
6)以50cm3/min的流速将N2转换为O2;
7)在O2中将样品保持在设定的温度不变,持续记录热流100分钟;
8)记录初始氧化时间、峰值氧化时间和峰值面积(氧化效率/能力)的数据。
表4显示了对比例A和实施例1的OIT结果。
OIT的结果证明了低聚物的加入没有破坏热塑性基体中枝状聚合物的氧清除能力。OIT结果还显示了对比例A和实施例1都是优良的氧清除化合物,因为氧清除的起动是迅速的。
本发明不限于上述实施方式。以下是所附权利要求书。
Claims (16)
1.一种清除热塑性制品中氧的方法,包括:
(a)将一种氧分子的还原剂和一种环氧官能的苯乙烯-丙烯酸酯低聚物混合加入到热塑性聚合物基体中,形成一种热塑性配混物,以及
(b)从热塑性配混物形成一种制品,
其中还原剂是具有易与氧分子反应的碳-碳双键的两亲性树枝状聚合物,其中热塑性配混物与热塑性基体具有基本相同的雾度百分数。
2.如权利要求1所述的方法,其特征在于,步骤(a)还包括将一种催化剂混合到热塑性配混物中。
3.如权利要求1或2所述的方法,其特征在于,所述树枝状聚合物具有一种枝状球形结构,其链的末端通过疏水性链与亲水性链的组合终止。
4.如权利要求3所述的方法,其特征在于,所述疏水性链是不饱和脂肪酸长链。
5.如权利要求3所述的方法,其特征在于,所述环氧官能的苯乙烯-丙烯酸酯低聚物的多分散指数约为1.5-5。
6.如上述权利要求中任一项所述的方法,其特征在于,还包含一种功能添加剂,其选自:粘合促进剂;杀生物剂(抗菌剂、杀真菌剂和防霉剂)、抗雾化剂;抗静电剂;粘合剂、起泡剂和发泡剂;分散剂;填料和增量剂;防火剂、阻燃剂和烟雾抑制剂;抗冲改性剂;引发剂;润滑剂;云母;颜料、着色剂和染料;增塑剂;加工助剂;脱模剂;硅烷、钛酸盐/酯和锆酸盐/酯;滑爽剂和抗粘连剂;稳定剂;硬脂酸盐/酯;紫外光吸收剂;粘度调节剂;蜡;以及它们的组合。
7.如上述权利要求中任一项所述的方法,其特征在于,所述树枝状聚合物通过碳-碳双键与氧分子反应来还原氧分子,从而清除了制品中的氧分子。
8.一种热塑性配混物,包含:(a)一种热塑性聚合物基体;(b)一种具有易与氧分子反应的碳-碳双键的两亲性树枝状聚合物;(c)环氧官能的苯乙烯-丙烯酸酯低聚物。
9.如权利要求8所述的配混物,其特征在于,所述配混物还包含树枝状聚合物的催化剂,作为氧分子的还原剂。
10.如权利要求8或9所述的配混物,其特征在于,所述环氧官能的苯乙烯-丙烯酸酯低聚物是下述单体(i)和(ii)的聚合产物:(i)至少一种环氧官能的(甲基)丙烯酸单体和(ii)至少一种苯乙烯和/或(甲基)丙烯酸单体,此聚合产物的环氧当量在约180至约2800之间,数均环氧官能度(Efn)值约小于30,重均环氧官能度(Efw)值最多约140,数均分子量(Mn)小于6000。
11.如权利要求10所述的配混物,其特征在于,还包含一种功能添加剂,其选自:粘合促进剂;杀生物剂(抗菌剂、杀真菌剂和防霉剂)、抗雾化剂;抗静电剂;粘合剂、起泡剂和发泡剂;分散剂;填料和增量剂;防火剂、阻燃剂和烟雾抑制剂;抗冲改性剂;引发剂;润滑剂;云母;颜料、着色剂和染料;增塑剂;加工助剂;脱模剂;硅烷、钛酸盐/酯和锆酸盐/酯;滑爽剂和抗粘连剂;稳定剂;硬脂酸盐/酯;紫外光吸收剂;粘度调节剂;蜡;以及它们的组合。
12.如权利要求8-11中任一项所述的配混物,其特征在于,所述树枝状聚合物占配混物重量的约0.1%-3%,所述环氧官能的苯乙烯-丙烯酸酯低聚物占配混物重量的约0.1%-3%。
13.一种热塑性制品,其包含权利要求8-12中任一项所述的配混物。
14.如权利要求13所述制品,其特征在于,所述制品是一种瓶子预成形件。
15.如权利要求13所述制品,其特征在于,所述制品是一种吹塑瓶。
16.如权利要求13所述制品,其特征在于,瓶子装有一种易氧化、易腐坏的食物或者饮料。
