Abstract
A hygiene article for absorbing body fluids has an absorptive pad (24), a pervious inner layer (18) and an outer impervious layer. The pad consists of a thin longitudinally folded absorptive material (24). Each fold of this layer is heat-sealed or attached by adhesive to the outer covering. The folds are also heat-sealed or glued to the inner layer, and the channels (26) thus formed are closed at their ends. The height of all the folds may be equal, or their height may decrease from the centre towards the edges. The outer layer is enclosed by a shaped by flexible cover (21), made pref. from a lightweight plastic foam. The folded material may if required be attached directly to this outer cover. The folded material may consist of an amorphous fibrous material a fibrous fabric, or a fibrous cord, preferably with an integrated super-absorber. In particular, it may be made of cellulose and/or cotton, preferably mixed with heat-sealable thermoplastic fibres. It may be attached by an adhesive or by heat sealing to a thin support foil on the side facing the outer cover. It may also consist of a granular material of high absorptivity similarly attached to a support foil. The thermoplastic material, e.g. a polyolefin, is heated and suddenly cooled in order to increase its crystallisation, and the stability and absorptivity of the pad. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used in the design of hygiene articles for absorbing continuously or suddenly appearing body fluids, e.g. urine. The absorbed liq. does not leak from the pad either at the time of absorption or at later time. The outer dimensions of the article are small, and it is light, pleasant and inconspicuous to wear.
Description
- Fig. 1 eine Draufsicht auf eine Windel,
- Fig. 2 einen Schnitt entlang der Linie II-II von Fig. 1,
The invention relates to a liquid-absorbent, flat-shaped hygiene article of essentially rectangular shape, having any indentations on the long side, with a suction pad for continuously and / or suddenly escaping body fluids, which absorbent pad has a liquid-permeable layer that is close to the body when in use and a layer that covers the other surface , is not encased in liquids or only in a vapor permeable outer layer.
In order to be able to make the suction pads as thin and supple as possible, chemical absorbents with high suction activity are integrated according to the known state of the art. Of particular importance in this regard are so-called superabsorbers, commercially available, highly absorbent polymers which can bind a multiple of their weight in urine or saline water and thereby form a gel which remains stable even under pressure.
The retention of a suction pad, i.e. the prevention of the expulsion of moisture when subjected to pressure can be further increased by the formation of a thermal bond. The fiber fluff made of cellulose, also called cellulose, is mixed with a fiber fluff made of a thermoplastic that is sealable. The temperature of the thermoplastic, for example a polyolefin, is raised to the melting point by means of a hot air stream or infrared radiation and then rapidly cooled. The polymeric crystallization increases the dimensional stability and thus the retention of the absorbent pad.
Large-scale hygiene articles of the higher quality level should not only absorb slowly and continuously escaping body fluids, but also suddenly leaking amounts of fluid up to e.g. 100 ml. An attempt has been made to solve this by forming a liquid-absorbing shell with several layers of absorbent material arranged flat on top of one another. However, this solution has the disadvantage, on the one hand, that the hygiene article lies on the wearer in a disturbing manner, and on the other hand, the container can at least partially empty into the underwear when an unfavorable, for example, lateral body position is taken.
WO 88/00 010 describes a urine flow protection device which can absorb body fluid that suddenly escapes without the protection device being too stiff for comfortable carrying. The liquid-absorbing protective device comprises prestressed elastic bands or threads which are attached to the inner surface of the liquid-permeable layer. The action of the elastic elements creates at least one bulging part in the absorbent article. This ensures the rapid absorption of body fluid.
According to EP-A1 0 301 491, a diaper is provided with side flaps protecting the underwear. Sealing means are arranged between the suction pad and the side tabs, which are intended to prevent the passage of body fluid.
Even the means known from these two laid-open documents are, however, unsatisfactory either in terms of comfort or effectiveness.
The inventor has therefore set himself the task of creating a liquid-absorbent, flat-shaped hygiene article of the type mentioned at the outset, which absorbs body fluids in any amount that can escape, which cannot flow out in any natural body position of the wearer, either immediately after delivery or later . Furthermore, the hygiene article should have small external dimensions, be light in weight and be comfortable and inconspicuous to wear.
The object is achieved according to the invention in that the absorbent pad consists of a thin layer with liquid-absorbing components that is continuously folded in the longitudinal direction of the hygiene article.
The material, the thickness of the layer and the length of the legs of the folds depend on the physical constitution of the user and the intended use. All known materials and manufacturing processes can be used for the folded layer.
A major advantage of the invention is that the longitudinal channels formed by folding can suddenly absorb body fluid that escapes without immediate absorption. The inner channels are filled first and then the outer ones. Even if the body fluid is emptied while sleeping and lying on its side, the longitudinal channels formed by the folds are continuously filled without liquid leaking into the underwear.
The suddenly emptied body fluid is gradually at least partially absorbed by the folded, moisture-absorbing layer, thus preventing it from flowing out with even greater certainty.
A suction pad consisting of a folded, thin layer is not only light, but also extremely supple, it adapts easily and practically without resistance to any thickness of the body shape.
Of course, the hygiene article according to the invention fulfills its function even in the case of slow leakage of body fluid in a small amount. In this case, the channels are not filled, the folded layer is able to continuously absorb the body fluid without any problems.
Preferably, all folds lying on the outer layer are sealed or glued to it. This is particularly advantageous because moisture absorbed in the channels cannot pass through a single thin folded layer and can then reach the outer area of the hygiene article practically without resistance along the outer layer.
The folds running in the longitudinal direction of the hygiene article are produced by first appropriately cutting or punching them out of a web, folding them continuously or stepwise with a folding machine of a known type and then gluing or sealing them on. The ducts, which are open on both ends, can be closed in the area of both narrow sides of the hygiene article by gluing or sealing.
The folds preferably have the same height or leg length, particularly in the central region. However, they can also have a leg length that decreases continuously from the inside to the outside.
For certain uses, it can be advantageous to place the outer layer of the hygiene article in a shaping but smooth bowl. This container-forming shell provides additional security, in particular for adults who suffer from sudden urine flow. According to a variant, this shell can also replace the outer layer, in which case the folded layer is glued or sealed directly onto the shell.
Because of the comfort, the shell preferably consists of a soft plastic foam, in particular of polyurethane or polyethylene foam.
According to a first embodiment of the invention, the folded, thin layer consists of a nonwoven fabric, fiber fabric or knitted fabric, known configuration, preferably with an integrated superabsorber for gel formation when absorbing liquid. As a result of the gel formation, not only is liquid bound, but at the same time the channels are better sealed at the top, making it difficult or impossible for residual liquid to escape before complete absorption.
The cellulose and / or cotton fibers used in industrial practice for the nonwoven, woven fabric or knitted fabric are preferably mixed with sealable fibers made of a thermoplastic. To improve retention, these plastic fibers can be thermally bonded, as with conventional suction pads.
The fleece, fabric or knitted fabric of the folded layer can be glued or sealed onto a carrier film in the direction of the outer layer.
According to a second embodiment, the folded, thin layer consists of a carrier film which is coated with an adhesive or sealable granulate with high absorbency. The carrier film is arranged in the direction of the outer layer. According to this second variant, the folded, thin layer contains no fibers.
If the flat hygiene article is a shell, it can be equipped with fastening tapes which can be fastened to the body and / or to the underwear. Such tapes are designed to cantilever and / or are glued to the outside of the shell in the longitudinal center. These tapes expediently have protective strips to be torn off before use.
The invention is explained in more detail with reference to exemplary embodiments shown in the drawing, which are also the subject of dependent claims. They show schematically:
1 is a plan view of a diaper,
2 shows a section along the line II-II of FIG. 1,
3 shows an enlarged partial section through a single fold,
4 shows a top view of a hygiene article designed as a forming shell,
5 shows a section along the line V-V in FIGS. 4 and
6 shows a folded, thin layer with folds of the same height.
The flat hygiene article 10 shown in FIG. 1 as a diaper has essentially a rectangular shape. On the long side, an indentation 12 is recessed in the middle area. A folded thin layer 14 has folds 16 running essentially in the longitudinal direction L. Corresponding to the indentations 12, the folded, thin layer 14 is gathered together more in the middle area of the diaper. In the present case, it consists of a nonwoven fabric.
For the sake of clarity, the layer 18 (FIG. 2) which faces the body during use is lifted off. The folded, thin layer 14 is glued to the moisture-impermeable outer layer 20 over the lowermost part of the folds 16.
In the corner area of the diaper, fastening strips 22 protrude on the longitudinal side, which are used to fix the diaper to the body of the wearer and / or to the underwear.
FIG. 2 shows the absorbent pad 24 encased by the layer 18 close to the body and the outer layer 20. This consists exclusively of the folded, thin layer 14, in the present example with liquid-absorbing components. The layer 18 close to the body is permeable to liquids. Thanks to the exceptional absorbency of the folded, thin layer 14, the layer 18 close to the body always feels dry. If the hygiene article 10 acts as a drip catcher, the liquid supplied in small portions is continuously absorbed. If a large amount of body fluid suddenly escapes, the inner longitudinal channels 26 fill, then the outer, in the direction of the arrows 27 running vertically to the longitudinal direction L (FIG. 1).
The outer layer 20 is impermeable to moisture or only allows moisture to pass through in the form of steam. In the present case, the outer layer 20 is designed as a vapor-impermeable plastic film and is glued to the body-near layer 18, which is designed as a hydrophobic fiber layer.
The lower fold 16 shown in FIG. 3 is sealed with the outer layer 20 made of a thermoplastic. The sealing connection is created by heating the outer layer 20 and the carrier film 28, which likewise consists of a thermoplastic, the sealing seam or the sealing seams 29 being formed. Applied to the carrier film 28 is an absorbent coating 30, which consists of fibers and / or a granulate, both of which can be glued or sealed. The carrier film 28, which is arranged in the direction of the outer layer 20, and the absorbent coating 30 together form the folded, thin layer 14 or its folds 16.
In the embodiment according to FIGS. 4 and 5, the outer layer 20 (in FIG. 2) is designed as a shaping, but supple shell 21, which serves as a safety container. The shell 21 has a circumferential, flange-like edge 32, on which the body-close layer 18 (FIG. 5) rests and is fastened by gluing or sealing.
Halved along the line V-V, the hygiene article according to FIG. 4 is suitable for male wearers as a drip catcher, the penis being inserted between the absorbent pad 24 and the layer 18 close to the body. Half a shell 21 is, however, not suitable for large quantities of suddenly escaping body fluid.
5 that a fastening strip 23 extends in the longitudinal direction L of the shell 21. After removing a protective strip, the shell 21 can be attached to the underwear.
6 indicates that the folds 16 of the folded, thin layer can have the same height h. 2 and 5, on the other hand, this height h decreases continuously towards the outside.
