Abstract
Desiccated fibres are opened to absorb liquid when they are composted by transferring liq. from a sump to a mixing pit and then to a separator, opening the fibres in chopping, grinding, and recycling pumps, and separating the fibres from liquid in press rollers after the liquid has penetrated to their cores to decrease their carbon to nitrogen ratio and accelerate fermentation. The liq. is pref. manure. ADVANTAGE - The liq. is solidified and ferments well.
Description
DESCRIPTION
DESCRIPTION
The subject of the present invention is a process for solidifying liquid by absorption, in this case liquid manure, in order to obtain a compostable material. The principle of absorption of a liquid by desiccated fibrous substances is widely known (cotton and wood waste).
Many experiments with mixing manure and sawdust to make compost have almost always failed, as the carbon to nitrogen ratio is still too high. The process described below demonstrates how, by opening the fiber of the materials to absorb the liquid, the retention capacity is increased and, therefore, accelerates the fermentation phenomenon due to the lowering of the carbon to nitrogen ratio.
The invention of this process therefore allows a better solidification of the liquid which is the aim sought in the elimination of excess slurries.
The accompanying drawing shows schematically, by way of example, an embodiment of the process. The liquid manure is previously brewed, ground and recycled in the existing pit 1, this in order to obtain a homogeneous liquid. By pumping 2, the liquid is transferred to a mixing tank 3 where, after adding fibrous dry matter 4 (sawdust, bark and wood shavings, straws, prunings, etc.), the liquid and the dry matter undergo a treatment comprising : stirring, shredding of fibers, complete homogenization of the mixture.
Once the desired consistency has been established, the mixture is pumped into a drum separator 5, where the solids 6 are separated from the filtrate 7 which, in turn, returns to the existing pit to start a cycle again.
