Abstract

The cover (9) normally retaining the watch glass (3) in its case (1) can be removed by turning a coin or tool in a peripheral slot (10), and replaced by the compass holder (11) in which a magnetised needle is pivot-mounted between lower and upper glass discs (12,12a). The assembly is rotatable in a bearing (17) within an enlarged version (16) of the cover. Alternatively the unit may be hinged (13,14) to the back (2) of the watch at an angle of 45 deg. and read by reflection in a mirror (15) set into the back, or in the polished surface of the back itself. ADVANTAGE - Compass holder can be laid directly on map for easy orientation, or secured to watch without detriment to its bulk and aesthetic appearance.
