Abstract
Motor vehicle exhaust purifier has cylindrical openable container with rolled up length of absorbent coated thin metal sheet
Description
Fig. 1 einen teilweisen Querschnitt durch den halbaufgerollten Filtereinsatz;
The invention relates to a gas detoxification apparatus, in particular for motor vehicles, with a container enclosing a filter with a connection pipe and cover.
The problem arose of the exhaust gases from internal combustion engines, in particular from motor vehicle engines, the harmful substances such as carbon monoxide, sulfur, lead, etc.
to be withdrawn with the help of a simple, easy-to-install and operate device of compact, inconspicuous design.
The gas detoxification apparatus according to the invention represents a cost-effective solution to this problem. This is characterized in that the filter has a spiral-shaped rolled thin sheet that is coated on both sides with adsorbents, and that the container has a circular cross-section, has means for detachable fastening and the lid with Quick release fasteners and is provided with an exhaust pipe.
An exemplary embodiment of the subject matter of the invention is shown in the drawing. Show it:
Fig. 1 is a partial cross-section through the half-rolled filter insert;
2 shows a plan view of the filter container with connection pipe and cover with exhaust pipe on a reduced scale.
The exhaust gas detoxification apparatus shown is intended in particular for motor vehicles. It has a sheet metal container 1 with a circular cross-section. This can be round or oval. A hanging tab 2 is welded on for attachment to the body.
On the gas inlet side, the container 1 is provided with a connection pipe 3 to which a pipe clamp 4 is attached (FIG. 2). This serves for the connection with the pipe socket 5 of the silencer 6.
On the gas outlet side, the container 1 has a lid 7 with an exhaust pipe 8. The lid 7 is held on the container 1 by means of quick-release fasteners 9. Hook-and-lever closures are provided as such.
The container 1 encloses a filter 10 (FIG. 1). This insert filter has a spiral-shaped rolled thin sheet of 0.04 to 0.07 mm thick, which is coated on both sides with adsorbents: kieselguhr, quartz and activated carbon shot. The grain size is 3 to 6 mm. These adsorbents are attached to the thin sheet with a commercially available, heat-resistant glue.
A steel wadding filter 11, which serves as a soot trap, in particular for diesel and petrol engines, can be upstream of the spiral-shaped rolled filter 10 in the direction of flow.
The container 1 is provided transversely to the muffler 6 and can be mounted on the vehicle after minor changes.
If vehicles have several exhaust systems, these can be brought together by the filters 10, 11.
After driving about 3000 km on petrol, the filters 10, 11 must be replaced if the gas detoxification apparatus is to be optimally effective. When using diesel oil or petrol, the effect of the filters 10, 11 is insufficient after a journey of 2000 km. Then the cover 7 together with the exhaust pipe 8 must be loosened in order to remove the filters 10, 11 from the container 1.
According to the tests at the TCS-Lucerne, a significant contribution to environmental protection can be made with the described gas detoxification apparatus.
