Abstract
A method of making a concertina-shaped gas or liquid filter from folded sheet, consists of gluing the longitudinal edges of the sheet on one side of it only to form the edges of the pockets when pressed together. At alternate folds the sheet is cut along the fold across the width of the adhesive coating. Used esp. for intake filters of I.C. engines or compressors. When the filter is opened out the adhesive is relieved of peeling stress by the incisions. This prevents further breakdown of the adhesive, resulting in leaks.
Description
Die vorliegende Erfindung bezieht sich auf ein Verfahren zur Herstellung eines Filterelementes für gasförmige oder flüssige Medien.
Für die Filtrierung der angesogenen Luft bei Verbrennungsmotoren oder Kompressoren werden Filterelemente benötigt, die eine zusammengefaltete und teilweise verklebte Bahn beispielsweise aus Filterpapier besitzen. Zur Erlangung der benötigten Stabilität wird das Filterpapier entlang seiner Ränder in Halteelemente aus Kunststoff oder Gummi eingegossen. Eine besonders vorteilhafte Ausführung eines derartigen Filterelementes wird erhalten, wenn aus der Filterpapierbahn Taschen gebildet werden, in die die zu filtrierende Luft eintritt und durch die Seitenwände die Tasche ver lässt. Hiezu ist es aber erforderlich, die gefaltete und verklebte Filterpapierbahn vor dem Eingiessen in die Halteelemente etwas auseinanderzuziehen, damit die Taschen offenstehen und so ein Eintreten der zu filtrierenden Luft ungehindert gestatten.
Die beiden Seitennähte jeder Tasche werden durch Kleben gebildet. Es ist leicht einzusehen, dass beim Auseinanderziehen der gefalteten Filterbahn die Gefahr besteht, dass sich diese Klebestellen zum Teil lösen, da die Beanspruchung derselben auf Zug in der ungünstigsten Richtung verläuft; es kann ein sogenanntes Abschälen stattfinden.
Es ist nun das Ziel der vorliegenden Erfindung, diesen Nachteil auszuschalten und ein Verfahren der eingangs genannten Art vorzuschlagen, bei dem eine längliche Bahn aus Filtermaterial abschnittweise und abwechselnd auf die eine und die andere Seite gefaltet wird, wonach die eine Fläche der Filtermaterialbahn entlang der beiden Längsränder mit Klebstoff versehen wird, um zur Bildung von Filtertaschen jeweils zwei benachbart liegende Abschnitte der gefalteten Filtermaterialbahn im Randbereich miteinander zu verbinden. Dieses Verfahren ist gemäss der Erfindung dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass an jeder zweiten Faltstelle die beiden Enden derselben mit je einem Einschnitt versehen werden, dessen Länge zumindest gleich der Breite der Klebfläche ist.
Im Folgenden wird ein Ausführungsbeispiel des Verfahrens unter Bezugnahme auf die beiliegenden Zeichnungen näher erläutert.
In den Zeichnungen zeigen:
Fig. 1 einen Teil einer Filterpapierbahn vor der Faltung,
Fig. 2 die Filterpapierbahn teilweise gefaltet und mit Einschnitten versehen,
Fig. 3 einen Teil eines fertig gefalteten, verklebten und auseinandergezogenen Filterkörpers, und
Fig. 4 einen Schnitt entlang der Ebene A-A in Fig. 3.
Wie aus Fig. 1 zu entnehmen ist, wird das Filterelement aus einem Stück einer länglichen Bahn 1 aus Filterpapier hergestellt. Diese wird in regelmässigen Abständen mit einem Falz 2a, 2b, 2c usw. versehen, entlang welchen sie später gefaltet werden wird. In Fig. 2 ist die teilweise gefaltete Bahn 1 dargestellt. Es ist deutlich zu sehen, dass die Faltung abwechselnd auf die eine und die andere Seite erfolgt. Jeder zweite Falz, gemäss Fig. 2 die Falze 2a, 2c, 2e, 2g usw., ist an seinen beiden Enden mit je einem Einschnitt 3 versehen.
Die gestrichelten Linien begrenzen Klebflächen 4, welche paarweise aufeinanderzuliegen bestimmt sind, nachdem sie mit Klebstoff versehen worden sind. Die Länge der Einschnitte 3 ist dabei mindestens so gross wie die Breite der Klebflächen 4, zweckmässigerweise aber etwas grösser, wie es in Fig. 2 angedeutet wurde.
In Fig. 3 ist die fertig gefaltete, verklebte und auseinandergezogene Filterbahn dargestellt. Es ist deutlich zu sehen, dass das so gebildete Filterelement Taschen 5 aufweist, deren beide Seitennähte 6 durch die Klebung entlang der Flächen 4 gebildet werden.
Durch die Pfeile in Fig. 4 ist angedeutet, dass die zu filtrierende Luft in die geöffneten Taschen eintritt. Der Austritt erfolgt durch die Seitenwände 7 der Taschen hindurch, wobei die Filtrierung erfolgt.
Damit das fertiggestellte Filterelement die erforderliche Stabilität erhält, wird es in bekannter Weise oben und unten in Halteelemente z. B. aus Kunststoff oder Gummi eingegossen.
Durch das Anbringen der Einschnitte 3 vor dem Auseinanderziehen des Filterelementes wird mit Sicherheit vermieden, dass sich die Klebstellen lösen. Die Schälwirkung, welcher eine Klebfläche am wenigsten Widerstand leisten kann, wird vollständig abgebaut und in eine Zugbeanspruchung umgewandelt, gegen welche die Klebstellen wesentlich widerstandsfähiger sind.
Damit ist erreicht, dass die Filterwirkung nicht durch Leckstellen infolge aufgerissener Klebstellen beeinträchtigt wird.
The present invention relates to a method for producing a filter element for gaseous or liquid media.
To filter the air drawn in by internal combustion engines or compressors, filter elements are required that have a folded and partially glued sheet, for example made of filter paper. To achieve the required stability, the filter paper is cast into holding elements made of plastic or rubber along its edges. A particularly advantageous embodiment of such a filter element is obtained when pockets are formed from the filter paper web into which the air to be filtered enters and leaves the pocket through the side walls. For this, however, it is necessary to pull apart the folded and glued filter paper web a little before pouring it into the holding elements so that the pockets are open and thus allow the air to be filtered to enter unhindered.
The two side seams of each pocket are made by gluing. It is easy to see that when the folded filter web is pulled apart, there is a risk that these adhesive points will loosen in part, since the tensile stress on them runs in the most unfavorable direction; so-called peeling can take place.
It is now the aim of the present invention to eliminate this disadvantage and to propose a method of the type mentioned in which an elongate web of filter material is folded in sections and alternately on one and the other side, after which one surface of the filter material web along the two Longitudinal edges are provided with adhesive in order to connect two adjacent sections of the folded filter material web in the edge region to one another to form filter pockets. According to the invention, this method is characterized in that at every second fold the two ends thereof are each provided with an incision, the length of which is at least equal to the width of the adhesive surface.
An exemplary embodiment of the method is explained in more detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings.

As can be seen from Fig. 1, the filter element is made from a piece of an elongated web 1 of filter paper. This is provided with a fold 2a, 2b, 2c etc. at regular intervals, along which it will be folded later. In Fig. 2, the partially folded web 1 is shown. It can be clearly seen that the folding takes place alternately on one side and the other. Every second fold, according to FIG. 2 the folds 2a, 2c, 2e, 2g etc., is provided with an incision 3 at each of its two ends.
The dashed lines delimit adhesive surfaces 4 which are intended to lie on top of one another in pairs after they have been provided with adhesive. The length of the incisions 3 is at least as great as the width of the adhesive surfaces 4, but expediently somewhat larger, as was indicated in FIG.
In Fig. 3 the fully folded, glued and pulled apart filter web is shown. It can be clearly seen that the filter element formed in this way has pockets 5, the two side seams 6 of which are formed by the adhesive along the surfaces 4.
The arrows in FIG. 4 indicate that the air to be filtered enters the opened pockets. The exit takes place through the side walls 7 of the pockets, the filtration taking place.
So that the finished filter element receives the required stability, it is in a known manner above and below in holding elements z. B. cast from plastic or rubber.
By making the incisions 3 before the filter element is pulled apart, the adhesive points are definitely prevented from coming loose. The peeling effect, which an adhesive surface can offer the least resistance, is completely reduced and converted into tensile stress, against which the adhesive points are significantly more resistant.
This ensures that the filter effect is not impaired by leaks as a result of torn adhesive points.
