Description
Process for manufacturing and filling capsules in heat-sealable material
and device for implementing the method
It has already been proposed to constitute capsules by forming a tube beforehand from a folded strip of heat-sealable material, said tube being filled with the product to be contained and each capsule being closed at its two ends by a welding carried out by pliers causing the flow to flow back. the product outside the weld area.
More recently, machines have been put on the market using a long tube filled with the product; these machines have the drawback of requiring the prior filling of the tube.
The object of the present invention is to remedy this drawback by allowing filling during the formation of the capsule, which allows the most varied capsule shapes.
In addition, the filling liquid remains protected from the ambient environment during the operation.
The invention comprises a method of manufacturing and filling capsules of heat-sealable material, characterized in that two layers of heat-sealable material are brought between two parts of a mold, movable relative to each other, that the 'these are brought together until they close, to the exclusion of a filling orifice, the enclosure delimited by these mold parts, which is applied to the two thicknesses of material against the inner walls of said parts , that the capsule thus formed is filled with the product it is to contain and that the adjacent parts of said thicknesses of heat-sealable material are welded together.
The invention also comprises a device for implementing this method, characterized in that it comprises a member advancing the two thicknesses of heat-sealable material, a mold in two parts, which, once tightened, define an enclosure having the shape to be given to the capsule, means making it possible to join said parts of the mold, means for applying the two thicknesses of the material against the interior walls of said parts, a nozzle for delivering the product into the capsule thus formed and means for sealing, sealingly together, the adjacent parts of the heat-sealable material.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the device which the invention comprises, and illustrates implementations of the method which also comprises the invention.
Fig. 1 schematically represents the most important elements of said embodiment of the device, in the position corresponding to the first phase (formation of a capsule).
Fig. 2 is a schematic view of the same device in the position of the 2nd phase (welding).
Fig. 3 is a plan seen from above of two mold parts.
Fig. 4 shows a neck capsule.
Figs. 5 and 6 show schematically implementations of the process for the manufacture of hemispherical capsules.
Fig. 7 is a sectional view of a capsule with two compartments.
The device shown comprises a frame 1 forming a box, coils 2 each delivering a strip 3 of heat-sealable material (one coil if a single strip is used subsequently folded longitudinally; several coils if several strips are used), means capable of to bring these bands to the point of formation of the capsule (reciprocating grippers, or roller trains such as 4), a mold in two parts 5 and 6 each comprising an indentation and a duct 5a (and 6a) communicating with a vacuum device, two electrodes 7 and 8 connected to a source of HF electric current or infrared rays, a nozzle 9 for dispensing filling product and preheating means such as ray generators infra-red 10,
a cutting device 11 and an evacuation chute 12.
The mold-electrode assembly is subjected to two movements, one horizontal, the other vertical.
For this purpose, the parts 5 and 6 of the mold slide respectively in the electrodes 7 and 8 which are each integral with a piston 13, a horizontal cylinder 14 mounted on a carriage 15 which can have vertical movements thanks to a vertical cylinder. 16, the cylinder of which is secured to the frame 1.
Stops 17 fixed to the latter cooperate with fingers 18 each integral with one of the electrodes, in order to prevent the latter from coming together completely during the first phase.
As seen in fig. 3, parts 5 and 6 of the mold comprise a small channel 20 forming a passage for the nozzle 9 of the product dispenser, during filling.
In the device shown, this nozzle 9 is fixed and it is the mold-electrode assemblies which move; but one could construct an embodiment of the device in which the parts of the mold and the electrodes would only have horizontal movements and a nozzle 9 which can be retracted by displacements in height.
In the device shown, the two bands 3 of heat-sealable material are brought between the two mobile parts 5 and 6 of the mold, the nozzle 9 being placed between these bands inside the enclosure delimited by this mold, when its two parts are brought closer to each other by the action of the jacks 14. If the vacuum is caused by sucking through the channels Sa and 6a, each strip comes to press against the internal wall of the mold. If the material is sufficiently flexible or made flexible by preheating, for example by means of the generators 10, these bands, by following the shape of this enclosure, constitute two shells inside which can be distributed, by the nozzle 9, the product. to include.
It is noted that the capsule can be filled away from ambient air, which is particularly favorable for the packaging of easily oxidizable products.
If the capsule is filled with a product under pressure, it is possible to avoid creating a vacuum inside the molds, but this way of doing things involves the need to measure very exactly the quantity of product to be included.
As the extension of the jacks 14 is done while
the carriages 15 are at the top of their travel, the fixed stops 17 meet the fingers 18 of the electrodes, which prevents the latter from coming into contact with the strips 3; a spring 21 pushes each mold part so that the edges of the latter come to bear strongly against said strips. This tightening is sufficient so that the included product cannot escape despite the absence of welding.
When the carriage 15 descends under the action of the jack 16, the jacks 14 remaining in the elongation position, the nozzle 9 exits the channel 20, the fingers 18 escape the stops 17, the electrodes 7 and 8 can approach each other and cause the solder necessary to trap the product in the capsule along the entire perimeter thereof.
The capsules can be delivered in a string or on the contrary, be separated by a cutting device 1 1 and received one by one in a chute 12.
A cutting device could be paired with the electrodes in order to obtain: welding and cutting simultaneously, for example the ends of the electrodes 7 and 8 could be sharp.
It would also be possible to envisage an electro-mold assembly in one piece.
The device includes these clamps necessary to hold the bands during the various operations.
The impressions can be of any shape and not partially cylindrical as is obtained with the methods starting from or forming a tube.
It will be noted in fig. 4 a capsule 22 with a neck 22a, facilitating the pouring.
If it is desired to form hemispherical capsules, an embodiment of the device is used in which one of the parts of the mold consists of a marble 23 (FIG. 5) which at the same time serves as an electrode.
The production of such capsules can be doubled if this marble 23 (fig. 6) constitutes at the same time one of the parts of two molds, and by using two sets of bands 3a and 3b.
If the molds are provided with an engraving constituting, for example, a mark, this will be printed on forming.
Finally, by using multiple bands, it is possible to obtain capsules with several compartments A and B Fig. 7) separated by one or more partitions 3c which may or may not be marked.
