Description

The present invention relates to an installation for the supply of cardboard containers folded flat, of an apparatus intended to work on these containers, for example an apparatus for opening and closing the receptacles.

When feeding such an apparatus with folded cardboard containers, it is advantageous, at a certain point in the feeding operation, to break the longitudinal folds of the container by opening the latter and then at least folding it. partially in the opposite direction, ie by rotating the sides of the container around the longitudinal fold lines by more than 90.1. The receptacles are then folded again in their original position before being finally brought to the apparatus for opening, filling and closing the receptacles.

After having been broken, the receptacles (if they are not prevented from doing so), by virtue of their natural elasticity, return beyond an open position towards their closed position, so that they are inclined in the favorable direction for folding. This allows rapid folding of the containers by simply passing them through converging guides.

The installation, object of the present invention, is characterized by a device for breaking the folds and for folding the containers, by a conveyor intended to receive successively partially folded containers, this conveyor being provided with spaced pushers inclined transversely towards rear with respect to the direction of its movement and intended to engage the rear face of a partially folded container, and by a pair of converging guides between which the container is fed by the conveyor to complete the folding operation .

It has been found that due to the inclination of the partially folded containers, they fold easily and correctly into the converging guides, with tilted rear pushers preventing any tendency of the containers to fold in the wrong direction.

The device for breaking the folds can advantageously be of the type described and claimed in Swiss patent N 324544.

There is shown schematically and by way of example, in the accompanying drawing, a plan view of the installation object of the invention.

Cardboard containers 1 folded flat are contained in a magazine 2 from which they are successively removed, in a known manner, by a suction cup 3 which is brought together and removed alternately from the containers by a cam and connecting rod mechanism 4, and which is also moved laterally by an eccentric 6. The suction cup 3 introduces the first container between two rollers 7 which clamp it and make it advance between the lateral guides 8 towards a push conveyor 9 whose pushers 11 each meet the edge rear of a container introduced between the guides 8 by the rollers 7.

The conveyor 9 operates continuously so as to place the successive containers 1 in front of successive sets of suction cups 12 carried by a wheel 13 rotating continuously in synchronism with the conveyor 9. The suction cups 12 work successively in an identical manner. , each gripping a container 1 on the conveyor at a point situated on one side (to the right in the drawing) of the longitudinal fold line on the corresponding face of the container, so as to allow part 16 of the container situated to protrude freely. on the other side of the fold line, the suction cup 12 and the pusher 11 moving at the same linear speed.

After setting, the wheel 13 causes the container to travel an arc of 1800 to transfer it to an intermediate conveyor 17. During this movement, one of a series of opening members 18, pivoting on the wheel 13, comes to meet the protruding part 16 to rotate it around the longitudinal fold line over an angle exceeding 900, that is to say exceeding the fully open position of the container. The opening member, moving away, allows the container to return, thanks to its natural elasticity, towards its initial flattened state, the container then having approximately the shape indicated at 20.

The said fold breaking device is fully described in the above mentioned patent and reference will be made to the latter for further details.

Thus the receptacle has, at 20, an inclination in the direction of its original flattened state and it can then be passed between converging guides 21 completing the folding operation. While the container is still hand held by the suction, a pusher 22 of the carrier 17 meets the rear face of the container so as to push the latter between the guides 21, the suction being removed just when the pusher 22 comes. meet the container. The pusher 22 is inclined at approximately the same angle as the rear face of the container at this time to ensure that the guides 21 fold the containers forward, that is to say towards their initial state.

After having been flattened in the guides 21, the containers are brought successively into the path of a final conveyor 23 by a transfer wheel 24 provided with a series of arms 26 controlled by cams coming in turn to meet the rear edge of a container to move it in an arc of a circle to meet the final conveyor 23.
