Description
Process for the production of a new condensation product. It has been found that a new condensation product is obtained if technical-grade stearic acid monohydrazide is condensed with acetone sulfonic acid and the condensation product obtained is then reduced.
The condensation of the technical stearic acid monohydrazide with the acetone sulfonic acid, which is conveniently used in the form of an alkali salt, is advantageously carried out in the heat and in the presence of a solvent such as ethyl alcohol. Sodium amalgam, which is expediently allowed to act with the addition of water, is particularly suitable for the subsequent reduction.
The sodium salt of the new condensation product thus obtained forms a light colored, water-soluble powder. Its aqueous solutions foam strongly and have excellent washing properties. It can be used as Tegtilhilfsstoff, z. B. can be used as a detergent.
Example: 44 parts of a hydrazide mixture, which from techn. Stearic acid was prepared, are dissolved in 280 parts by volume of alcohol. 84 parts of sodium acetone sulfonic acid are added to this with stirring. This is then refluxed for 4 hours, the sodium acetonsulfonic acid already dissolving after a short period of heating.
After the alcohol has been distilled off, the condensation product is obtained as a white powder which is clearly soluble in water. The aqueous solutions foam strongly and show good washing properties. When the aqueous solution is acidified with mineral acids, turbidity occurs after a short time when heated, and the foaming power disappears.
In order to obtain a product that is resistant to mineral acid even in the heat, 120 parts of distilled water are added to the alcoholic solution and 860 parts of 2% sodium amalgam are added with stirring at 40 to 50 per hour, up to a total of 1440 parts are. After neutralizing with sulfuric acid, the mercury is poured off and the alcohol is distilled off, whereupon the reduction product is obtained as a light-colored powder that is soluble in water. The aqueous solutions foam strongly and have excellent washing properties.
