Description
Device for preventing overheating of explosion engines, in particular in motor vehicles. Devices in motor vehicles that indicate engine overheating have long been known. A thermometer was installed in the radiator end screw, but it is not easily visible from the driver's seat. This thermometer indicates that the engine is beginning to overheat, but does not draw the driver's attention to this.
The subject of the present invention forms a prevention of overheating of explosion engines, in particular special in motor vehicles. The device has a thermometer under the influence of the engine heat, which, when the engine temperature rises, successively actuates a switchable signal device and a shut-off organ that controls the drive engine.
As an embodiment of the invention, a device for preventing overheating of explosion engines on an automobile is shown in the accompanying drawing.
Fig. 1 shows the parts of the device and Fig. 2 shows the circuit diagram of the device. In the line leading from the engine to the radiator, a housing with two cones arranged opposite each other is built in by means of rubber hose pieces and a thermometer T is connected in this housing so that the cooling water flows past it.
The thermometer T has three contacts, which are arranged one above the other, so that, as the mercury column rises, they are successively connected to one pole of a battery B, which is connected to a wire fused into the thermometer at the bottom. This closes three circuits one after the other. In the first circuit there is a signal lamp L that can be perceived by the driver of the vehicle, and in the second circuit there is a buzzer or electric horn S. The third circuit contains a relay R, the armature of which interrupts the connection between the ignition magnet Z and the spark plug K as soon as the relay is activated tighten the anchor.
Instead of the mercury thermometer, a metal thermometer with a contact pointer playing over contacts could also be provided; the contacts could be adjustable.
To prevent the cooling water from freezing, another contact could be melted into the thermometer, via which contact a closed-circuit relay would be switched into the circuit of the battery. If the temperature falls below a certain level, at which the risk of freezing begins, a heating element in front of or in the cooler would be switched on due to an interruption in the circuit of the closed-circuit relay, so that the cooling water temperature is kept at a constant value. A special thermometer could also be installed for the purpose described.
Instead of arranging the thermometer in a special housing, Signalvor directions and thermometer could be housed in the same room, for example in the hood ornament. Breakers could also be built into the signal circuits so that they can be switched off individually.
